X Marks the Spot - XLR8's Big Bang Auto Hydro Grow 2011

Your girl looks gorgeous, XLR8! :welldone:

Is that a Big Bang or a Big BAND???? I have a Big Band seed from Kannabia, so interested if it's the same.

Also, from one pic fiend to another, your avatar (and that dude's other pics) are VERY cool! :thumb:

Hi Mr. K -

It's Big Bang. I think I've seen Big Band before (seed shopping) but it's different. I'm really interested in Kannabia seeds - Matanuska Valley has grown some beauties from Kannabia. I've got a couple somewhere for a future grow. Matero Blue I think? Fell in love with it after seeing MV's POTM entry. :)

Yeah, I love those electrified plant pictures - really interesting stuff! Glad you liked 'em too. I love photography. If I could start all over, I'd probably want to pursue a career in it.

Wow X great couple of pages here! I tried to rep you for the plant def. picture you posted, gotta spread the love around still I guess, wanted to say thanks for posting that, I hope you dont mind but I'm gunna steal it and post it on my page too, along with something similar to what you did as a refresher, the whole "What strain is it?" and all that jazz, just so new readers can get a feel for whats going on without reading my whole journal. Anyway, Your BigB is looking awesome bud great job!! She really seems to like that damn bucket huh!??
Dig the new av too bud, Ive been itching to change mine for a while, I'll probably cycle through a few before I find a permenant one...Anyway bro glad to see everything is on the up n up, keep up the good work brother!!

Hiya Quix! Thanks for the (intended) rep - very cool! I hate when I can't +rep someone because I already have recently (it's happened with trying to rep you before, too). :) I guess there's a good reason for it, and I understand I think...

As far as the chart or the recap idea - glad if it helped or inspired you to do something similar. :)

Oh, and thanks a bunch for the kudos - feels really good to hear that today (kind of a tough day pain-wise for me, and I'm a bit down about it.) Thanks for helping perk me up a bit! :high-five:

WOW that's a screamer Auto Flowerer ya got going. I can only hope mine will even get close. I.'ve done acouple auto's in the past. Best ran 2+ Oz's. That one yo have going is hard to figure without a size comparison. Well my interest is peaked Xlr8. For this;

Is another Big Bang Auto. Shes in a 1.7 Gallon pot and just turned 10 days old. But you are rite once that hit that stage, 2 new sets of leaves aren't shit anyways. I hope the best with yours. I'll be curiously watching yours also. Keepem Green

Sweet! I'm definitely interested in seeing another BBA grown. I have no idea what to expect as far as the autoflower thing goes - but she sure looks healthy to me and has sure been zooming along lately. I'd be thrilled with 2+z out of an auto. She's in a 5 gallon bucket if that helps give size perspective, but I'm pretty uncertain how she'll yield too - do buds get as big on an auto?

Thanks for sharing your plant and I'll be really interested to see how she goes for you. Thanks for the kind words brother - good luck on yours too. :high-five:

Gotta agree with pretty much everything quix said buddy! Great posts on the electrified plants and plant deficiency pics! And the way your little lady looks right now speaks for herself, excellent work! :high-five:

Thanks Jango - really appreciate that man. Glad to have you a part of my grow, you've been a really nice guy to have around, and it's been fun following your grow as well - in fact I've got to go check out your grow in a few minutes. :high-five:

Well, I have a grow room update.

I ditched the Adjust a Wing. Just a bit too hot for what I wanted to do. I've purchased instead a pair of Hydrofarm Daystar AC's that will be on a dedicated 400 cfm fan (probably huge overkill, but there was a sale on the fan).

Additionally, I'm keeping the 200cfm fan/filter set-up on it's own to keep things in check.

Here's the Daystar AC:

Except, I plan on doing 2, kinda like this but without much ducting in between:

da6ac_alt3.jpg

Last night, I managed to get the fan/filter placement rearranged inside the tent, and the new fan set-up and ducted to (1) of the light/reflectors. Since I've only got the single auto going at the moment, I will probably not hook up the other reflector until after finishing the auto. No need to spend the extra electricity $$ on one little auto that's already getting 18 hours of light in flower. I probably will test it at some point to make sure it works for the tent and doesn't send temps through the roof.

The good news is that after running the one lamp/reflector several hours the ambient temperature was 73f outside the tent with the light running, and 75f inside the tent. The reflector was cool to the touch on the outside!

I feel pretty confident that I'll be in a much better spot with this new set up and temps. It's as hot and humid as it gets here right now, too. The ambient temps outside the tent would normally be 67-68f when it's not mid summer.

Damn it man I'm sorry to hear you're in pain buddy, there's nothing in the world that can put us down like pain. I wish doctors were more interested in actual cures, than "pain management and "therapy"...Sending you healing vibes my friend!!:Namaste:

Well, I tried to hate on you for all the upgrades and for getting your room just the way you want it....But I cant because I like you too much....Damn it! (That and I feel bad for you cuz yer hurtin:biglaugh:)

Kidding, but on a serious note, Now you have a mothership and an adjustawing, just taking up space. I, as a friend, will take all that useless stuff for you bro!!

