Barney's Farm - Mimosa X Orange Punch - DWC

I’m cheering for you!

It’s an interesting process to watch that’s fo sho.
Is that what it’s called, interesting? LOL maddening is more like it.

I know it can’t be this hard on the regular. Has to be funky calmag :)

Ok what am I missing here ??

PH up a point in less than 24 hours. Water is grey and smelly.

It has to be the hydroguard.

Last attempt coming soon LOL

Is there a residue on the container?
Something is making it change color and smell.
It theoretically shouldn't be the hydroguard.
Are you using any biologicals?

Water, nutes, hydroguard and that’s it.

Everything has been scrubbed now 3 times and sanitized twice.

Is it possible you missed something when sanitizing?
There has to be something causing it to go bad.
If it's not a product issue it's environmental? :Namaste:

I won’t say it is impossible that I missed something when sanitizing, but I am very methodical when it comes to that so I don’t think so.

I am leaning towards hydroguard.

I am going to clean and sanitize one last time and go with just RO and see what happens. If it stays stable then I will add nutes from there.

Of that doesn’t work this set up will meet the baseball bat LOL.

Yeah I might go that route. Everything is in the decontamination room aka the shower LOL it’s all had a good dawn scrub, a heavy rinse and is now on its first spray of star san.

I did include the humidifier this round as that’s the one other component that I could see possibly introducing nasties into the system.

I tell you I have had fresh and saltwater aquariums most of my life, brewed at least 100 batches of beer and can only remember 2 situations in all of the years in which I had a problem like this LOL.

If this ground turns on my I’m throwing in the towel. And if it turns out to be the hydro guard I have I am putting that brand on blast LOL

Doing the same thing over again will give you the same result.

I think I saw a references to Dawn? Ditch the commercial soaps because they may leave a residue. If you need to clean things that well, go with Clorox but not the "easy pour", or somesuch, which is quite dilute. Go with the industrial strength and dilute per the instructions.

Perhaps getting a different bottle of HydroGuard would be in order.

Water chillers are not cheap, granted. What's the cost of the frustration and time that you've spent on this grow?

I don't know that not having a water chiller is the issue that you're facing but "throw money at it" does have its merits.

Re. measuring pH in tiny amounts - don't. For one, pH will vary with temperature and, second, all of the charts are wrong, and there's a strong argument to let pH range vs leaving it at 6.0. Tiny changes in pH are "measurable but insignificant" and the pH meters that we use are, at best, accurate to 0.1.

Both devices were two point calibrated yesterday and the sensors are within a few inches of each other. What's the pH?

In contrast to Bugbee, Fernandez, the author of HydroBuddy and the owner of the site mentioned below who is also a co-author with Bugbee, argues that pH shouldn't be set to a value but should swing over a range. The latter approach makes sense but I would also argue that keeping it at 6.0 is probably OK, too.

The site scienceinhydroponics.com is an excellent resource. This article caught my eye.

Ok last effort.

Mild dawn scrub of the following
Reservoir in side and out
Lid inside and out
Humidifier water tank inside and out
Humidifier basin

Then it all got rinsed and scrubbed with water.

Then it all got sanitized, left to dry, sanitized again, left to dry and then rinsed really well using a clean washcloth make sure nothing was left behind.

Air stones soaked in sani water for an hour and then rinsed really well and left to run in fresh water that was changed several times.

Water judge sanitized and rinsed

All hoses and prob scrub, sanitized and rinsed.

Then in goes the RO
Followed by calmag at 5ml per gal
Left to sit for 30 mins
Then nutes to to bring EC to .5
Then 3% peroxide at 3ml per gal
Left to mix for 3 mins then ph down to 5.5 ish

This is the last effort lol

Well I made changes every step of the way trying to eliminate the cause.

At this point if it doesn’t work then there is something funky with the res that I am unable to rid

Yeah it was really very mild and then I followed up with sanitizer and physically tubing everything down. I don’t thin there is a residue left but you never know.

Yeah I get that. And I’m not worried about that. It’s the constant rise coupled with grey stinky water.

I ditched the hydroguard and went with the peroxide as several people had recommended.

Thanks to all for sticking through this with me. I’m really appreciative of all of the feedback, suggestions and for being a sounding board for all of my thoughts!!

I thought you were going to try your tap water ?

And ditch the Cal/Mag, MC has enough :yahoo:

And where's the h202 ? Give it a couple of glugs ;)

KISS 😆

Cheers
I went with tap last try and it yielded the same results so I went back with RO. I added the peroxide :) at 3ml per gallon this round.

It’s RO to keep the ec down, calmag, MegaCrop, peroxide and ph down. Ditched the hydroguard.

Geez, what happened to KISS ? 😆

If you feel you need to haul water, go for it but I doubt your tap has anything bad in in !

And I wouldn't add any Cal/Mag until they ask for it.....

But I'm going to continue watching you pull your hair out :yahoo:

Cheers

I agree with Chuckeye! ❤️

For reference, I use 1 to 2 glugs of 34% H2O2 per 5 gallons.

Hey man I don’t have that much hair to pull out LOL!!

I’ve already pretty much given in to the idea of going back to SIP and have already called the local grow shop to make sure they have ProMix HP in stock :)

And then off to Lowe’s for their blue buckets and no more of this craziness!!

Ahhh I fully missed that! I just used 3% at 3 ml per gallon. So in total it was 42ml

This cracks me up! I searched how many ml in a glug and this is what it says:

A "glug" is generally considered to be around 15-30ml (roughly 1-2 tablespoons), depending on the context and the size of the bottle being poured from;

So by that I’m still short on peroxide LOL.

I was guesstimating about 30ml (1 oz) per glug. Since 34% H2O2 is like acid, and will burn a hole through your skin quickly, I don't measure. Carefully, open and pour at a Full arms length away to avoid any eye splashes... again!
