First Ever Closet Grow Using a 300 Watt CFL - a Bit of Skill and a Lot of Luck!

Re: First ever closet grow using a 300 watt CFL, a bit of skill and a lot of luck!

Just power through it dube, water em good, wait 15-20 min., tip em over and bam! They're pretty resilient plants, they'll come back, you can do it! If your pots flex at all you need to work the outside a little to loosen em up. Good luck, everything gets better with practice!

Dude!! It's like you read my mind.
I've just watered them like ten minutes ago. I can tell there are air pockets in the 2 smallest ones but the biggest one looks absolutely great. Water run through the pot in the right way, no farting bubbles or shit like that. I guess when a plant farts after you've watered them that this would suggest air pockets and poor drainage right?!
I squeezed all the pots before during and after watering to try and distribute the water evenly so I hope I've done enough. I'm just worried about money and if I have enough spare if and when I need to buy things for them.
Anyway sorry about the emotional breakdown I had before, no pot makes newbiedude a quivering emo wreck.
I'm thinking of using the bags that the compost came in; is this a good idea to save me money?
Thanks a million guys for all your support it really means more than anything in the world.

Dont worry about any bubble action after you water em.....ever! You want to look at the roots and decide if you'd like to transplant. Have everything ready should you decide to do so after looking at them. When you take one out of the pot, you see it's rootbound or you just want to pot up ( transplant to a larger container ) everything is ready and the next thing the roots touch is their new home. After that just water em til it comes out the drain holes of the pot and bob's your uncle. I don't quite understand what you're asking about the used soil bags, but I repurpose anything I can.

Re: First ever closet grow using a 300 watt CFL, a bit of skill and a lot of luck!

OMFG how relieved am I!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just 2 hours after watering and my f*****g god have they grown lol

I'm such a noob, all they needed was precious H20.

Happy face all day long.

I really don't think they are root-bound because when I watered them the stems seemed to move quite a bit which suggests to me that they haven't quite "anchored in" yet.

But I'm the newbie and you lot ain't so it could still be that they are root-bound and I can't see it or it's just that I don't really have a full idea what the hell I'm doing ;)

Either way...........

THANK-YOU GUYS; YOU'RE THE BEST!

P.S. PIC TO FOLLOW :)

sounds like they're fine newbie.you can check the holes at the bottom of the pots for roots as well,if you see pretty much all roots they're probably root bound if you only see a few your good. glad you figured things out bro:)

Yeah dude, just me being a worried mother hen!
Much green love your way brother.

I ain't transplanted them dude, sorry to confuse you lol. Just gave them a right old watering ;)
I really wanna wait until they are ready to flower before I transplant. This way I can be sure they will have a strong enough root system to do the change over. If I'm forced to do it sooner, then blow me down I'll do it.
Much green love brother.

Re: First ever closet grow using a 300 watt CFL, a bit of skill and a lot of luck!

I'm just gonna randomly fire some song lyrics at you. Just seems so apt right now, I laughed when I thought of them hehe.

"We'll be singing
When we're winning
We'll be singing.

I get knocked down
But I get up again
You're never going to keep me down,
I get knocked down
But I get up again
You're never going to keep me down!"

Song title, Artist/band and year for ten points, no cheating using google ;)

Ya, I know you decided not to transplant, I just wondered what size they're in now. The way they reacted to that watering, I would say you've got a great root system now. They end up filling every container I've ever had em in, I'm a little worried my 2 gals. aren't gonna be big enough....we'll see.

Re: First ever closet grow using a 300 watt CFL, a bit of skill and a lot of luck!

I'll tell ya dube, you're gonna succeed at this, you can't miss. These folks have seen everything a weed plant could possibly do and are ready to help in any way they can. Your intuition will develop rapidly, and by the next time you'll have all this knowlege that you'll be able to apply. I tell ya, the hardest thing for me to figure out is; " is there something wrong with my plants, or do they look like this sometimes". By the next round you'll know if somethings wrong or not.

Sorry my bad :(

They are still in 2.6 gallon ones with the hard sides.

Fair enough mate you know better than me ;)

Much luck dude, hope your babes are how you need them to be.

Re: First ever closet grow using a 300 watt CFL, a bit of skill and a lot of luck!

I'll be watching yours close, they're a coupla weeks older than mine, and if I see you runnin into issues with container size I'll prepare to transplant mine. That extra space in the top of the pots is handy, when I go to 12/12 I dress the top ( Fill the pot the rest of the way up with new soil ) of the pots with new soil and the nutrients from it get to the plant. If you can grow a plant in a 2 litre soda bottle, a 2 gallon pot should suffice.

Haha, Chumbawumba, Tubthumping. I have no idea what year - but I'll guess... 2000 maybe 2001?

I used to DJ at a nightclub... not really my kind of music, but it was really popular for a bit. :)

Thank-you so much for believing in me, not had that for most of my life I'm really touched my friend. You've made me blurry eyed again.
I'm keener than ever to learn everything there is to know about these simply wonderful creatures that we are blessed to be able to enjoy for the fantastic things they do for you, I and everyone who appreciates what these fantastic plants can achieve.
