X Marks the Spot - XLR8's Big Bang Auto Hydro Grow 2011

^^^My favorite time of the grow!!^^^ Besides day before chop that is!

Hi Quix! Yeah, I really enjoy the last 2 weeks, but this is a great time, too. It's pretty much all fun after about day 20 of bloom phase. :yummy:

Found this image and I thought I would share it as it seems like it could be a really useful tool. Enjoy!

Hi OMM - how about that Tim Thomas, Boston's goalie? Quite the game and series he's had. Luongo really looked a lot different than in the Olympics - really off his game.

I can only imagine having all that going in my living room! I'll bet that having everything inside has been quite a change - not just for the garden, but for the living situation. Has to be nice to have it all right there, though, when you want to tend to it. :morenutes:

Oh, and good luck with the MOTM contest. I got some Blue Planet nutrients as part of my prize for last month - I'm anxious to give them a try. Good timing to get them, too as I've been wanting to find an alternative to the Dutch Master line as it'd be an expensive way to go for me with the larger reservoir I'll have for the next grow with the Flo n Grow setup. Big thanks to 420 and Blue Planet nutrients - pretty cool prize and something I can really use. I made up a calculator and weekly plan for it already. :)

Hi xlr8. :yummy:
Thomas is no spring chicken either. Good for him.
I think the Vancouver fans are looking for Luongo so they can string him up! :)

Jo has the main living room to herself. I have this room to myself, so it all works out. I like having everything in this one room. Very handy.....and private...I like my alone time.

Those Blue Planet nutes are quite the prize. Hope I win them. :)

Note: That is a great picture chart of leaf deficiencies. Thanks!

Hey XL,

It's looking great, not too much more wait now :) be patient hehehe

Kind regards,

I'm for real stoked about the nutrients (thanks Blue Planet!). I was wanting to try something new after this grow, and now I've got itt. :)

I heard somebody call Luongo: "Lebrongo" -- Thought that was pretty funny!

Hey XL,

Kind regards,

I'm not patient by nature, but I've found the patience to be worth it with growing. :) I'm okay on my med supply at the moment, too, so I don't feel any pressure with the auto. Should be interesting to see how she plumps up and how well she yields.

Thought I'd summarize where we are so far with this single plant grow:

Strain - "Big Bang Automatic" by Greenhouse seeds. 'twas a freebie that I was growing out to have something going on this summer. Originally, I was going to do another auto with it, an Afghan Kush Ryder, but had an issue with the seedling pushing itself out of a rapid rooter and it didn't make it. :rip:

Here's the description of Big Bang Auto:

A very easy-to-grow autoflowering plant, with a medium size (60-100 cm) and a very good production.

It is good for indoor or outdoor, completing the flowering cycle in 6 weeks. It can be flowered indoors at 18 or 12 hours of light per day, and with "sea-of-green" it can produce up to 900 grams per square meter (under 1000 Watt of light per square meter).

Outdoors it can give up to 45 grams per plant, and can be flowered anytime of the year as long as the lowest night temperature stays above 10 degrees Celsius.

Big Bang Specific:

Chill out and relaxing high, known for its medicinal properties.

Awards: 3rd prize HTCC 2000.

Genetics: Skunk, Northern Light, El NiyD

*54 days from seed, and showed pre-flowers about 18 days ago. She's been under the HPS for about 19 days

*PPM during last res. change was 1390 - PH has been actually needing an adjustment up occassionally. I've noticed this before with heavier nutrient levels during flowering.

*Have used Dutch Master nutrients Gold series (2 part) nutrients, with DM Zone, DM Silica, DM Add .27 as supplements.

*Using custom made hydro bucket that works a bit like a DWC bucket combined with a Waterfarm. It has the waterfarm plumbing kit, and a airstone in the bucket to keep the reservoir aerated.

*Had a slow start with her at the beginning, low RH and roots a bit unhealthy. Moved her from the BCNL Mothership into my new tent, and her health picked up pretty quickly. Temps were a bit of an issue at first, but now they've stabilized (after some tweaks) to about 80-81f and she's been exploding with growth. :phew:

*Currently completely healthy and happy - has been exploding with growth, and nice white roots. Every day now there is noticeable bud growth.

*I've been putting a plastic ice pack inside the bucket each night (swapping each night). Not sure if it's helped, but not going to mess with it as she's really healthy at the moment.

