That's the only one I have done a top dressing with aside from amending the additional transplant medium on both bigger plants. It's also the only one showing what looks like some nitrogen toxicity, I may have overdone it on the nutrients or top dressed it too soon. I just looked back and it was on the 18th that I top dressed and that day the plant was already showing the same leaf tips pointing down. Hmmm. Both 3 gallon pots were originally potted from the same one batch of amended coco that I made up.

I am still amazed at how different the two large ones are in almost every way. The big one looks I abuse it on a regular basis compared to the other one that stays happy and healthy no matter what lol!

Ya I'm not too sure about how the top dressing works so I can't help you too much...but feel free to ask any questions on my thread. Someone there can always help or lead you in the right direction. If it's too much N then I would just let it go for a while before adding again...but like I said I really hate saying what to do when I don't know the product.

Thanks for the help as always. It's definitely another step of the learning process. The original medium was given the nutrients at 4 tbsp/gallon. Top dressing lightly mixed into the surface of the medium and watered in is given at 2 tbsp/gallon roughly 4 weeks between top dressings.

I'm now actually looking at a better pH pen. Like a lot of new growers I picked up one of the cheap-o options when starting to buy my supplies. The PH-80 has been sitting in my cart ever since I bought this generic one and I think it's about time I get more serious about my levels. I already have some liquid pH calibration solution on the way but I'd feel a lot better about the rest of this grow and future grows with something a little more reliable. From my reading, the PH-80 seems to be a reasonable option and definitely fits my budget.

Several of us use that pen...very reliable. Just don't store in distilled water. I rinse mine in distilled then dip in the cal solution and put the cap back on. There is a sponge inside the cap. Keep that moistened with the cal fluid as well.

Good to know, I had no idea there was that much more involved compared to the cheapies. I'm all in and ordering one.

In other news I did some defoliating on the two big girls yesterday a couple days ago (I wrote this but didn't actually post it. I love how this forum saves your in progress posts). It's amazing to see how quickly they bounce back and fill in. The regrowth and happiness of these plants since potting up and defoliating for the first time has been unreal. They are literally outgrowing this 32x32 lol. I'm now stuck trying to figure out what to do next. I think it's time to flip to flower asap for the sake of space, vertically and horizontally.

The two small plants leave me wondering what to do with them. One is doing really well, just on the small side and the other has been a bit of a mutant from the get go. Part of me just wants to leave them all in there and try to get them propped up to match the canopy height of the other two and just flower away. Another part of me wants to flat out pull the mutant and run the 3. The last part of me says pull the two smaller ones, give the big gals extra room and really fill the tent with just the two.

The wife says I can get a bigger tent but for the sake of space she wants me to sell the bowflex first haha. This doesn't immediately help me since I am considering flipping to flower this weekend. The struggle is real!

A couple different leaves, so pretty

Hey JC...looking good as expected!

I'm never one for culling a plant, so I can only suggest propping them up to the canopy. It's not the first time growers have done this. Sometimes the runts give some potent smoke so see what you can do to save her.

Plants will almost double in height during stretch phase of flower so you always have to plan for that based on max light height.

Thanks!

That is what I had originally planned and measured for, doubling in height. From soil level to the top of the canopy they are 15", so with another 15" it will be close but I do have 3" of wiggle room later in the grow because the pots are sitting on gro pro elevators inside mondi super saucers. I can nix those late in the grow if I really need to and get a little height back. Ideally I'll have a bigger tent in a month but I want to make sure that I can finish out the grow in this one if need be.

I had hoped to give the two smaller plants until March 7th before flipping but the big gals have no more room to be pulled wider and are at the limit of my height setup. It's all up from here . Tomorrow we flower

This is what it all comes down to eh?

I'm waiting for lights on, it was killing me to not be able to get in there in the day today like I have been able to since starting.

With the coming stretch and first day of flower, should I be adjusting the height of my lights at all?

Awesome, I've kept the lights up high and the plants have been super happy over the last few days since changing the light schedule. I did some clone cutting on the weekend and a fairly big lower defoliation on both of the big gals.

I spent the last two days dealing with a computer hardware issue, freshly upgraded computer just died and couldn't figure out why. Turns out my backup hard drive went and died and just being connected to the mobo caused an unbelievable amount of issues. Unfortunately I didn't have a backup of my backup drive and lost 8 years of photos and files. The drive still spins and isn't making any funny noises, so I am looking into data recovery at the tune of $400+ :D. That's all kept me busy the last couple days, I'll definitely get back to posting some more photos and updates this week. Got a lot of reading to catch up on here too.

Cheers all

Hey all, sorry for abandoning this journal. Life got in the way and a bad case of the hermies...

Pistils were popping nicely 2 weeks after flipping the lights and things looked promising up until a couple weeks after that. I plucked a couple pollen sacs early on just to see what would happen but within no time the plants were just growing balls faster than I could even see. Shortly after that the bud growth almost completely stopped and all I could see were seeds forming in every single bud. I had initially intended to just complete the grow regardless of the hermie and see if I could get anything to use myself even if it had a bunch of seeds. Doesn't seem like that's going to happen. In addition to my first grow I tried my hand at cutting a bunch of clones that all survived (of course). I cannot let this awful line of genetics continue on, so I will be destroying those.

My question is now that I've come this far growing seed machines (5 weeks of actual flowering time), is there any point in letting them go the last 4 weeks to see what happens or should I just start fresh with an autoflower grow and cut my losses? :D

It depends really on you...this is from the RQS site...

"Contrary to what some say, male cannabis plants can get you high. It is not true that males don’t produce any THC. While the male plants will produce less THC in their buds as compared to their female counterparts, their flowers still contain more THC than what is found in the leaves of females.

Cannabis growers normally have good uses for the leftover sugar leaves from their female plants come harvest. Sugar leaves are great for making hash, cannabutter, and other concentrates.

You can also use your male plants for those very same purposes! Most of the resin in males is located in the sepals and those locations where pollen is produced. There is also a good amount of THC in the small leaves. No reason to toss out all this goodness!"

great journal JC. I saw 10 points on that big leave on your 2nd page, but I guess one is hiding somewhere between those big leaves. Excited to make it in flower time. I've seen and heard great things about gaia green. I've not used it yet, but its definitely in my list along with Jack :thumb:

Also, i would finish that plant up. You'll have photoperiod seeds that are male or female but at least you have good seeds
