Mini Green House Grow

Re: setting sun's mini-greenhouse grow

I inadvertently girdled my wheel plants weeks ago. lol, they are still growing fine, but i removed the tie when I realized what i was doing.

reading this just made me realize that. . . some things are falling into place here. . .

Thanks bro.

Re: setting sun's mini-greenhouse grow

Glad it helped shed some light on things in your grow.

I think OBX commented that he had an outdoor plant whose main stem was strangled by a wire, and he noticed that the growth above the wire was disproportionate.

thanks brother

TRICH CHECK DAY 49 BLOOM

IMG_3049_Medium.JPG

I set up two 42w 2700K CFL's as side lighting. These 42w CFL's are great bang for the buck and add lots of extra light.

One of the power strips is independent and the other one is switched with the lights. That makes it easy to add extra timed lights or grow accessories that I want to switch manually.

These are trichs from the most mature plant. Has lots more amber trichs than on last check and almost ready to chop. This is the one with the girdled main cola, but I may not get a chance to see if it had any effect before I chop her.

Re: setting sun's mini-greenhouse grow

so, you figure that two weeks at the most is beneficial, and more leads to premature death. less minimizes the benefits. would it be detrimental if you didn't give it the two weeks?

Re: setting sun's mini-greenhouse grow

love the macros. man you cant argue with those pics, must be a nice harvest tool to be able to take tric pics.

looking great bro.

It's actually the indoor sativa that is taking forever to finish... but yes, you could say there is disproportionate growth! Huge plant - I would have had 8 ounces except for my last mishap...

The trunk has pretty much grown around the wire - I'll try to post pics later on my journal.

Re: setting sun's mini-greenhouse grow

Very nice, love the close ups and the nice healthy plants. Great job.

Re: setting sun's mini-greenhouse grow

Beautiful pictures!

thanks! I've still got a lot to learn about photography and what my camera is capable of, so I'm hoping my pics will steadily improve.

Very nice, love the close ups and the nice healthy plants. Great job.

I went back to the post where you gave me some advice on camera settings, used shutter priority and more light, and got the clearest macros yet!

thanks bro!

Now, that's just ridiculous, even the hairs are covered in trichomes. Good looking.

thanks Tiger Balm! This strain, NL2/William's Wonder, produces sticky buds and a wonderful high :ganjamon: Can't wait to cure and smoke some!

Here's what borntorun shared on the subject:

"Yes you are wrapping wire around the stem and crimping the cambium layer so the sugars that would normally flow to the roots to keep them going instead flows to the flowers. The original Acapulco Gold was done this way. It is pretty labor intensive so not done much anymore.

here is some technical info on girdling

I did it on one of the two sweetgod plants and can definitely say it had a huge difference in final weight and density of the buds. Almost double the density. But that was two different plants, I guess the ideal test would be to girdle one branch on a plant and compare to the other branches.

I'm doing about 1/2 the plants and varying the timing to see what happens. Girdling doesn't stop the flow of nutrients and water up from the roots, only the downward transfer of carbs and hormones that feed the roots. If you do it too soon the roots will stop growing, too late and the carbs that are transferred to the buds and converted to THC won't have much impact. One thing you do notice right away is the the growth hormones that would normally flow down to the roots causes excess growth above the girdle."

If you just do certain branches instead of the main stem, the roots should survive and then you could compare colas.

If you girdle the main stem, then the timing becomes critical. Borntorun said 2 weeks before harvest would be a good time to do it.

I'm going to continue to use the small zip ties, but I'm going to get one of those zip tie pliers that help tighten them up. That should make it both easier and scarier, lol.

I dunno, this could be a very easy and simple way to increase yield. I'm going to use it to some degree on every future grow until I can prove to myself that it either works or doesn't as far as growing weed.

That it works for fruit trees and other plants is already known.

If you get any results, newsisnoise, please let us know ;)

Re: setting sun's mini-greenhouse grow

DocBud, are they the lower leafs?. We get a natural age progression where the lower fan leafs start to die off. As long as the main plant is healthy and green, I think you would be fine.

Yep, during the bloom cycle, the older fan leaves yellow and die.

I once gave my plants a hit of "grow" nutes when I saw the yellowing because I thought my plants were N deficient, but all it did was slow down the bloom.

If *all* the leaves are yellowing, it's most likely N deficiency, but if it's just the lower fan leaves, all is copacetic.

You're headed for some nice big buds doc! :ganjamon:

Re: setting sun's mini-greenhouse grow

After seeing your plants, I'd rather get together for a pot luck, heheheheh.

Setting Sun, I still love the idea of lazy susan in the middle of the table filled with a variety of smoke. As a side note; They are putting on a Medical cannabis cup here this Jan. Will cost us 2.5 ozs and an entry fee to enter our smoke. As a patient, MDVL can post a small fee as well and become a judge. She would have to sample all the various entries. I hope they provide respirators an cots...lol.
