Haystack Has Cannabisitis And He's Sour About It

Hey everyone,
For today I have a little good news and a little bad news.
The bad news is that I had a little accident the other day. I was trying to start doing a little training on the top branches and one of them broke clean off. I thought I softened it enough, but as soon as I started bending it, it just snapped. Maybe it's the strain, I'm not sure. Here is the damage. :(

The good news is that it didn;t seem to hinder the growth much and the new growth in just two days has seemed to have taken up all the open space that the broken top left behind. Hopefully once I train them tomorrow, the new tops will take it's place. But I'm going to leave it in veg for at least another week.

The roots seem to look pretty good too. They just keep getting bigger and bigger. I cranked the PPM's up to 1350 or so. Hopefully they can handle it. If not, I'll bring it back down a little bit tomorrow or the next day.

They are starting to fill up the tent, but I thought it would be fuller by now. But I'm still pretty happy about whats going on in there.

I also changed the lighting a little bit. It's been getting a little cold around here and the tent was staying in the low 70's in the middle of the night when the lights are on. So, I took out the LED light and replaced it with my other CMH light. The total wattage is now at 630 watts. Now the tent gets up to about 80 degrees. I can live with that.

Looking good Haystack. Bummer about the broken branch but she will just divert efforts elsewhere. I broke a main on my white widow that I am growing now when I was trying to quad her early on. She bounced back.

Yeah, I'm not too worried about the broken top now. It's already filled in a lot. I'll just be short four nice tops. But I'm sure the others will just be bigger than they would have been.

I'm going down to the hydro store this morning to pick up some bigger 5 gallon buckets. Then I'll flip tonight.

One more thing that I have found useful is a battery operated pump for reservoir changes and topping off. When they are small it's a not a big deal to lift them and swap buckets but when they get top heavy and tall it gets more difficult.

I use one of these. I just slide the lid over and either top off from another bucket or drain it. They are available at lowes.

I might have to get one of those. Thanks

I am telling ya baby... It's not mine... lol
"Shall we shag now or shag later?"

My wife and I randomly went to the movies on a Friday night and saw this opening weekend w/o knowing a thing about it. We were younger and maybe not so sober but we laughed our asses off for 2 hours.

I have, I think, that same pump

Thing is fantastic, especially when I used 12gal tubs

I also use it to disperse mixed nutes into gal jugs for my Hempy plants, mix 5 gal, pump pour....repeat

Great $15 for sure, mine was of Amazon

You'll need to be a little more specific Chris.
This this this

Found one of these in my storage area under the house. I don't remember what I bought it for, but I remembered I had it so I went down and got it. I'll give this a try this weekend. If it don;t work for shit, I'll get one of the electric one like some @SamSmith and @Chris Scorpio have.

Just a little update. This is the end of the first week of flower. I've seen no signs of budding yet, but there will probably be some little buds by the end of week two. I've raised the PPM's up to 1400 and all seems to be well. This weekend will be the first feeding of the flowering nutrients. I think I'm going to try to raise it up to 1600 PPM's and see what happens. If they start to show signs of overfeeding, I'll just drain some water out and add plain ph'd water to bring it down. Then in the next week of two I'm going to raise it to 1800 PPM's. We'll see what happens.

The root balls just keeps getting bigger and bigger. They are sucking up almost a gallon of water a day now.

The leaves keep growing as well. I think I'm going to do a bunch of defoliation tonight after I feed them and let them enjoy the light. The CMH lights seem to work well with the Hydro system.

And the tent is really starting to fill up now. It's gonna be time to start installing the trellis too. I'm going to make a two tier trellis this time. A lower one for the lower branches and a higher one for the taller branches. I didn't really train anything since I broke the one top off.

I also have a question for those who have grown in hydro and soil. Have you noticed that the branches seem a lot more tender in Hydro? It seems like they are a lot more water and a lot less fibrous. Maybe it's just me.

I don't grow in soil but the branches seem more robust in DWC than coco. Are you using a silica product at all? I use it all through veg and deep into flowering. It may seem thaty way due to the speed that they are growing. In hydro you can almost watch them grow.

Your roots look outstanding. You are going to have a nice yield from this grow. If you think they are drinking now wait until you get them in flower. They also drink a lot when they have a lot of foliage to support. You look to be about due for a serious trim job.

At this poin I'm not using ant silica products. But I have been looking at Rhino Skin. MAybe on the next grow. This one looks like it's doing pretty good and I currently have a lot of nutrients already. Here is what I'm using.

1.) Connoisseur Bloom A

2.) Connoisseur Bloom B

3.) Voodoo Juice

4.) Big Bud

5.) B-52

6.) Overdrive (I haven't started using it yet, but I have it.)

7.) Bud Candy

8.) Primordial Solutions Sea Green (I use this once a week between weekly feeding. I tried sticking to just using the Advanced Nutrients stuff. But I had a whole 16 oz bottle of the Sea Green and couldn't resist adding it to the mix.)

That's more nutrients than I have ever used for one grow. But it seems to be working.

Tomorrow I'll be defoliating again. Seems like I'll be doing that twice a week with hydro. The shit grows so fast. Hydro is crazy and requires a bit more attention than soil. But I think I like it.

I am a huge AN fan for coco but I switched over to GH flora series for DWC for a few reasons. Yes you use a lot of nutrients in hydro because if you don't put in the mix they don't have anything else to pull from like you do with soil growing.

I use their coco 2 part + big bud in flower with overdrive at the end. For a silica product I have been using botanicare silica blast. It mixes pretty easily. Some of the other brands of silica are hard to get to mix right. You have to put them in first and let them circulate for a bit before adding everything else. The silica does make a big difference in stem strength.

You are seeing the benefit of DWC in terms of vegetative speed. You are correct in that you have to stay on top of it a bit more than other methods in veg. They seem to settle down in flower after they stretch. I love the speed of the growth. For me vegging is my favorite part of growing in hydro.