*She's drinking water like crazy - I'm guessing, but maybe a quart to 1/2 gallon a day? I'm topping off every day right now with a little water. :morenutes:

Also just wanted to say thanks to everyone who has followed my grow so far - you guys rock! :theband::rocker::headbanger::tommy:

:thanks:

It's you that Rocks, xlr8.:)

I got lost...new avatar eh?

Aww shucks. Thanks buddy, that's very kind.

Yes, new avatar ---- I was high and bored!

But ---- I have to tell you about the picture if you're not familiar. It's a picture taken by photographer Robert Buelteman. Buelteman takes really interesting pictures of plants after sending electrical energy through them. If you click on my name above the avatar to go to my profile page you'll see a great picture of a cannabis plant that has been electrified and photographed. Truthfully a lot of his best photos are of plants other than cannabis, but I thought the leaf picture would make a good avatar. I really like the one on my profile page, but it didn't work as good as an avatar, I didn't think. Ah, hell with it, I think I am going to try it as an avatar because I really like it. (See what a kook I am about changing avatars?!)

Isn't this cool?:

Hi Bud. I have to admit, that is one beautiful picture. :Namaste:

If the leaves were yellow, it would look just like mine. ;)

I think about changing my avatar, but everyone recognizes it as me.

Sisco has changed his many times. :high-five:

The guy really does beautiful work. :)

Cool avatar XLr8..hopping on this train at this stop..lol Im liking the deficiency chart always good for reference but of course as growers we don't wanna see none of that ugly stuff.. I wanna add some Bubble buckets in addition to my current DWC grow, nice set up manne..;)

Your girl looks gorgeous, XLR8! :welldone:

Is that a Big Bang or a Big BAND???? I have a Big Band seed from Kannabia, so interested if it's the same.

Also, from one pic fiend to another, your avatar (and that dude's other pics) are VERY cool! :thumb:

Wow X great couple of pages here! I tried to rep you for the plant def. picture you posted, gotta spread the love around still I guess, wanted to say thanks for posting that, I hope you dont mind but I'm gunna steal it and post it on my page too, along with something similar to what you did as a refresher, the whole "What strain is it?" and all that jazz, just so new readers can get a feel for whats going on without reading my whole journal. Anyway, Your BigB is looking awesome bud great job!! She really seems to like that damn bucket huh!??
Dig the new av too bud, Ive been itching to change mine for a while, I'll probably cycle through a few before I find a permenant one...Anyway bro glad to see everything is on the up n up, keep up the good work brother!!

WOW that's a screamer Auto Flowerer ya got going. I can only hope mine will even get close. I.'ve done acouple auto's in the past. Best ran 2+ Oz's. That one yo have going is hard to figure without a size comparison. Well my interest is peaked Xlr8. For this;

Is another Big Bang Auto. Shes in a 1.7 Gallon pot and just turned 10 days old. But you are rite once that hit that stage, 2 new sets of leaves aren't shit anyways. I hope the best with yours. I'll be curiously watching yours also. Keepem Green

Thanks man! I'm glad you liked the chart - I agree, not my favorite stuff to look at, but I thought it looked like a handy reference.

I'm really liking the bubble bucket thing I've got going, but the plant has been really sucking down the water and nutrients right now, so the smallish nature of the reservoir (the bucket) makes for a little more frequent reservoir top-offs and even nutrient changes. For example, she was guzzling down so heavy that in a span of 4-5 days I had to top her off with water every day (about a quart or maybe a little more each day). Day 5 the PPM's were down to about 650, down from 1350 a few days earlier.

Right now I'm changing the nutrient solution in the bucket about every 5-6 days right now. A system with a separate larger reservoir, like the one I will be using in my next grow, should be a little less maintenance overall.

All of that said, the bucket is working spectacularly for this plant so far - and that's what it's all about really, huh? :)

:thanks: for posting and participating in my journal - let me know if I can ever provide any insights or help as far as doing a bubble bucket. I'd be glad to help if I can! :)

Oh, and I see you're fairly new to 420mag --- :welcome: brother!

Sick Avatar XL lol the lady's looking sexier by the day brother, So i decided in the next month I'm going to go ahead an start purchasing the ebb setup lots to learn about hydro but I cant wait always wanted to do it thanks for the tips XL

Cool - let me know if I can ever provide any other thoughts or insight -- (I still haven't used mine, though -- next grow)! :)

I really like hydro because of the complete control it affords you regarding what the plant gets, etc. You can correct problems pretty quickly usually, and less issues with bugs, etc. Oh, and I like how clean it is -- I'm kind of a clean freak in some ways.
