Tead's Indoor-ish, Winter, Hempy, OGK, SOG

Well Tead, i am dipping my toes into hempy. I just pulled down my current plant and took apart my buckets and bubblers and doodads and geegaws and installed two repurposed trash cans. They're 3.5 gallon and im hoping they give me some decent sized plants. I started a Girl Scout Cookie photoperiod and an LSD-25 auto on friday, both of which are just peeking their way thru the top of my starters. I was going to go buy some perlite but $ being what it is (scarce) im using coco for the top and a layer of hydroton for the reservoir.
Im a bit nervous as ive only grown dwc til now. Reassure me again how dummy proof hempy is man. Lol

I like it. I've been waiting for someone to grow in coco. I guess I'm "coco curious".
3.5 should pop off decent sized plant. You're familiar with nutes and you've been a hydro grower, so we don't have to have those discussions and introduce you to nutes. I think that may be 3/4 of the challenge. It's a funny thing. Soil growers are usually challenged by the nute regime... mixing, ph, etc. Hydro growers need to back off and relax some... I rarely even use my PH pen anymore and tho I adjust (1/8tsp phdown), I'm testing out the idea of using plain tap water in my Osmocote+ buckets.

As a dwc grower, I'm pretty certain you'll fall right into it. Try not to obsess too much over the nutes and ph. One tip I try to pass out to hydro growers... I've never been able to get any useful data from testing hempy runoff. I've seen many do it and I've tried many times myself, but never seen it help anyone.

You should have seen how I fought with it the first plant. Lol!

Indeed.
Tead plants an idea, sits back and watches the various struggles while trying to lend some useful words.
Fun stuff! You did pretty well thru the flailing. You were more like a hydro grower tho... kind of obsessed with the nutes some.

The new nutrients I'm using made it easy to let go of that obsession. I'm much more relaxed about it now. Not having to pH is such a relief. When my flowering girls get harvested I won't need pHDown anymore. :battingeyelashes:

Did the lake in your backyard subside at last?

Shiggity and Graytail have me looking at the 304 boards. They have separate drivers for them. Shiggity is planning on putting his drivers up a floor from his flower room. I'm planning on putting mine on the panels, but I don't think the heat should be very bad for me. I'm thinking an upright a/c unit should keep it cool enough.

There aren't plans to run water yet, but there may be down the road. The spousal unit and myself have discussed putting an apartment next to the grow area, which would entail a large water tank and a pump to run a sink and use a composting toilet to get a bathroom there. Hooking into the well and septic wouldn't be very practical unfortunately.

Yes, legalization 'should' make things much easier. We'll see. I don't have faith in our 'for profit' government to do the right thing. Sociopathic greed has taken over in the name of bigger and bigger profits while they disregard the will of the people. The corporations have taken the place of citizens in the eyes of government officials and we're all f**ked.

I've been chatting and watching Shigs and GT. I like the remote driver setup. Hell, I'm considering pulling the drivers out of a smaller UFO unit and adding some wires as a test. I've been thinking of putting the 304 boards inside a cooltube. Lots of ideas.... but I seem to be too lazy or cheap to implement any of them.

An apartment next to your grow area.... you'd need the right tenant and ya gotta be careful not to rattle their cage too much... don't need them dropping a dime on you.

And don't get me started about the fucked up dances states are doing around the implementation of legal weed. It's gonna role out really screwed up in a lot of places. My neck of the woods enacted medical a year or two ago with ALL growing being run by the state run colleges. As it rolls along, it just keeps getting crazier which tells me that pockets are being lined. In the end, it's all about the all mighty dollar. I really like the ideas of capitalism when it comes to most things, but medical care should never be handled by a system designed to be run by profit. It's just a poor idea to mix money and healthcare together. I don't know how we ended up with money driving our medical systems. Really pissin me off.

My electrical experience is all indoors. For my grow areas, I try to size 1/2 to 3/4 the capacity on Romex.

For the 1500 watts in my flower area (2x 600W HPS + extras) I run 12 guage wire and 20 AMP breakers - that's a theoretical 2200W as opposed to 14 guage and 15 amp breakers of 1750 watts.1500W is too close to 1750W for safety. Adding a heater or a veg area is a second circuit, so I run another 20 amp/12 guage line. (I use 110v x Amps for the math.)

- - -

For my way of thinking, 3000W equally divided is a pair of 12 guage Romex with 20 amp breakers (2 x 700W buffer.)
If you never need to expand power use, it could be a single 10 guage with 30 amp circuit (1 x 300W buffer.)
Personally, I prefer more buffer capacity.

BTW: 10 guage is really thick stuff, even 12 guage is awkward to fit into an outlet box.

Certain temperature ratings on the sheathing of the conductor allow a bigger amperage over a smaller wire (NEC table 310.16), and many electricians would say I am undersizing the circuit if I go up to 3/4 of rated load, but I have digital ballasts that reduce surge, and I don't run my subwoofer at full power, and it turns out I'm at 2/3 of rated load - so I don't worry about it.

I don't know anything about buried wire and what is code legal or advisable.

I think I've settled a little bit on an answer. I'm gonna pick up a roll of 10g and run it between the shed and the house connecting it to an existing circuit in the house and a gfi/grounded outlet box in the shed. I'm gonna run it raised thru conduit along a fence line.

Still stirring that gumbo pot some. Not sure of everything yet.

