The Deep Water Culture Home

Dont know about the sponge, but only use a soft leint free towel or Qtip. Never touch the element.

I have a million of them.

FPF did you ever move a clone from coco to hydroton?

No I haven't.

But from what I've heard coco is pretty inert and shouldn't be a problem. I know that goes against a lot of the CW here, but my consultant grows in coco cups. His system may be different enough that it doesn't make much difference. But my grow partner is using a peat type plug in his hydroton and a dwc system. It's almost as though he's trying to prove al the CW wrong.

He's kind of a pain in the butt that way, but he's got some awesome buds going. We're trying to weed out the baloney and focus on what really does work. We've found excessive levels of nutes at various stages only make the nute comapnies rich. Onward and upward.

My share of the op will be production, his will be research.

How about, busier than a one legged man in an ass kicken contest

A one armed wall paper hanger

If I put it in my bubble bucket it will get in the rez. It might be better to clean them off a little put them in the hydroton and clean the rez as needed. I would hate to lose these girls by taking all the coco off and damaging the roots.

I clean my meters with some plain water and a toothbrush. You keep the ph meter in with a little liquid because if the electrodes dry out they can short out. I know this is true. I've seen me do it! The cheap models are real touchy about that. If I do have some time between grows I would keep in in some 7.01 ph test solution. It's neutral and liquid and that's all they need.

This is the TDS meter I have. I bought it from the same place as the PH meter I am about to purchase. HM DM-1 Inline Dual TDS Meter Reverse Osmosis RO DI DM1 - eBay (item 370298984978 end time Apr-28-10 14:snooze:44 PDT) Let me know if I should keep this meter or I need the better one. It seems to read ok.

I think it reads correctly. It said it came calibrated. I don't know how to calibrate it if it didn't. I had to go out today. My plants are in first week of flowering and the TDS was 1000 this afternoon. I didn't add nutes this morn so not sure why it went up. The 750 was the morning reading.

What do I want the TDS meter to read in flowering?

I put a bid in for $70 and it was excepted for the PH meter. I saw someone got it for $69.95 so why not try. If it all goes well I saved ten bucks.

How do you clean both the PH and TDS meters? Why do you keep the PH meter in a sponge?:yahoo:

That meter looks like it's set up to be part of a RO filtering system and not a portable grow checker. I'd get the HM Com-100 for TDS and the HM PH-200 for ph from the same website you are looking at that will remain nameless because they are not a sponsor.

TDS of 1000 is acceptable. It ranges on what your plant needs. I've seen and grown strains that didn't like a lot of nutes and some were nute hogs. That why there are ranges of acceptable tds readings. TDS readings in flowering are pretty much the same but you start at full dose when you switch. I switch to flower nutes on the second res change after I go 12/12. I also play around with different combos of nutes and additives but is is not advised for a new grower. I do it because I can fix anything I break.

I pulled mine out of coco, cleaned the roots off completely very carefully! I didn't use rw but the one's that look like soil but aren't? I took one of those and made a slit down the side of that! then carefully laid the plant in that with the root's hanging out! then here's where a second person comes in handy, you hold the plant in the basket and if you can very carefully try and thread some of the root's through the basket to hang out! if not keep the plant as close up to the top of the basket and lay the root's at the bottom they will find their way out, have the 2nd person helping poor the hydroton in nice an easy an carefully, then be sure to get the water pumping on the root's, mine worked out find! the trainwreak I have was one of them!

Hope that helps Bro!

Great job with that closet setup, bud. I am a believer when it comes to adding more light. Are you able to maintain the temps in there with the one? Do you think having 2 of them would generate to much heat?

Start up a journal if you haven't already! Good way for us to follow along. Welcome to the bubble-head neighborhood.

OK EVERYONE

I have read all the material you keep trying to direct me towards. I get it.

(for the record i DID NOT soak my air stone from SH i just rinsed it, even though ya i know it was a mistake IT DID SINK without soaking.) it broke with in a week anyway it seemed like junk.

They fall apart if you don't soak them like the set up instructions say.
and yes i PLAN on anchoring them!
MY ONLY question, out of CURIOUSITY is,

Is it necessary for the stones to sit on the bottom for the water pump to intake the air bubbles!

YES, BUBBPLEPONICS = the tubes send oxygen enriched water to each grow cup, using bubbley water. The bubbles flwoing intot he tubes are not 100% absolutley necesary, but that is the way we all do it.

i understand it should be done, but as of right now i have no choice but to let them float! i want to anchor them but all i am SIMPLY asking is, does the water pump INTAKE THE OXYGEN IF NOT ON THE BOTTOM OF THE RES.

It intakes the oxyegen enriched water, yes, but not the bubbles if the bubbles are way above the water pump. There is a reason to follow the instructions and procedures, YES.
Thanks to anyone who can answer that question without giving me a flippin link cuz i have studied those just as much as humanly possible the past couple of days! it does not cover THE IMPORTANCE of anchoring

If the INSTRUCTIONS with the kit or my tutorial tells you to do something, there is a reason it tells you. Striking out on your own experimenting with different procedures and trying to do it differently, or ignoring what you read will only get you heartache and NO harvest. We soak the air stones so they are pH balanced, so they don't float and so they don't break apart.

THANK YOU Testdrive!

That is a More than satisfiying answer! I appreciate the thought put into it instead of directing me to a link i have read more than 8 times...

so you read 8 times to soak the airstones and ignored it? how is that working for you?

and yeah the floating air tubes are TOTALLY temperary...my pal is bringin over about 8 inches of fishin line and 8 weights. (new not used)

but yeah i just didnt want to drown my delicate 8 day old little gals...that was where my simple curiousity came from which almost no one felt like answering. SO thanks again!

you said you read it 8 times.

Okay, here's my personal favorite:

"When you gotta eat shit, you don't nibble at it!".

Think about it, you could use that one just about every day.

My Dad has been dead 8 years and I still hear those words of wisdom from him everyday.

"successful people do what successful people do."

"if it is worth doing, it is worth doing RIGHT"

"thats as funny as a fart in a diving helmet"

"thats as funny as a crocheted rubber"

"read the book" "read the instructions"

if you don't know what to do, then do something!

if you don't know what to do, then pray!

if you don't know what to say, then keep your fool mouth shut!

"what goes around, comes around" etc, etc, etc