I'm glad you're getting everything the way you want it bro you know that.:high-five:
Looks like it'll be a great summer for you growing-wise, hope you feel better soon bud!!:Namaste:

:thanks: Quix. Returned the adjust a wing, so I no longer have it. I'm saving the mothership as a future veg station - for now I'm probably going to borrow its ballast. :)

Things are coming together, but I'm really strapped financially because of it. Just determined to make it right at this point. :)

Pain sucks ass! Thanks again for the kind words.

Good for you xlr8 ! :)

Now we're talking. Beautiful new reflector(s). Those things will be cool with that fan! It's all working out for you now. So glad your getting it just like you wanted. This is really good news on your way to a perfect setup. :high-five:

Wish I could send you a bit of my Lucy, that would help with the pain. Hope you feel better soon. :)

Hey XL, since I solved your temp problems with my suggestions on the air cooled reflectors, can i get that mothership? muwahahahaha :)

P.S. sorry you're in pain man, i know what it's like unfortunately :goodluck:

You're gonna love those new hoods buddy! No such thing as overkill on the air flow! Ive got my 250cfm to my 600 and it works great but id like to have more for just that! So the 400cfm fan for both of your lights will be awesome and even more so for just the one! Hope the pain is feeling better today! :smokin:

:thanks: OMM! I'm really stoked and a bit broke. They are what I need, though, and I've been determined to get it right. I hate half-assing things, as I know you do as well.

Speaking of Lucy, I have some Lucy seeds that will probably be part of the next round when I get more ambitious. Right now, I'm thoroughly enjoying my "Missy" the bagseed from my last grow. She was an ugly, scraggly smelly plant that crowded my blueberry and grew some immature seeds at the end. AND, frankly, some of the best and strongest bud I've EVER smoked/vaped. Crazy, but I love this stuff! My wife and I laugh so much about how amazing it ended up being. One more thing I learned. Don't judge a book by it's cover - or a pot plant by it's site/smell. You never know! ;)

I'm experimenting with things right now, but I have a speed controller on the new fan, and I'm able to keep the one reflector (just running the one for now) right at 75f with the fan set at half speed. Still working my way down to see how much horsepower I can move down and still keep it as cool as I want. I don't foresee any issue running a second light eventually either. I'm only running 2-3 degrees warmer in the tent than out right now. I'll take it!

Truth is, I was getting pretty jealous of all your tent progress, and can't let you have all the fun! :high-five:

Yeahhh. Pain can get bent.

Well in an alternate universe, we'd all live in the same neighborhood (I'll take OMM's if this happens). In that neighborhood, we'd just share whatever we needed...

Ah Hell, what am I talking about - we'd just buy a tractor and grow a field of pot!
:morenutes::morenutes::morenutes::morenutes:

Thanks for steering me right!

Thanks buddy, I'm feeling pretty rough lately. Lot's of old and new pains, unfortunately. But, not going to let it get the best of me. I still have a great family, a great wife, my hobby and you guys -- enough to keep me smiling. :)

I made the decision that it had to be right, and I went with the lowest possible temp solution for 2 lights. No more experiments or chance taking -- just lowest temp solution possible for running both reflectors. I'm so much happier already!

Stoked and Broke eh? I can relate to that! :)
Yeah Buddy, we just have to get it right. Mine took forever but it's rolling now. Man, that's a great temperature for the ladies. I see no problems either when you get the other light in. I keep worrying about getting the lights too close to the girls. With cool air going through the reflectors, the girls can get very close to the lights without harm. So Far!

No jealousy my friend, I see us both having a good setup.

Missy sounds great. Like you said, you never know how they'll be by looking at them. Missy sand bagged on you. :adore::adore:

Took a couple of pictures of miss "big bang" today, she looks good and seems to like the new light just fine:

bba_june_21.jpg

bba_june_21b.jpg

I also measured her. She's about 22" tall, and about 30" around. A shrub! Bazillion bud sites on her, and really great symmetry. Not huge, but a pretty plant all in all. I just hope she fills out and shows some more bud-cleavage. ;)

Glad to see the ladys doing good bro, also happy you went ahead an purchased a better cooled reflector that you'll be able to control XL cant wait to see this final yield

:thanks: buddy. I should have listened to you guys to begin with - live an learn! Now, I'm smiling a bit easier. :)

It's been great having you a part of my grow, Crower - I appreciate the well wishes. :high-five:

Grow Update - Big Bang Auto - Day 58 from seed, Day 23 since HPS switch. (18/6 light cycle start to finish)

Couple of notes

  • BBA likes to drink - kind of a bummer with only the bucket for a reservoir, she depletes her nutrients/water quickly

  • She seems to be doing even better since the temps were lowered - I'm now able to keep the room in the 73-76f temperature range, and she looks a bit perkier with the temps lowered.

  • Roots still really healthy - really white and healthy looking.

  • PPM last nutrient change was 1560 (Saturday) - it's down to 1120 (Wednesday). I've topped it off with straight water a couple of times already since Saturday.

Lastly, I just now noticed some new emoticons. Gonna try them out in 3....2....1.....

:circle-of-love: = How I feel about my plants when I grow them, Also = :green_heart: or...

Of course, I love you guys too, but I'll just give you the traditional old :high-five: for now instead of all the hearts...

:bong:

Carry on!

Does anyone else see that OMM liked post #415 several times? How is that even possible me wonders?!? Must be a glitch! :) :)

A glitch! ????? :)

Are you questioning the power of OMM?

Damn, it went away when I logged in. Phooey! :smokin::smokin:
