Barney's Farm - Mimosa X Orange Punch - DWC

I believe that aerating water will raise the pH.

"Anything that increases the surface area of the air-water interface increases the rate of carbon dioxide leaving the ... water. The out gassing of CO2 causes pH to rise."
Interesting! Well guess that makes sense.

It’s now at 6.82 and temp is holding strong at 72.7, so a slight rise in temp as well.

Like I said roots haven’t made it into the res so the only thing that would change water parameters would be it’s environment, well I think this is the case ?

I will read those links you provided Shed when I get home tonight from work, 16hr day for me today 😵‍💫

Ok todays update:

She looks like she has recovered from the rough start she had.

Reservoir on the other hand is a mess LOL

I think I had way to many bubbles going on and this is what my reservoir looked like tonight when I got home:

IMG_4580.jpeg

Holy bubbles Batman! I’m not sure if it was the hydroguard or the calmag that did not like the heavy air action but something most certainly had a reaction!

Ph is now at 7.18 from 5.5 this time yesterday.

So tomorrow it is being pumped out, res washed, air stones washed and in goes new RO.

This time I will be ph’ing each 5 gallon individually and being much more cautious this time around!!!

Man after all these trips to the store you might as well just pick up an RO filter lol unless you have a water/sewer bill then it can be very costly to run.

I'm looking forward to this because even though I love doing organic growing I've always wanted to do a DWC grow lol I mean who wouldn't want to grow a giant plant with water and air hahaha science!

It’s only $12.50 for 25 gallons. If it turns out I can actually grow and like DWC I might look into an RO system.

Ok here is todays update.

That res was straight funk! I got a contamination and it was a growing in that thar reservoir!!

So everything disassembled. Res and basket got a mild dawn scrub with a brand new Mr muscle, rinsed sprayed with a heavy strong dose of StarSan, left to dried my and then another spray of StarSan and left to dry again. Then it all got rinsed really well.

Air stones soaked in a StarSan solution for a good 2 hours and then rinsed really well.

Air hoses and water param probe/cable were cleaned with the previously used Mr muscle then sprayed with the StarSan solution and left to dry and then rinsed.

All of my 5 gallon water jugs were sanitized using, can you guess it, StarSan.

2 five gallon buckets all sanitized so that I had 2 clean sterile surfaces when building it all back.

All hydroton was boiled for 10 mins and then rinsed for an additional 5 mins with hot tap water.

Then went to the store got new RO and built my water again and everything is right as rain, well for now LOL.

I think I got every single thing that touched or touches this system in anyway clean and sanitized, including the pipettes that I used to measure out the ph down and hydrogaurd.

So should be more than good to go now.

Fingers crossed it's all good to go! Have you got stock in StarSan?
It’s the new flex seal
Does hydroguard take time to build up a population big enough to protect the res?
That’s a great question, I don’t think so but not sure.

It’s all clean now though so I should be good.

Not much movement with the little girl though. No root movement and not much happening up top either..

Good morning you :)

I really love there so many methods of growing. Like I have no idea what you are needing to achieve to make this grow work for you, but I’m loving the process.
I love how many methods there are as well!!

I have no idea about this either haha I’m just kind of going with it!!!

Numbers are holding strong after a few hours. Res is climbing in temp and should land at that 72.5° - 73° it was before. Hopefully I can make it past a week LOL.

If not it’s back to SIP :)

You could come to the dark side.... organics muhahaha....

But seriously I figure a good scrubbing in those bins will help, who knows whats getting drawn out of the plastic the first time it's soaked. I got a feeling you'll be bubbling away in no time,

Also love StarSan, and also unscented oxyclean for those stuck on parts. Man I need to brew a beer soon lol.

Thats where I have used Starsan. It's been years since I brewed some beer.

No go on the organics :)

I hadn’t brewed since pre-Covid so I recently sold off all of my gear.

But yeah I treated the entire system like I was cleaning/prepping a brew.

Yes me too! It was hard to justify an 8 hour long day fully dedicated to brewing when its a 3 min drive to the local store chock full of great local stuff.

I did have fun doing it though but towards the end it became stressful as I was thinking about other stuff that I should be doing around the house…

So maybe I’m being a little sensitive to the PH rise but this is not what I was wanting to see…

IMG_4598.jpeg

I am wondering if the hydroguard or my cal/mag is bad or if one of them is having a reaction with the ph down?

Clearly though it is rising again…..

What order are you putting nutrients in?
Calmag needs to be first and mixed really well with the plain water prior to anything else.

Thanks Bill.

I am mixing in the cal/mag first by adding it and then putting the lids back on the 5 gallon water jugs and inverting them 2 or 3 times. Then in goes the HydroGuard using the same process and finally ph down using the same process.

No base nutes at this stage. Once it hits the res I will wait a week and then add mega crop :)

Good to know on the silicon as well!!
