Hi everyone back awake from my fog. Hope all is well just read and caught up.

Speaking of cheap items I bought a PH meter on ebay. It was from Hong Kong. I think this may have been the source of my issues in the end of the last grow that wasn't so productive.

I calibrated the meter and for about a week double checked its readings with strips. Well I am here to say I just put my new seeds into flowering and the meter is way off. I calibrated again still off. My point is cheap stuff will ruin your grow.

Question 1 - What PH meters have you found to be effective and not such a pain in the butt? Are there any that don't cost a fortune?

Question 2 - My plants look ok just a little nute deficient from the ph but the roots are still real short. My plants are 10" after a 6 weeks veg. The roots are barely in the water. Should I be worried?

Hey alien8

I found a nice cheap Ph meter I picked up at professional equipment .com
It's a Hannah and it's called "THe Checker". I think I paid 40-45 for it. It has worked very well. Keep in mind that this is my 3rd ph meter and this is my 3rd grow. It's hard to find a stable one unless you spend big bucks. This one is cheap enough that if it malfunctions, I'll just go and get another. Seems very accurate when compared to the strips and I have only had to calibrate it once. I recommend it.

To answer your 2nd question, yes that's seems to be a problem. I usually have roots hitting the water between Day 12-20 and then I can remove the water pump. 6 weeks. You should already be real close to going into the flowering stage if not already by now. I'm not too concerned about the plants being 10" tall. They will grow to 30" or so during the flowering stage. I make the assumption that you are using the Stealth Deep Water Culture system and not some larger res. But by day 42, which is around where you are now, your res should be at least 50% filled with root matter. You may want to re-look at what nutes and in what amounts you are using.

Peace

Sam.
