you know the lid of the bottle that is screwed on, well this either needs to have very big holes in it or take it off all together, i have soil in the top of mine and i left the lid off, most of the roots grow down and will come out of the lid, the little side holes will only have short roots, so try taking the lid off, you may have some soil come out but it wont be much as the roots will be holding it all back, then as soon as the roots come through their and hit the juice they will grow like crazy, i have very few roots coming out the side holes, but where the lid is is where most the roots are, the roots fill the hole where the lid is and its pretty solid, and the bottom part thats the res is full of roots in mine, so make suer you have either got a big hole in the lid or just remove it all together as i found it was not needed and made it easier for the root mass to get into the res

Hey bruddah! Thanx for stopping in on my journal! So to ME it looks like you topped/Fimmed each of those nodes in the photo with the red circles....I would assume that would cause you to get a couple of branches off each of those....This particular run i waited til day 21(end of the stretch) and I gave my girls a first hair cut which i also cut off any side branching.(unless its really close to the main stalk in which case i let the form one super bud. Once they are done with the stretch no more branching will occur. This next time around I might cut off side branches as i see them about 1-2 inches see how it turns out...and for your 2l DWC Hempy def take that cap off and let your roots flow through next time. I am taking clones tonight and will be attemping my 1 liter DWCH again when they are ready.

Hi mate, yeah there is actually a hole in the lid, but nothing is coming out. I think also Im not keeping the water level high enough in there. I will remove it.
Thanks mate. Ok so if I understand you correctly I should wait for a bit then cut off the main large side branches. Yep will remove the cap.

OK update time.
I took the top off the hempy as well.
Got a new filter, the one I made was going ok but still letting out some odor, and it wont cope later.
Rearranged the setup because I wanted the light going out the other side.
Plants
Tomatos are growing so fast I dont know how to handle it.
How long before I can veg those two big ones?

to me it looks like the plants are lacking in nutrients they look a light green instead of a darker green, are you giving them an nutes yet,
also with the hempie you have now took the lid off, i would leave only a small gap between the lid and the solution in the bottom, you dont want the stuff in the top bit drinking the fluid up and soaking the grow medium so you need some gap, the roots will grow quicker than you think so dont worry, if the lid was on and the soil was blocking it then id try and break the soil up a bit with a stick or something but dont loosen it to much, then withing days the roots will be growing out the lid, and as soon as they hit the nutrient solution the grow like crazy, just make sure you empty the res often and fill it back up, every 2 days because you dont want the stagnant water building up that the plant dont drink, it will take all the nutes and leave a clear liquid, so what i do is empty and fill the res up nearly to where i want it, then i put the top part on and pour the rest in through the top so it soaks the growing medium this then drains down into the res and this will help the plant a lot more, and as soon as the roots are in the solution they will grow like crazy so i wouldnt worry to much they will soon be going mad when they hit the res

Ok, I am at about 80% nute strength so Ive just given them another feed at 100% strength Canna Coco. 8ml/2.5 litres. I was thinking for while they were a bit pale.
Ive taken some photos outside the tent, 2 with flash and 2 without in a room with a standard CFL house bulb.

the picture without the flash i think tells us the most about the plants, and i got to admit, they look amazing, some very healthy plants, seems like they are loving the nutes

reply is, once the nodes begain to stagger the plant has reached it peak time to begain flower. but it all depends on what you want ,grow space and how hungry you are for her to finish. you can start to flower from the day she starts to sprout. also your plants look very nice so think about this. when you do go to flower they will stretch almost double their size. so check how much head height you have in your box. i agree, but even when you flip the lights to 12-12 it still might take a couple of weeks before the plant shows sex and actually enters the flower stage, you can go 12-12 from seed, i did it with my 2ltr dwc hempie and im getting amazing results, i recon i will get more off the hempie than i did of my plants that i vegd for 2 weeks, i just put some pics up but you will need to go back 1 page on my journal to see the plant, that was 12-12 from seed

Ok thanks fishcake, I have decided to go 12/12 on the larger ones, pics below. I think they will be smaller than they could be, but first time Im happy. Later on in my next grow I want to try lots of things, just need to figure out what, whether it be LST, large hempies, breeding my own seeds etc and I also want all the same size. Unfortunately they arent in this case but I might just start hitting the other two with 12/12 now that Ive spent all my time separating the grow space, cause Im an idiot!

Its official! 12/12 with a nice HPS 400W. Currently monitoring temps, plants are nice and close to the light.
I built a little crappy "thing" with the cfls to give the other two plants some more 24/0. They better brace themselves tho cause I might go 12/12 on their a$$es anytime!

And heres the girls(?) baking in their new 12/12 HPS, ahhh reddish orange goodnesssss.
