Barney's Farm - Mimosa X Orange Punch - DWC

Thanks Bill.

I am mixing in the cal/mag first by adding it and then putting the lids back on the 5 gallon water jugs and inverting them 2 or 3 times. Then in goes the HydroGuard using the same process and finally ph down using the same process.

No base nutes at this stage. Once it hits the res I will wait a week and then add mega crop :)

Good to know on the silicon as well!!
Silicate can cause issues with nutrients and their uptake.
In a hydro set up it needs to be added first and let the jug sit while you keep stirring.
Once it's all mixed then fill the res tank.

Lol I'm stoned. I'm replying to someone else's journal sorry✌️🤪😁😁
Actually I did the same thing here my apologies.
I was talking to 2 members at once and posted in the wrong thread.
My apologies :Namaste: :Namaste: :Namaste:

Ok so PH is still climbing:

Water looks fine though :) no foamy bubbles, just the ones I would expect to see on the surface above the airstones

And while I’m not seeing any growth she doesn’t look unhappy

I am not sure why you are using Hydrogaurd or Cal/Mag? I would just start 1/4 strength nutes.

Simple is Good!
Hydroguard to fight off any nasties, though that didn’t seem to help. Cal/mag as its RO. I will go to 1/4 strength nutes after the first week of root(s) in water.
You're worrying that the pH has risen by 2 hundredths of a point over 11 hours? How stable do you expect water to be in an open container?
Maybe I am being paranoid but it’s still climbing. At this rate by this time Saturday it’s going to be out of range and I’m going to have to flush again.

I’m hopeful that there will be a point soon in which it stabilizes.

Most folks in hydro expect their pH to vary and that's why they keep pH down (and up) on hand. I don't recall anyone dumping the res because it went from 5.6 to 6 over the course of a few days.
Fair enough! I do need to get some ph up as well probably in case I see a swing in that direction through this journey :)

Keep in mind that the reason you ph the res is so the nutrients will be in the proper range for uptake. No nutes, no reason to ph it.
The nutes will also have their own effect on ph.

As ppm’s drop I find ph will rise.
Its a common occurrence in a hydro res. :Namaste:
Most people set it low and let it rise.
Then depending on how many ppm’s are left they either adjust with ph down or mix a new batch.

Well there is cal/mag in there :) so if the ph is out of the range the cal/mag does no good, or maybe I’m not understanding, which is a very good chance :)

Either way it’s not out of range yet and I can just ph down like Master Shred said :)

And when you do have roots and nutes, keep this chart handy. Even experienced hydro growers find it helpful:

This chart is great Shred! Thank you for sharing!

Thanks Bill! Also good info!

The drift is good, it ensures all nutrients will be available to your plants.

I set my Hydro res' at 5.6, and just ph down when it gets to 6.0.

That is great news LOL. I was expecting rise. Just not that fast. I was hoping that it would be a weekly adjustment. Maybe the addition of nutes will stabilize it a little as well.

This actually makes me think of another question regarding PPM

Let’s say my RO has 10 ppm and my nute goal is 50 ppm, not real numbers just as an example. Would I add nutes until 60ppm as I want 50 of nutes on top of what ever is in my RO? Or is is just hit the ppm goal inclusive of whatever els is in the RO?

After years of using Jacks, I just add a and b, don't even check ppm's anymore. Then adjust according to what the leaves tell me. 10 ppm is miniscule, so just add 50, bringing it up to 60.

Ok here is todays update.

That res was straight funk! I got a contamination and it was a growing in that thar reservoir!!

So everything disassembled. Res and basket got a mild dawn scrub with a brand new Mr muscle, rinsed sprayed with a heavy strong dose of StarSan, left to dried my and then another spray of StarSan and left to dry again. Then it all got rinsed really well.

Air stones soaked in a StarSan solution for a good 2 hours and then rinsed really well.

Air hoses and water param probe/cable were cleaned with the previously used Mr muscle then sprayed with the StarSan solution and left to dry and then rinsed.

All of my 5 gallon water jugs were sanitized using, can you guess it, StarSan.

2 five gallon buckets all sanitized so that I had 2 clean sterile surfaces when building it all back.

All hydroton was boiled for 10 mins and then rinsed for an additional 5 mins with hot tap water.
IMG_4582.jpeg

Then went to the store got new RO and built my water again and everything is right as rain, well for now LOL.

I think I got every single thing that touched or touches this system in anyway clean and sanitized, including the pipettes that I used to measure out the ph down and hydrogaurd.

So should be more than good to go now.

Omg!

I swear after all that work, those perfectly pH’ed little brown balls better produce magic!

Lol.
