Second Outdoor Desert Autoflower In Arizona

Sunday update:
Forecast high today is 80° F, low is 56° F
Humidity our standard 10%

Hard to get good pics today, as it is fairly windy. So any plants you see that look like they are drooping, they are not it’s just the wind blowing them. I waited in between wind gusts to take the pics but the wind never completely died down.

Fertilized the seedlings today. Took them out of the inner solo cups so I could water and let them drain, and completely forgot that I had the labels on the outside solo cups, doh! Luckily I had already taken the garden pic so I was able to zoom in and match up plants to their correct cup. Added tags so that won’t happen again.

Thinking I will put Durban Poison in Sunshine mix with GH nutes as it’s been working for me great so far for the autos. So gave her 1.0 ml each of the GH trio mixed in 1/2 gal water. (Fertilized my veggies with the extra)
Going to go with MC for the Tangerine Dream, so gave her 2 grams in a gallon. Also used that on the Champagne Kush as I think I’m going to put her in my garden bed with organics, but thinking organics won’t work in a solo cup full of Sunshine Mix.

Roots are filling up nicely. I know from Emilya’s posts that I shouldn’t transplant until they are using up water in 1 day or less, but the gardener in me is thinking I don’t want them to get rootbound. It seems like the roots have hit bottom and are growing back up the sides. Does everyone concur that I need to wait?

Pebbles Pranks, still no sign of preflowers.

Blood Bananas, how do you know when are you officially out of preflower and into flower??? Will prob fertilize tmo and not sure if I should switch to early bloom nutes.

Well that wraps up today’s update. I’m always open to any suggestions, tips or criticisms.. so fire away

Completely forgot about the Simply Professional nutes samples I got. Hmmm. Maybe since my PH is so high in my garden bed, I should just do all 3 in pots until I can get that under control. According to my local FB garden groups that may take a long time, longer than I have with this grow.
But I really wanted to do organic for at least one. Maybe I will research more and see what I can come up with for an organic soil mix for a pot. Was thinking about trying the Down to Earth products I currently have for organics as opposed to buying Geoflora right now.
Supplies I have on hand are Sunshine mix #4, Pro-Mix Moisture potting mix, perlite, vermiculite, spagnum peat moss, coco coir, deodorized steer manure compost (says it’s a blend of composted steer manure and compost), Ace hardware brand compost, worm castings (store bought but we do have a real worm farm in Phoenix that I could get worm castings from).

Your girls looking so nice

Oof! I've been afraid of doing that so I make it a point to only take one out at a time.

We're having the same weather in coastal Los Angeles. Here come those Santa Ana winds again!
Does everyone concur that I need to wait?
Yes, wait. I tried it early this time and it took longer for the plants to adapt to the 1 gallon pots. I'd say watering ever day and a half would be good. Rooty but not bound.

No pre-flowers yet means a bigger harvest!

When you see actual pistils coming out of the new growth at the tops rather than those skinny looking fan leaves.

I would think it's important to get the soil pH under control before you start growing in it, but lots of folks grow organic in pots!

Thank you! I’m hoping I can keep them looking so nice once the real heat starts!

Haha, I usually do that but today since I was giving the two the same fertilizer I pulled them out without even thinking.

Yes, wait.
Thanks! I knew I needed to but having confirmation makes me feel better about it!!!

Your plants are all looking really good.

But I really wanted to do organic for at least one.
Are you talking about a “super soil” or just an organic mix you can add amendments to?

Supplies I have on hand are
I listen to the Cannabis Cultivation & Science podcast. The host is Tad Hussey, founder of KiS Organics. On one of his recent podcast (episode #75) they were discussing soil mixes. He said that for a basic potting mix he likes 20% compost, 32-34% perlite and the rest sphagnum peat moss. I would probably use the worm castings as the compost rather than the Ace stuff, as I’ve had some issues with growing cannabis using Ace top soils & potting mix.

I like your drip irrigation that you have in some of your pots. Is that Mr. Landscaper drip line? I have some Mr. Landscaper that looks exactly like that.

Sorry, I thought I answered this. Must have been post medication, lol. Not sure what brand it is, maybe raindrip? I got it from Ewing irrigation in Chandler, they have great prices. It’s an emitter tubing, it has built in emitters spaced every 6 inches I believe and I have 12 inch and 18 inch spacing ones as well.

Are you talking about a “super soil” or just an organic mix you can add amendments to?
Probably just something I can top dress with organics. Not sure how well pots are able to convert the organics into usable nutrients, or what I would need to add for that, but I have some Fox farms bush doctor that I can use to add microbes and stuff.
Thanks for the heads up on the Ace stuff. The only hesitation I have to mix my own soil is that it won’t contain the wetting agents that pro mix and sunshine have. I’ll have to research and see if that’s something I can buy and add because in my experience, especially out here as dry as we are, peat gets hydrophobic super quick.

Wednesday update:
Sunny/Hazy/Dusty
High of 87° F, low of 56° F
Winds 22 mph
Humidity 13%

Had to water the girls again today, with all these dry winds we’ve been having. Just gave rainwater with 1 oz GS Plant food humic/fulvic acids and 10 mls Blue Planet Seaweed per gallon to hopefully help with the heat that’s coming. I know it helped my fruit trees get thru last summer so can’t hurt.

After I took pics and watered, I put them back in their cage and wrapped shade cloth around it to help break the wind. I was worried about the seedlings in the strong wind gusts we’re having.

These girls grew a bunch since Sunday!

Seedling are looking good, I gave them some water with seaweed and humic acid today as well, but I diluted it about 50% or maybe more.

Runty PP is hanging in there. I decided to just leave her be and try LST, see if I can get her to bush out a little. I’m still amazed at how much smaller she is than her sister.

What do you guys usually do on your photos? Top and then LST? Would it be any different since I’m growing outdoors? I’d prefer them to get as bushy as possible so I can use the plant to shade the soil and roots as much as possible.

Smoke me some, give some to my friends if it’s good enough, make some extracts. I would never be able to smoke all this myself :bong: before it went bad. Plus I LOVE growing things and have a bunch more seeds to try out next.;)

I top tall and then train the top two nodes flat while the lowers catch up. If I didn't have to carry them through doorways I would probably just do LST:
