My First Grow Journal: Bubba Kush

Huge...11 points on those?

Yes 11 points, I counted the other day because although this is my first grow.. the amount of points and size seemed wild. Does it mean anything?

This post brings me to current day (35) with a couple questions. Up until today I had not top dressed with additional dry amendments, which judging by the total grow time I am probably behind by nearly a week. I moved my lights up the last couple days after seeing the tips on newer growth (only largest plant) going light but I am now also noticing a possible deficiency in the leaves of that same plant. All of the other plants are relatively unchanged, just the big one seems to be suffering all of a sudden as shown below.

I also noticed my fan was blowing a little too directly on the canopy, something I also changed today.

Well overall they look good. It looks to me like a calmag adjustment. It's possibly showing signs of a calmag def. Top dressing I'm not going to be much help since I use FFOF with a nutrient line, so I don't want to throw out advice just for the sake of it.
Going back to pH being high, if it is, it could be locking out Ca for sure. But the plants seem fine at the way you have been going so I would just try bumping up the calmag a bit for now and see where she goes.

Thanks for the info MrSauga, the calmag does seem likely as I had barely been adding any the last few times I watered. I've now bumped to 1ml/liter and in addition to moving the lights up the largest plant seems to be responding well.

Day 36 (yesterday) - With the thought of flipping to flower in roughly 2 weeks, mostly for the sake of space and height in my tent... Do you guys think the 3 gal (3.9) fabric pots will suffice for the two larger ladies? I have a pack of what were supposed to be 7 gallon fabric pots but they barely come out to 5 total gallons (was issued a refund by the seller as they must have been mislabeled). They are almost exactly the same diameter as the current tan pots with a couple inches extra in height.

Would you stick with the current pots for the rest of the grow or should I look at purchasing some pots that are actually a little wider and deeper?

12" plant height of the two larger ones.

Nice grow JCTJ.
I currently have a bubba kush in veg right now as well. That will be part of my second grow. I got my BK seeds from Canuk seeds. Hopefully they don't hermi.
In regards to your question about transplanting into a larger pot for flower I would say yes. I have no experience with Coco but I doubt that has any influence on whether or not you should transplant. In my grow I am using a 4x4 tent with five 10 gallon pots. These pots are plenty big and I don't recommend you go that large with your particular grow specs. If I were you I would transplant the larger ones into something between 5 gallon - 7 gallon. The bigger the root, the bigger the fruit.
I have photos in my journal to give you an idea just how big 10 gallon pots look in a 4x4 if you would like a reference.
Cheers!

I'll definitely check out your thread, thanks! That was exactly my initial thinking when I first started the grow, to move up to something between 5 and 7 gallons. When I made the purchase on the 5 pack of 7 gal pots I figured it would make more sense to move up to a 7 in this brand since they run on the smaller side compared to my Gro Pro 3 gal pots. The 7 gal pots should have been roughly 6.6 gal and the 5 gal right around 5. Since my current ones are technically 3.9, the small jump to a 5 didn't make all that much sense for the effort involved, go big or go home right haha :D

I agree to uppot before you flip. Then let it recover a week. @Old Salt suggested slicing the root ball in four places around the ball with a clean razor or sharp edge(use alcohol to sterilize quickly). He may be able to explain the benefits as I can't find the post.

@MrSauga I'll have to look into that.

Day 38 brings some advancing issues on the largest plant and only that plant. The second largest is still looking perky and healthy but the big guy is definitely getting more droopy with yellowing leaves and rusty spots on some of the lower older leaves. The upper new leaves are skinny, very taco like at lights on and very droopy until later in the day.

It's droopy most likely because it's root bound. Needs to get into a bigger pot. The rust spots are calcium issues. Keep using the calmag. How much are you mixing in of the calmag?

1ml per liter of calmag, is that enough? Hope to transplant Monday, see where the plants are at health wise around March 4th and think about flipping. It should also give enough time for the little guys to catch up a bit.

One important thing I should have mentioned is that I am using dechlorinated tap water. Our water comes from an aquifer and is considered very hard water. Could this be part of the reason and possibly be locking out nutrients?

I think my bottle calls for one teaspoon per gallon (4L) light feed or two teaspoons for heavy feeding. 5ml = 1tsp, so you are just under the light feeding. I would increase that to 2ml/L for the next couple of feedings, but your PPM will go up, so you may want to watch for tip burn over the next little bit.

Tap water is fine... hard water may require more calcium which we will know soon once you bump up the dose.

Awesome, I really appreciate the help!

I'll bump up the calmag dosage and get a move on with the transplant. The new set of 7 gal pots will be here Saturday. Guess I should make sure I have enough coco :D
