Mini Green House Grow

Re: setting sun's mini-greenhouse grow

SS. nothing on the go now (actually just finishin some peppers that weren't even close to finished in the garden and needed a transplant..) but once she's up and running again, i will try this. if it does work, i'm gonna use it in the future.. it'd be a great booster.

thanks!

Re: setting sun's mini-greenhouse grow

It's actually the indoor sativa that is taking forever to finish... but yes, you could say there is disproportionate growth! Huge plant - I would have had 8 ounces except for my last mishap...

The trunk has pretty much grown around the wire - I'll try to post pics later on my journal.

omg, that's right, it's the monster that ate the outer banks, lol.

looking forward to the pics!

rock on OBX!

Re: setting sun's mini-greenhouse grow

DocBud, are they the lower leafs?. We get a natural age progression where the lower fan leafs start to die off. As long as the main plant is healthy and green, I think you would be fine.

I don't want to hijack SS thread....but they are the larger fan leaves, not all of them are lower on the plant. Two of them are on the main cola and are the highest two fan leaves. I was told those are actually older leaves.

I'll post pics over on my journal soon, just visit there once in a while, I don't want to use this one to talk about my crap.

Re: setting sun's mini-greenhouse grow

love the macros. man you cant argue with those pics, must be a nice harvest tool to be able to take tric pics.

looking great bro.

with this strain, the pistils and the trichs are synced very well when it comes to maturity.

You could just harvest when most of the pistils are red, and be OK, but I guess pistil color is completely unreliable in many strains.

The other thing that becomes apparent, is that each plant has its own schedule to some degree. Some are ready before others.

the 10X add-on macro lens for my camera screws on to the filter threads of the main lens and only cost $30.

I just didn't have much success using loupes or hand-held microscopes, and they don't give me the confidence level I want before I grab the garden snips.

thanks WOF!

Re: setting sun's mini-greenhouse grow

Setting Sun, I still love the idea of lazy susan in the middle of the table filled with a variety of smoke. As a side note; They are putting on a Medical cannabis cup here this Jan. Will cost us 2.5 ozs and an entry fee to enter our smoke. As a patient, MDVL can post a small fee as well and become a judge. She would have to sample all the various entries. I hope they provide respirators an cots...lol.

Oh, that sounds like fun!

2.5oz *and* an entry fee?

I don't know squat about how events like this are organized, but why do they 2.5 oz in order to judge your weed? Where all that weed be goin'? Does it all get smoked up in the judging process?

I'd be down for the judge thing! :grinjoint:

respirators, cots, and some good munchies, lol

Would love to see others try it and report their results!

It's not labor-intensive at all with small grows. It's really easy and quick, especially using zip ties. We just need to determine whether it's worth doing.

you could try it on your peppers, lol

Re: setting sun's mini-greenhouse grow

Dang Bro,
Your doing a hell of a job!
I often times take a peek at your journal, and since your just flying thru it i dont bother to leave any comments bro

but +reps for the great job

There's lots of journals I follow and visit pretty regularly, but just don't have the time to post in all of them, although I wish I did.

Thanks for the kind words and the rep ;).

Re: setting sun's mini-greenhouse grow

WOW!! I havnt checked on this grow in a minute. But now comming back the buds are AMAZING!! They have really filled out!
How much do you suppose you will get from those plants? And how do you notice the 250W lamp working out for you for only a few plants?

I'm very happy with this grow, especially after the heat stress they went through. They looked like hell back then, but they sure bounced back well.

I'm estimating around 1.5-2 oz per plant, but they still have a bit to go and they're still swelling.

The 250w is perfect for our current needs. It lights up my 32" X 32" X 64" tent very nicely and heat is easy to control. I'm using a square 22" X 22" reflector, which provides great coverage, and the tent's highly reflective walls make the most of the 250w.

I think that at lower power levels, every lumen you gain makes a difference, so I like to use a digital ballast and a higher output horticultural bulb. The small gains add up.

The 250w works for us because weed lasts us a long time we and only need to grow a few plants.

When I first got my tent, I was thinking of growing 6-8 plants in there, but cutting that in half is more realistic with 250w in a reflective environment and with a proper hood.

BTW, the addition of side-lighting in late bloom with the 42w CFL's kicks ass! I can easily raise or lower them to provide more light to the tops or the lower buds, and they are making a difference.

thanks for the questions and positive energy ;)

Re: setting sun's mini-greenhouse grow

Powerful, very trippy and euphoric, and messes up my short-term memory more than any other strain I've smoked.

You know when you walk into a room and can't remember why or what you needed?

The taste is smooth and neutral with a little pine. I have some from my first journal that's been cured for over 3 months and smokes really nice :Rasta:

Gezzz SUN

You know when you walk into a room and can't remember why or what you needed?

You mean that's not normal??

Guess that's an advantage I never thought of. We oldsters call that a Senior Moment:grinjoint:

Great, I live half high all the time.:ganjamon:
:thanks:

Setting Sun, the reason they require 2.5 ozs is that there could be as many as 100 judges/patients. It will be the first such event that we have attended, and I am looking forward to it. It will also be a chance to network with other patients and caregivers. I sure hope the entry fee covers lots of munchies!!

OldMedMan... it's definately normal. haha.

Maybe occasionally it's normal, but not like three times in five minutes, and I'm not exaggerating. It's not couchlock weed, but you might as well stay on the couch, lol.

Oh, that makes sense then.

Attending and participating in the first one in Michigan is way cool ;).

Hoping for a full report after you guys recover, lol.

Re: setting sun's mini-greenhouse grow

nice grow SS!!! the ladiez look delicious!!!!

i was wondering about this 'girdling' technique your using, since i've never seen or heard about it. have you seen anyone use it successfully? do you get any improvement by just girdling the top as opposed to doing the whole plant at the base? how does this technique hold up to other ones like 'super-cropping' and 'LST'? let me know if you don't mind, if this works, i might combine these 3 techniques along w/topping to up my yields next grow.

thanx and :goodjob: +rep

Re: setting sun's mini-greenhouse grow

High nbk380!

I've been trying to find some grows where the girdling technique was used, but haven't been able to yet. All I have found is some discussion of it on various forums with lots of opinions, of course.

Most of what I have read on the subject mentions girdling individual branches, which seems much less risky than girdling the entire plant at the base, although if I had several plants with only two weeks to go, I might be tempted to do an entire plant to see how that goes.

LST and supercropping are techniques that are used mostly to control height, although they can also increase yield.

Girdling is only used to increase the size of fruit, and hopefully buds, but not to control height.

I'm planning on doing quite a bit of girdling in future grows and will post pics and results as I go.

thanks for the kind words and positive vibes ;)
