DrZiggy's 2nd Journal - ACE Seeds - High Brix - LEDs

The longer I do this stuff, the more I conclude that you've got to grow a strain 4 or 5 times before you really know what you're doing with it. Sativa's really like the Cat Drench. We'll just have to figure it out? I try to grow 4 of everything at least, so I can mess with one or two if I get a bad idea late some night.

I definitely like having grown a strain/pheno a few times before. :cheesygrinsmiley: But I've been so focused on my search, that I haven't had the room to run a group at once. Now that I've found a couple mainstays though, I'm starting to consider running 3 at a time. I have that extra tent ... :slide: I have an old ugly Carnival survivor that's functioning nicely as a mother right now, so I'll probably take a bunch of cuts and run the best of 'em. As you say, I'd like to focus on a strain I know and really see what I can do with it. :cheesygrinsmiley:

I'm impressed with the way we can be so far removed from each other geographically, but post a few recent photos and offer a brief run down and we can guide each other every step along the way. I was thinking today how advantageous it was that I developed the habit of daily photo updates. It means we can be watching for a moment to, let's say do a drench, and one of you can notice something I didn't and say "Now Sue" and it's done.

I love technology. Add the generous nature of all these brilliant gardeners and this is a powerful tool for good.

"I guess we'll figure it out?"

Interesting how we all find eachother and mutually benefit and no one planned it in any way. I always marvel at such things. If only all other aspects of our lives could be so.....organic.

I went back to my journal and found the update for my S1 at about that time. Apparently, the swell came after the drench. You can also see the color starting ...

Panama Seed is comin' on strong! This strain grows buds unlike any other I've grown. They start out with teensy tiny calyxes all crammed into tiny compact buds all down the stems. Then when I drench 'em, those calyxes swell along with the new ones. It's dramatic to watch. I get a kick out of the funky twisty leaves, too. And she's starting to purple up now! I love this strain as a grower, everything else aside, it's simply a fascinating strain. I projects a sort of pent-up vigor. This would be a fun one to run over and over again - I bet it has a ton of surprises waiting to discover.

GT, Doc. Sorry. I wasnt clear enough with my question :) Im curious about feeding 1 or 2 of the 3 plants that share the same soft pots, Cat since their buds are further along than the other one. I would do this by feeding it from the smaller tiers, on top. Would it greatly effect the non Cat drenched plant too?

GT, she is beautiful! Any cured weed left? How many plants of Panama have you grown? Did you clone her?
...

Hmm.. Maybe I should try cloning some of the ACE plants. Is it too late?

Isn't that an interesting question! So, you want to free up cationic nutrients in the soil, and all three plants share the same large pot ...

I do not know. :laughtwo: It's the soil you're working on, and I would think most of the roots are in the shared pot. You'd still get the effect from the quart or so in the small pots. I bet the effect would work it's way throughout the larger pot. You might be able to manage a sort of timed release. :cheesygrinsmiley: Drench the first one and just work your way to the last?

I grew three in all - one mother, one cut, and one S1 seed. When the S1 bred true I let the strain go. I keep a jar close by and get into it once a week or so. It has a really nice piney cedar to it, and a unique high - bright but thick - kinda odd. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Do you water the top pots all the time? If not, I wouldn't do this. If so, I suppose you could try it and see what happens? It's an interesting question and I have zero experience in tiered growing.

If they're all the same strain I'd just enjoy one that was done differently and treat them all as a unit.

I have kept the tops watered/drenched; both when drenching from bottom and waiting for big softee to dry (top got a little water)

Doc, TY. Youve grown some WN with mostly or all Cat. Have you also ran any other sativa dominant strains with just straight Cat too?

Nothing with straight Cat other than Willie. I have no idea what the Colombians are going to be like, but they're starting to untwist and look like plants now. I believe the males are showing their superior vigor right out of the gate. But I want females. Perhaps I'll Cat them. I really don't know.

Pics one of these days when they get interesting.

That statement caught my attention. Is this a tell for early sexing? One of my 2 regular Tikal is definitely more vigorous than the other even though they sprouted with in hours of each other. They are a month from seed and one is on its 6th set of leaves and looks out of control compared to the other that is just starting its 5th set and looks more traditional.

It's not definitive, but usually males show more vigor and faster growth. Keep your eye on the ones that seem to grow really well.....they almost always show up as males.

Mornin Ziggs....ya that male thing eh....i've noticed the growth pattern as well over the yrs. Males do tend to grow faster and with more vigor during the first month or so.What you could do to find out for sure is wrap, or completely shade one branch for a week or so....you should see some maleness starting on that branch. Just a thought eh! Worked for me in the past pretty good but i really like fem seeds now....just no space or time to mess around sexing and stuff, that's all. Have a great day btw....cheers eh ....Duggs.
