The Deep Water Culture Home

Sam, I am using the SH system but no more of there nutes. I used at the end of my last grow and using now biotanicare CS17. I have the grow, bloom and ripe. I am doing it by the instructions but maybe they are crappy nutes. I had huge roots last time. My roots where longer then this I think after three weeks last time. I have a good amount of them though. They ate about a 1/2 gallon of water overnight. I fixed the PH today so we will see what they eat tonight. I might change to ripe I am using the bloom now for transition.

Any suggestions?

Sam and MC,
As far as the PH meter, isn't a good one about $150? I don't want to spend that but you said you paid like 45 and don't mind replacing it. I was confused if I am right on the good ones price. Is there any such thing as a good one? I will have to get one in the next few days I would imagine. What does PH 200 mean?

Bigdeal thanks for the input as well.

Is this the same problem with cheap TDS meters?

I just don't know about the CNS17. Never heard anyone talk about it + or -.

They are eating and that's a good sign. I know my plants are loving the Advanced Nutrient 2 part Sensi nutes. Expensive suckers but if it gives me better growth then the cost is very worth it. Just part of upgrading things as I grow and learn from others.

On the PH and TDS meter, The PH 200 is the model number. I use it's companion TDS Meter - the Com-100.

They are not the absolute top of the line but they are waterproof, have temp compensation and display the res temp and either PH or TDS. $150 or less for the set has been the going price for quite some time. I did what you did and bought something cheaper the first time and it may have been the first couple of times. LOL!

hey guys question..

my air stones, air "bars" do not sit on the bottom of the resivor, they float around the irrigation hub, my question is does the water pump not get the oxygenated water if they arent on the bottom?

let me know or answer in my journal thanks

The set up instructions that come with the kit show you how to run the air tube under the water pump to hold it down.

And here is a step by step guide, showing how to weigh down the air stones along with EVERYTHING you need to know:

After sh I bought the two long blue ones from walmart in fish supply and they sink too. I have seen on this site other peoples going up not sure why. I am not sure what I did with the first airstone but it lasted whole grow. I may have tossed it instead of cleaning it since that is about the only thing that is cheap and the tubes.:grinjoint:

The airstones will float to the top if you don't presoak them as recommended.

Huh i didnt know that i honestly didnt know why they floated mine have always sank i have 4 of em but regardless the roots are goin tangle up in em huh

Those are wild!!!! I live in the middle of the military industrial complex and there are lots of jets. I've seen some crazy maneuvers!!

I used to live by an airport and thought the concord was bad twice a day. Now I live near a base and see that all the time. The jets fly so close together I don't know how they don't crash into each other. That water stuff is kewl wish I could see that up close.:bravo:

Roseman, I try to remember everything you write but it is a lot you know. I think I have a handle on it. All I can say at least mine sink one less issue to deal with.

MC and Bigdeal will buy those meters. My plants drank last night. No growth on top but looks like some growth on roots. Haven't checked PH yet.

We always talk about following the nutes suggested on the bottles or experimenting however is I don't remember seeing any suggested tds readings for different parts of the grow. Is there one in one of the tutorials. For example I just went into flowering and my reading if it is correct is around 750. I have no idea if this is right.:thanks:

That's exactly where I got my info!

My grow got found!!!

One of my housemates snuck in my room to play a prank on me when I was just outside my door talking to another housemate...I noticed the door shutting so I quickly ran into my bedroom but it was too late! He was quite surprised to say the least!! Hes grown before outdoors and smokes pot daily so he was very interested in it all.

All in all it could have been worse, if someone where to find it I'd prefer it be him. But still sucks that one more person knows, He swore up and down he wouldnt tell anyone and I gave him some incentive ( :bongrip: ) to keep his mouth shut.

So close!! A few days till cut...living with 8 people....almost made it!

How long have you had it?

Stays accurate? Do you test it regularly?

You keep the sponge/cap wet? or how do you store it?

Just curious.

Had about 15 months or 4 grows +, it stays accurate and I test it at the start of every grow (has test mode and button adjustments for no more screwdrivers needed). It's never been off by more than .2 but most of the time .1.

I lost that sponge long ago and now use a piece of kitchen sponge (blue so I can see it). I'm doing a grow most of the time so it doesn't get "stored" much. I did replace the batteries in the middle of the last grow but it has a battery low indicator and it came up fine after battery replacement ( LR44 or AG13 - button cell). I did retest but it but it was dead on. Batteries can be around $6 each if you buy from Radio Shack but they are available on-line for less than $1 each and you need 3.

MMMMM no Roseman i hate to say it, i have been reviewing the tuts for days and days. You never mention the IMPORTANCE of the stones being on the flat bottom of the Res. Mine as of right now are anchored down soley by the Hub and feed tubes, within a few days i plan on doing the fishing weights with string, BUT my concern was IF the air stones are not sitting at the bottom DOES THE WATER PUMP NOT suck as much oxygen as if the two stones were laying on the bottom? It would make sense because if the bubbles are being created above where the water pump intake is, how would it suck up air?

Thanks, and i hope you can directly answer me instead of directing me to your Tuts (that i have honestly not been able to answer my own question by reading what you wrote). (and with all respect too i might add.) :)
