Subbed...better late than never! w00t! :hookah:

Sweetsue, i think it allows more root development in a smaller footprint before it is rootbound, and less stress when upcanning.

Could this tiering be done with peat pots?

Sheeple, first, welcome! :)
second, I have tiered small, starter peat pots onto larger non peat pots. I dont use them anymore.
If you do, when you upcan, you need to cut bottoms off of them and dont just sink them into the larger pot. i found even with Roots! added, it doesnt break down fast enough to allow the roots of the plant to thrive.

I can see why you settled the pots you now use. They're the perfect size and they're easy to cut the bottoms off. I'm glad you worked all that out before you enticed me DrZiggy. :laughtwo::green_heart:

The azalea pots may not need to be cut.. There are many holes, 1/4" in size or more. When I used the beer cups, and upcanned them by cutting bottoms, some roots got more damaged than I would have hoped due to the plastic. i used a box cutter and the plastic seemed to tear. The foam coffee cups worked better for me.
Without tiering, The beer cups worked great to slide entire plant out, though, and upcan the entire plant deep into the larger pot.

That's right. I recall you mentioning that you thought the holes would be large enough. Obviously they were.

I can't wait to start Zig. That month to cook the soil is going to drive me crazy!!!

Just curious...why do you use the red party cups vs peat pots to start? Just easier?

2nd- When you scored the roots at 12-3-6-9, what exactly is being accomplished? Are you actually cutting into the roots with something like an exacto blade?

lastly- did you top, fim, lst, or supercrop anything?

Thanks bro...looking good! :icon_cool

Beer cups are avaiable anywhere, and very cheap. im not, they are! The beer cups hold moisture better. i have lost a seed or 2 in the peat pots due to them drying out too fast.
Yes, used a box cutter or sharp exacto knife. Breaks up the root ball/circling. Dusted with Roots!, and good to go..
In my ACE tent, no plants were cut. i did start to pinch the stems and slightly bend them. I will post pics Tuesday of the plants.
They were pretty nice at lights out.
:)

Wow that panama is a beauty

You know...I'm liking this tiered thing and was thinking about it all day...haha. IDK if it'd work but, you could you take a party cup and cut it in half. Then slip that into a second cup (with drain holes) that acts like a sleeve, fill it with soil+seed. When it's time to upcan just slip off the second cup and the rootball is exposed (in the half-cup) and ready to be scored. You could do the same with the next can larger before they go to the cloth pot.

Also you would reuse the half pots and sleeve pots and not have to throw any away?

evening duggs..
well, Im hoping the lights, the 11/13, etc shorten them both in height and bloom time. I will definitely get the rods for the platinums and this will add 7" for the lights to be raised. I have to review those, I think on smokeys thread..get them thursday.
the tent is getting filled for sure.
I think one of the Golden Tigers is starting to get nanas...some very interesting strains will be coming out of this grow..:thumb:

...the rods help out a LOT, Ziggs!

But now I have my Plats up so much that I can barely pull the ratchets up any higher and I'm 6'2". I'm thinking that maybe before the next grow I might invest in these...have to research them a bit more, but it sure would save my back...which really needs saving...

it was your thread shrike, with the DIY rods that I was referencing...:)

I think its Govs thread that has the hanger bars :thumb:

I was thinking the same thing Duggan. How can I grow these things big enough to yield what I need since I can only grow 3 flowering plants at a time right now and yet keep them from out growing the tent in height. I'm thinking a big 3 plant scrog might do best for me, not sure how much veg time maybe a month would work good for me but its a total guess. I am going to try and run just one pure sativa to get an idea on my next round so if it doesn't yield much I still have another plant or two that I know will.

How much of a difference do you think it would be if instead of going from 11/13 right away to 3 weeks of 18/6 first and then flipping them? Im figuring the flip would happen around the same time but maybe get better veg growth rate with the extra light. I also want to top mine at least once so it would give a chance to do it before the hormones switch for sure.

Ya Shrike...i like the looks of those movers. Theys days ,they're all programable,so you could customize travel, speed, etc. If you have more than one light goin on...then they become a pain in the....!Makes it real tricky to add much up top.Just a thought Shrike. Know what ya mean about the back though...mine's hurtin at 55yrs, cuz of construction, hockey, running .just gettin wore out!Hey Shrike....you got plant trollies? Fantastic job they do...i just love em,for my back! Big pots always have to be moved ...makes it a breeze.:surf:Cheers .

Smokey, I don't know what to expect. Im in new territory here. :) There are several growers that have flipped to 11/13 instead of 12/12 after using 18/6. Doc? I am also using my lights with both switches on from seed germination to harvest instead of usual veg lights on for veg, both on for bloom..i also didn't top or fim anything, which may be a mistake with the ACE, but we will find out. I have about 4,5 out of 12 that are tall, the others are medium sized. I am pinching and bending the tall ones..i might go in and prune some of the leaves off the plants in back of the tent. Canopy is dense on some.