The apartment right now is for the brother in law, who has currently taken over our living room. The thought down the road is that there will be a place for our kids to stay if they need a place to chill for a bit. And the fun idea with it once legalization happens. A BNB crossed with growing. Come stay at our bed and breakfast and learn how to grow your own medicine. 😁

Capitalism has its benefits, but the pressure that many companies are putting on their employees in an effort to maximize profits year over year, is starting to break the system. There's only so much blood you can squeeze out of a stone. We're moving towards the olden days of lords and serfdom. There's going to be a revolution if things continue and it's not necessarily going to be a peaceful one.

Looks like most of the city is under water.....:nomo: stay on your porch.....

The floor of my house is about 4' from the ground, so I'll need more than a few inches.
Most of our houses are raised. It works for both flooding and heat issues.
I do wish I had a kayak tho... I'd sure go for a cruise down a few of the lower NO streets. I saw a shot of a dude pulled up to the Bayou Beer Garden in his kayak with a beer in his hand... Tead would surely need a drink if he were roaming the streets in a kayak.

I did pepper the backyard with some bricks so I could get to the shed. There are still a few inches back there. The pumps can do 1/2inch per hour, so they'll catch up eventually.

Personally, I'm more bothered by a gutter that seems to be failing some under the flow.... like a damn waterfall down the side of my house. When the weather clears I'll have to jump up there and fix it.

Tead shares your dream hard here. Come... sleep with the plants!

Indeed. Sharpening my sickle as I speak.

Dude,,, I don't do alot of reading but shit,,, you guys are getting pissed on pretty bad... Hopefully, no one is getting hammered up river from ya'll. I know when I lived in Southern Ill, we spent abit of time watching the 'high waater' line on the walls they built on the Miss. River. You know what was funny?? Getting a inch or two of rain in Carlsbad N.M. Or Roswell.. Dude that is flood stage. A inch of rain you'll find water spewing 10' in the air outta a man hole cover. They don't deal with alot of rain,,, and all the soil around there is Caliche. You can't dig more than 4" without dynamite or aleast you can stratch it with a pick.... Any rain that falls this soil acts like asphalt and doesn't let any water pentrate it and it all runs into these arroyo's and then them suckers really flash flood. These floods,, the water will come up 5 foot in 5 minutes. I don't swear that time frame,,, but I've seen this shit flood and wreck the whole town for a day after 2 inches of rain..
GL down there,, and hope the yankess up threw stop pissing in the river....... Hope you still got a shed,,, not a redneck house boat..

BTW extension cords and lakes do NOT do well together ... Keepem Green

OH! Pontoons under my shed! What an awesome idea. The next rain, I could just head down the street to the bayou and pass out joints as I go. Damn.... gonna need a big ass battery.

Desert lands tend to gather the flows and send them downhill quick. We're swamp, so it all just sinks in until the ground is saturated and then we swim as the pumps catch up.
This was a significant rainstorm. Not one of note, just a slow moving one that dumped on us for about 8hrs. We know the dance. At least this didn't have the wind associated with a trop storm or hurricane.

Yep I'd grab some UF #10 and run that...... loose those drop cords...:thumb: Ole Rooster out early with a few of you other early Birds..:peace:

Yup... I'm really thinkin I've been killin myself with cords over the years.
I put the 1000w light on it's own extension cord yesterday. Even tho it's cranked down to 600w (60%), the cord is still warm. Meanwhile, the 12g cord running the entire rest of the garden including the AC is cold.

Yup... 10g romex will be the next electrical improvement.

I'd sure be looking for something water proof off the ground, And code junction boxes. Just for the sake of these floods, and the use the best you can... Or you'll be replacing it. I thought my timer was fried when I had problems. I found that cool ass controller box with a built in timer.. Sounds cool,, till I seen I went as cheap as I could and I didn't have that extra wire to work with for the timer, which was a 110 wire All I have is 3 wires in that wire I have upstairs, This to me was another of the most common mistakes a newbie will make... I think I'll get that 400 watt light for my 5X5 tent. I knew I should've gotten the 600..$%^&*()(*&$%^&* If I ever run new wire thru the attic again I'm getting whatever the total best wire and the most leads. Hell, you could do alot if you have the space on the fuse rails, and you're not maxing all your juice. I want just one more slot... Be careful wading around that water with them extension cords,,, or we might be seeing you sporting a big ass afro???????? Keepem Green

Issues, issues, issues.... neverending.
The circuit box is totally full... not even room for a 1/2 size breaker. The current idea for the breaker box is to run a jumper to a 2nd breaker box. Gotta run that one past my electrician tho and get him to do the tricky bits. Tead can mount the box, but prefers to let the pros deal with the wires.

I'd love to run it underground. This is possible. There are some major tree roots in the way, but I think I can route around them. If not underground all the way, I could run it along a fence line inside exterior grade conduit with a hump in the middle and drains on both ends.

This all smacks of work tho.... hmmmmm.

110 or 220? Go rent a ditch witch. Get it on a Friday for the whole weekend!

I run all remote drivers using 18g two conductor security cable

Well... I could do 220 on one set of lights... but that's about it.... so no, probably not.

Welcome along AL.
Awesome! I was worried about the length of a run when you remote them outside the shed.

Garden shots....

Wow, those tall pipes look like they'd be a bit tipsy. Do they stay stable from the water in the rez?
