Visualize Whirrled Peas: A Perpetual Garden By 013

Two Blue Dream hatched in rapid rooters on 3/11
transplanted into clear cups of light seedling mix and watered in 3/17
inspected and hands off / no water added 3/22
using tin foil sleeves shown in background to cover the clear cups & protect roots from light

Amnesia, Blue Dream & Pakistan Valley hatched on 3/18 in rapid rooters
transplanted into perlite hempy cups and given weak nute solution 3/19
inspected and floated for a minute with weak nutes plus calmag 3/22
These nutes turn water to a light blue green color, I guess that’s why the perlite appears stained

Well water from tap = 105 ppm

Amnesia, Blue Dream & Paki got 1st dose of MC 1G/2L 5.8 ph 400 ppm rapid rooters stain the perlite

2 Blue Dream chicks in soil got nada, it’s been 9 days since their last watering but when it’s time think I’m gonna run with bottom watering.

It’s a light potting mix and from the sides of the cup theres still moisture in the bottom. Plus now that spring has popped I’m seeing a crap load of flying pests, none in the grow yet and I’m blasting a humidifier with a dose of orange & eucalyptus oils but yeah Storm nailed it too on a little bit gun shy. I’m pretty sure the rapid rooters are not retaining much moisture

Probably the only thing keeping them alive is the humidifier.
I water my seedlings in a solo cup about 3 to 4 x a day.
2 to 4 tablespoons at a time along the outer edge of the solo cup.
Then at 7 days transplant to final pot and water daily.

Seedlings are just as sensitive if not more so to dry soil than they are too wet.
Your seedlings are what 15 days old?

They should be like 5 to 10x that size.

Here is my current grow when at 14 days.
All 3 watered pretty much everyday.
Watered small amounts several times a day in solo cups then at 7 days transplanted to 20 gallon pots and watered about 5 times a week just to keep soil moist.
Water isn't the problem, lack of oxygen is, so if your soil tilth is good with plenty of aeration then the roots should have plenty of oxygen as long as you're not drowning them.

Damn that’s a monster for so young. I’ve been reading on tilth, my old soil got compacted because I didnt have nearly enough aeration and mulch, too much sand and yep it was overwatered.

Teach me something on the ground cover and running perpetual in same bag. Do you pull out the old rootball or just cut the main stalk and let the soil reabsorb it? Do you sterilize the straw or the let beneficials take care of any pests that may ride along? I‘ve got sheets of pine bark that I planned to sterilize and add to the bag and put a few chunks on top layer

I was so freaked out about the pests that I bought this cheapie light seed starter mix and nuked the piss out of it on the gas grill to sterilize it. I guess because I’ve been hammered with pests plus have seen a shit ton of flyers lately I was or I am super paranoid about the top of the soil being wet.

I do not pull out the root ball, thats lots of good nutrients to get reabsorbed into soil.
My barley straw is just good organic barley straw never been sprayed with anything.
You can however buy old mushroom straw bags that were used commercially to grow oyster shrooms.
Those are sterilized before they grow the shrooms, you buy them used and you will usually get a few oyster mushrooms growing out of your pot you can eat plus the mycelium is good for the soil.
Either one is fine, just don't buy what they call de-seeded I think is what they call it because that's just sprayed with whatever chemical.
As far as any soil borne pest you just add Rove Beetles and predator mites and I don't think any of them have any chance of survival.
I usually cut out just the center trunk and then amend the soil with craftblend and a handful of Bokashi on top of the root hole cover with straw keep it moist and in a week or two its ready to plant again.
The worms and Bokashi make short work of it.

I don't think I'd use bark, just use barley straw with a little cover crop.

Here is my last stump I I hitched to the tractor and yanked out of the pot.
All roots were blinding white and massive.
I cut everything as close as I could to leave as much as possible in the pot.

Wow that’s a healthy mutha. I always wondered about whether you did offset planting or cut the trunk free and leave the smaller roots behind to feed the soil. I saw over at PW’s where you found some nice fungi on your back 40.

Indoor growing is funky, I’ve done veggie garden & fruit orchard, but not much in the way of container gardening. I’ve never grown weed outdoors yet either I’d love to do that and yes its on the bucket list. I have not done worms or Bokashi, I’m guessing you keep a bin going? I’m slow adopting new tech to my weed garden mainly because of the cost but I will get there soon.

My worms are in the pot delivering fresh made Unicorn Poop daily.

No I knew the worms were down under with the beetles in your soil.. but I meant do you keep a seperate bokashi bin going, you mentioned putting a handful in the hole I think
Oh, misunderstood.
Nope no Bokashi bin I just buy it to use in my pot.
Its very good for your soil.

Wow, thanks for clarifying and for the link. I thought it was adding inoculated grains to the bin and filling with table scraps. You are adding it straight to LOS at transplant
You can do that also.
Make your table scraps into nutrients.
And can make a tea out of it.
Or, I just top dress with it.
I Sprinkle a few pinches of it under my mulch every couple weeks.
Its also good to make the tea and filter it then add a little aloe vera and use as a foliar.

OMG! That is an impressive rootball!

Yes ma’am glad you saw that vid, fer sure Nunyabiz has got it going on! There’s a whole army of critters crapping, digging tunnels, killing and eating the real pests, plus their life cycle is short so tiny dead bodies are piling up which puts even more beneficials back in the soil and they work around the clock. This is where I’ve been headed for a while but the mites helped me kick it into high gear
