My First Time: AK47 & Gold Bar Kush

You know I adore you, right? :kisstwo: Well done MrGreene. :high-five: Now you're in control.

Since I was home alone for Thanksgiving, I decided to do a different kind of cooking using the Magical Butter Machine that SweetSue sent to me. I also used some coconut oil, liquid sunflower lecithin, baking/turkey bag, cookie sheet, rubber spatula, measuring cup, digital scale, 3ml pipettes, 00 gelatin capsules, and a 00 capsule tray.

I started with 8.8 grams of cured AK47 bud. I chose that amount because it was how much was left in the first jar I picked up.

20171122_220404.jpg

I added 29.7 grams of fresh trim that was put in the freezer a few months back immediately after cutting. If we estimate that it will weigh 20% of the original weigh when dry, then it should be about 5.94 grams of trim for a total of 14.74 grams of cannabis.

20171122_220701.jpg

The cannabis went into an oven bag and was placed on the cookie sheet in the oven to decarb at 235 degrees for 110 minutes. After it was finished, the bag was put into the freezer for a while to cool and preserve the terpenes.

The coconut oil was left on top of the oven to warm up during decarb. Then 500ml was measured out, which is just a bit more than 2 cups.

The next step was to fill the Magical Butter Machine with the oil, herb, and 2 tsp of liquid sunflower lecithin. Notice that there are min and max lines in the MBM. The min line is 2 cups.

The lid was installed and it was set for 2 hours at 160 degrees.

20171123_000726.jpg

After it finished the top was removed and the sides were scraped. We don't want to leave any of the good stuff behind.

20171123_021659.jpg

The oil was poured into a bowl through the strainer that was included with the MBM. The plant material was put into a ziplock bag for use at a later time.

20171123_022643.jpg

The oil and plant material were put into the fridge for a few hours. The coconut oil turned back solid after cooling in the fridge.

The solid oil was then heated in the microwave for 30 seconds at a time until it was liquid again and then stirred.
Then it was time to start filling capsules.

As each tray of capsules was filled, the caps were put on and snapped closed.

20171123_135305.jpg

Then the tray was lifted so the finished capsules would fall out.

The result was 609 capsules ready to be put in the fridge for storage.

Of course I licked up any drips, licked the spatula, and took two pills that evening. I slept hard that night, although I remember having dreams and thoughts during the night. On Friday I only had one pill in the morning and one in the evening and still didn't have much energy. Saturday was a one pill day and it still seemed like too much. I would still get lightheaded and the floating feeling at random points during the day. Sleep has been easy while taking the pills, but getting up in the morning has been hard. I'll give it a couple days without then try maybe half a pill a day to see what happens. I weigh 146 pounds and don't have a high tolerance to cannabis, so the dose could have been stronger than needed.

Well done MrGreene. :hugs::hugs::hugs: Once you get the dose dialed in you'll begin to notice the positive effects more. All the utensil licking can skewer results, as you discovered. :laughtwo:

Great descriptive and photographic writeup, MrGreene

Thanks for sharing this.

How many pipettes failed during the filling of those capsules?

If less than 10 failed, send me a link so I can see what you got.
My larger pipettes rarely last over 50 squeezes !

Have you considered a large syringe instead? I use 4 ml pipettes, but then I make smaller batches of capsules at a time, just enough for about two weeks. I think I'd go a little nuts trying to do the whole batch of oil in one sitting. Hats off to you MrGreene.

:bravo:

I only had two fail and threw away the third when I finished. I'll send a link after work tomorrow.

I was thinking about syringes at one point while filling the capsules and thought that there wouldn't be enough control to fill them without spilling. It seems like syringes get sticky and don't operate smoothly after a few times.

I did walk away a couple times while filling all of those.

I finally took some time and put up the 20"x36" tent for the 4 Cinderella Kush. I don't plan on letting them get very big before flowering since this is just a test to see if I like it.

20171130_224558.jpg

Something did get into the tent before I moved them and chewed on a couple of leaves. I sprayed the tents with pyrethrin (naturally occurs in chrysanthemum flowers) and haven't seen any new damage for a few days.

20171130_224819.jpg

I also forgot to plug in the fan on the first night and one of them perspired like a big girl should.

The Columbian Gold have the 32" tent to themselves and now have plenty of room to spread out and grow big.

