The Deep Water Culture Home

FPF, I used to live in Steamboat Springs for a few years. Thats where I got started cultivating. Have you ever been in those parts?

Sure, I've been to Steamboat a couple times. Beautiful area, I could see living there. The only south facing ski hill in the state. But it is pretty out of the way for me, like 3 hour drive.

Right after I bought my 325xi, I drove up, turned norh at Wollcott, I forget the highway, but one stretch just south of Steamboat I got that car up to 110, when I realized that I go off the road there I'm rocket ship, for a very short while! That was a trip.

Hi Yall, FPF How long do normally leave plants in flower?

I keep an eye on the trichs and look to harvest when the tricomes are anywhere from about 50% cloudy to 30% amber, depending on what type of high you like. I chopped the Sour Diesel a little early but I'm really enjoying it. It's not paralyzing so I still can function. Too much couch lock lately, nice to have this change up.

But each strain is different, anywhere from 7 to 10 weeks Anne even longer for some sativas.

Yep, good ol' Routt County. I also used to charge my Audi A4 turbo quattro through Wollcott and all those other small towns. Good times! :smokin:

Thanks FPF. If you happen to snip a bud off a plant while you're waiting for full maturity, you know just for a tase, do you go to hell?

You would definitely be making your own hell if that's the case! lol

Actually cutting buds befor you harvest can be a good idea to get an idea of timing and trich development. But remember, you have to fully dry and cure all of them the make a true comparison.

:rollit: Man I was thinking about a quick dry method I read about. I'm not looking to make a comparison or fill in the blanks in my grow book. I'm just looking to catch a buzz and my patience is running short. I have about three weeks left before my target harvest date is here!:rollit:

Almost ALL Indica in Hydro takes more than 8 and less than 9 weeks. Soil grows and Sativa are much much longer.

Are you kidding? I have an indoor soil grow going. I'm 4 1/2 weeks into flower. The plants are looking great. What does much longer mean?

Soil just takes longer than Hydro.
3 years ago, I started seed in soil, next to my hydro grow. 2 weeks later, my soil plants were 4 or 5 inches tall, my hydro was 12 to 14 inches tall. I tossed the soil grow out the door.

You'll have to ask a soil grower "how long?"
I don't know anything much at all about indoor soil growing..

Ask Social Smoker, he's the Deep Water Culture Soil expert.

Soil grows take longer to veg, this has to do with the roots.

In short, plants strive to keep an even canopy vs. roots ratio. You take a healthy plant, trim the roots, and veg growth will slow to a crawl while the roots grow. Take another plant, trim the veg growth, and root growth will slow to a crawl while the leaves catch up.

A fun thing to do... grow two plants outdoors. Put one in a shallow, but very WIDE 10+ gallon bucket. Put the other plant in a 10+ tall bucket (like a garbage can). The plant with the short and wide root zone will grow a short and bushy plant. The plan tin the deeper soil will grow a taller, more tree like plant.

Back to the point... in soil, during veg, the roots take longer to push through soil then they do water or air (hydro). Since the roots are less restricted in hydro, veg growth explodes and is much faster. Make sense?

Flowering is not dependent on root/veg growth. Once the plant has began it's flowering stage, that is all it focuses on. Therefore, once the plants begin to flower (hydro or soil) they take roughly the same amount of time (per strain).

There are many other factors here too, this was the simple version. In short, use a scope and keep an eye on the trichome color. As they turn cloudy, and begin turning amber, is the "harvest window". Depending on the time of high you want, determines when you harvest. The more amber the more couchlock type high. Cloudy give more a cerebral high. Try different times with different plants until you find what works best for you.

Thanks Roseman.

Mornin all! I think today might be the day i got my call back yesterday told me my piss was good now they are waiting on my background check to clear.

I'm 4+ weeks into flower. The hairs are pure white. One top is starting to get a little amber. I just want to clip one quick dry and have a little moke. At this point I wouild make a comparison to a synonym. Connoiseur vs kindasewer!

It's not the hair color, it's the trich color that determines "doneness" As far as the quick dry, if you let it out in the open it will dry quickly ( 1-2 days) and will be smokable but just barely. Expect a lot of harshness and not near the power of a good cure. Take small hits.

What strain?

From seed or clone?

The trichomes are starting to get amber? or the hairs? Trichomes being the little "crystal" looking things all over the bud. Super tiny.

I would highly suggest holding off. Waiting until it is good to go, dry and cure it properly. You'll be much happier.

That said, it's easier for someone with medicine to say that. If you need something now, maybe a small under bud on a smaller plant? How many plants do you have going? How big? Sorry Boot, not familiar with your setup.

the trich? Aren't those in the hairs? Forgive my ignorance.
