Mini Green House Grow

Re: setting sun's mini-greenhouse grow

High nbk380!

I've been trying to find some grows where the girdling technique was used, but haven't been able to yet. All I have found is some discussion of it on various forums with lots of opinions, of course.

Most of what I have read on the subject mentions girdling individual branches, which seems much less risky than girdling the entire plant at the base, although if I had several plants with only two weeks to go, I might be tempted to do an entire plant to see how that goes.

LST and supercropping are techniques that are used mostly to control height, although they can also increase yield.

Girdling is only used to increase the size of fruit, and hopefully buds, but not to control height.

I'm planning on doing quite a bit of girdling in future grows and will post pics and results as I go.

thanks for the kind words and positive vibes ;)

If doing girdling to only select branches, would application of this technique in the last two weeks still apply?

Re: setting sun's mini-greenhouse grow

Hey SS - I forgot to post pics of the girdle on my sativa, but I saved the stem and will post when I get back.

I found a branch that had become severly girdled while I was pulling off all the training wires - one wire I had tight around it early on had cut the diameter in half, with certainly no ill effects on the bud above - it was one of the heavier branches.

Anyway, I'll put that up too so we can share the knowledge and figure out if it's worth the trouble.

Re girdling; if we were to duplicate that first experience, which sounded like there was a wire around the plant, and as the plant grew, the wire became more constricting, like a puppy collar on a growing dog, god forbid. So to replicate that, why not try putting the tie on a branch early in the grow?

It's an issue of balancing nutrition between tops and roots. I would think that girdling too many branches early in the grow would stunt the plant because the root system would be deprived and it would be counterproductive, but maybe a few branches would be OK.

I was hoping borntorun would comment on how his girdling went after he harvested, but I don't think he did and I forgot to ask. I think I'll shoot him a PM and see if he's about.

My gut feeling is that girdling may be a very simple and easy way to increase yield, but I think we're pioneers here as far as MJ goes.

I'm going to keep looking for grows where it's been used.

thanks for the great questions bros!

I'm very excited about the possibilities, and if it doesn't work out, I'm just out a few minutes and a few zip ties.

wanted to take a few pics of my sativa pheno before I chop her. Buds look way different than the other plants, leafier with less hairs but more trichs.

Pics are very helpful to me also. I got my example through looking at pics in other people's grows ;). I pinched off most of the lower growth right after they got damaged when I left them out during the short heat wave, so right before I brought them indoors about 8-9 weeks ago. They were all brown and crispy, as were quite a few of the upper leaves.

thanks OMM!

Setting Sun, massive looking colas bro. Gonna be some great smoke. Most excellant work, beautiful plant and great journal.

Thanks GMT, it's been a ride ;).

Can't wait to post a pic of some upside down buds, lol.

Looking good SS.

Thanks Scooby!

I appreciate the visit and encouragement!

the purple trich in the bottom right of this pic is my favorite of all time

You never know what you've captured sometimes in those macros. I didn't even notice that purple trich until I was looking at them later.

Thanks shaggy!

Look at those trichs! Gadzooks, what an amazing plant.

Thanks TB!

the other two girls seem to lean more towards indica, but should be tasty also :grinjoint:

Awesome job brother grower.....that is one sweet looking lady :yummy:

It's been fun brother, and my favorite part is comin' up! :ganjamon:

thanks for your visits and support Tunes!

Re: setting sun's mini-greenhouse grow

Plants are looking amazing, I guess it goes without saying you have done such a great job with your plants and you journal. I think anyone going threw it no matter what level of grower would learn something. Great job again. + rep