Something chewed on one of these girls also, but there hasn't been any new damage for several days.

I bet it was that big annoying house fly that was driving me nuts while I was trying to sleep. He is no longer with us.

I checked on the Columbian Gold Friday evening and decided it was time to give them some more room for roots. They both got transplanted into 3 gallon pots. I was probably late getting them into bigger pots. The roots had attached to the clay pots and were difficult to get loose. I'll pick up some fresh soil this week and get them into 10 gallon pots soon so they'll have plenty of room to stretch out. I've noticed the lower leaves looking pretty pale lately so I gave them a dose of nutes after transplanting. Today I noticed that the switch on the timer had been flipped to be on 24/7 and I switched it back to 18/6. Maybe that explains why they aren't looking so healthy and have been drinking a lot more water than I would expect. The poor girls probably weren't getting any rest.

I'm thinking to switch the cinderella kush to flower in a few days. I'm not looking for a big harvest from them. I really want to see how the smoke is, then decide if I should grow one out to be a really big girl. Are they old enough to flip yet?

Once they have alternating branches, they are old enough to flower - not quite there yet - BUT - if your flowering lights are stronger than your veg lights, you can put them under the flower lights and they will grow faster under the flower lights until they are ready to flower.

You can flip anytime you want to flip :)

I'm with Rad, stick them under stronger lighting for another week or so and then flip them. They'll grow dramatically in just a week and give you a better look at what they have to offer.

I have to say, those Columbian Golds are absolutely beautiful. :dreamy: :green_heart:

All of the girls have been in the dark for over 24 hours. The power is out and we don't know when it'll come back.

I think they're just having an extra long night so they can grow roots. Lol

Trials and tribulations. At this stage, they should come through it just fine. I had suspected males that I left in the dark away from the others for 3 days until they showed sex. The one female in the bunch showed female flowers after 3 days in the dark and she went into the flower area and grew full size without a pause. They seem pretty resilient around the time when flowering begins.

I wasn't stressed about them making it through a dark period. I couldn't remember reading anything negative about it. Leaving them in the dark for 3 days to determine sex is interesting. I think I'll go change the timer for the Cinderella Kush and see what happens.

Power is back on after 48 hours.

I've enjoyed the last few days. Been taking a couple canna caps daily, along with smoking, and have been on percocet also. Each one deals with the pain in different ways and I can tell when it's time for another dose of each. Smoking has been great for quick relief.

I noticed the girls had what appeared to be a potassium deficiency before surgery last week. I gave them some iron tone because it was convenient and seemed like it should solve the problem. Lower leaves were faded and had brown spots along the edges. The girls look much happier now. I'll take some pics and do an update in the next day or so.

Good to hear you have power back. Rest. :kisstwo:

Thanks Sue. I've been laying across the bed being lazy. I went to change the timer to 12/12 for Cinderella Kush but didn't feel smart enough to actually do it. I took another pain pill instead and I'm about to smoke some more C99.

:laughtwo: "didn't feel smart enough." You are so cute. Lol!

The past week has been busy. Surgery that left me with 11 staples, snow storm that left us without power for a couple days, and plenty of medication. I rotated between the Percocet, Canna Caps, and Smoking. It was very clear by the change in pain when each one would wear off. I'm so glad I had all three.

All the plants had just over 48 hours of darkness since the limited power I could produce here was used for a light, space heater, and fridge. They seem to have made it through just fine, although there were some strong odors coming from the tents on the first day after having light again.

I had planned to change Cinderella Kush into flower when the lights came back on, but I really couldn't seem to figure it out. Changing to 12/12 wasn't the hard part to understand, it was thinking about what time of day each 12 should be. Anyway, they are still on 18/6. They had last been watered a week ago, so I gave them 3 or 4 gallons tonight. They also had plenty of pale leaves so I gave them some iron tone as a supplement last week. They are probably due for their regular dose of fox farm nutes any time.

Columbian Gold have both grown a lot in the past week. They were showing some sort of nutrient deficiency that I thought was probably potassium. The only thing I had handy to help that was iron tone, so they got some also. They look like they are about ready for their big pots and a second swick so they won't have to share any more. They are over due for topping and clones, so I'll do that soon also. I'll keep them in veg for a few more weeks.
