Second Outdoor Desert Autoflower In Arizona

They seem to love it so far! 99F today. When it gets hotter I may move the whole box under the East side of my huge Blue Paloverde. It stays cooler under there with dappled afternoon shade.
I already started putting up the shade cloths over my new bare root fruit trees. Earliest I’ve ever done that, hoping the heat backs down a bit, it’s too early!!

Welcome! Glad to have ya!!
Way too early cool nights help but low 90s doesn't seem to be a problem. That will change as the sun gets higher

Update on this beautiful Wednesday! Temp right now is 70° F and forecast to be 90°. Our typical nosebleed level humidity is showing 10%. The girls are doing well, responding to the LST by putting out branches. Gave just a tiny bit sprinkle of water to keep the upper roots moist, the bottom of the pots still have water but the top couple inches were pretty dry with the heat we’ve been having. I’m following the GH feed chart for aggressive feeding on these, and gave a week 2 dose of nutes with a little silica added on Monday.

Top is the Blood Banana , bottom two are both Pebbles Pranks

The bigger PP in Sunshine Mix. I tied down her top a little more after this photo, moving the wire closer to the tip.

The runt PP in the local made soil mix. Crazy the difference soil makes isn’t it. It’s obviously not going to amount to anything, but I hesitate to kill any plant as long as it’s alive. I may try to transplant it, I may just let it go.

I rescued this girl from a bucket of water, she perked up after a couple minutes so think she’s going to make it.

And my 3 photo seedlings that are going to go in my raised bed. Not sure who is who cause like a dumbass I wrote it on the outside cups, and can’t remove those without collapsing the mix I have them plunged in. I have them a drink of water today, and can see one root already showing at the side of the inner cup!

Hi T! :passitleft: Things are looking good in the desert! You've a great desert oasis going on. This little cactus bloom is bigger than the plant! I wish my cannabis would do that. Smile and stay stoneder.

Awww so pretty! I love cactus blooms. My prickly pear is about to bloom pink flowers, I’ll have some gorgeous pics soon as well. And my apple cactus is hopefully going to make some fruit.

I do have a few other things blooming, I’m a bit of a gardening nerd, lol. And it is my day off...I’m definitely staying stoneder! :bong: Hope you have a great day today!

I STILL have not planted any seeds for my outdoor grow...urgh.
You’d better get on that pronto! Lol
Are you going with photos or autos?

A couple of both I think! Haaa haaa...I think in a couple posts I said I was going to take it easy and not have too many plants. After finding out I can't have any other plants in my tent except the GSC, my outdoor prospective list just got much longer! :laughtwo:  Now I'm paralyzed with indecisiveness.

Hahahaha! Yeah me too! Every summer I tell myself I’m not gonna grow anything the next summer, it just gets to be too much work in the heat, and yet look here I am again LOL. At least it’s something a little more worthy than melons and squash.

Looking mighty fine. I might change my mind about lst. So far the desert weather doesn't seem to have an adverse effect. Apparently mid 90s low dewpoint not a problem. Let's hope mother nature continues to cooperate. Good luck with getting those photos thru the summer

Thanks! I think LST may help more than anything, more shade for the trunk and soil never hurts out here.

Good luck with getting those photos thru the summer
Yeah, thanks...I’m gonna need it. Put up 50% shade cloth over my enclosed garden. That’s where there going to go once it gets hot.

How did I miss your new journal? Man, I gotta lay off the weed ;) OK, I’m here now. Permission to come aboard Captain?
Permission granted! Glad to have you! And you’re just in time for an update.

Is having 3 journals running simultaneously too much? Or should i just update on my new photos here too? I guess I went a little hog crazy when they legalized growing :p I suppose my first journals almost done. When is it considered completed? When the grow is finished or do you usually follow buds all the way thru cure? I’m still new and finding my way around, :reading420magazine:

I’m still using GH nutes for the autos, but sticking to the official feed chart instead of the custom feed chart I used for the first. For my photos, they will be going into my no till garden bed, and will be using organics. I’m still researching what to use..looking at Geoflora and Blue Planet organics. I ammended the bed with a mix of Down to Earth Bio Live and Fruit tree (cause that’s what I had on hand) and compost, mulched it with some leaves and watered it well today to get in ready for the plants to go in in a few weeks. I’m going to put straw over the leaves.

Watering with harvested rainwater, as our well water is very hard and has a PH of 8.
You say tour water is very hard, do you know what the total alkalinity is? If you take a sample to a pool supply store, they will do a basic water test for free. What I’ve learned from this site, is that pH isn’t as important as alkalinity and the type of nutes. Shed started a great thread about whether you need to adjust pH or not.

Considering whether I should try to transplant (no no with autos, right?)
I’ve grown a few autos and have always up-potted them at least 2 times each. I never had any issues related to that. I’ve seen a lot of people state that you should start them in their final pot, but I‘ve never seen a “scientific article” stating the reason why you should do it that way.

When you have the only green things in the desert for miles, everything wants to eat them!
I bet! Those critters be like :yummy:

Crazy the difference soil makes isn’t it.
Yes it is. I found that out the hard way, kinda like the issue you seem to be having. If it were me, I would transplant that runt PP into some of the Sunshine Mix #4 you are using. You seem to be familiar with it and are having good luck with it.

Is having 3 journals running simultaneously too much?
It would be for me.

Or should i just update on my new photos here too?
That’s what I would do. I think you should make this you “perpetual journal. Less confusing for you and for us, your loyal fellow growers, to try and follow 3 journals.

When is it considered completed?
When you say it is. Since all you are doing on the first one waiting on the cure, you could close it out and state that cure updates will be in this journal.

Down to Earth Bio Live and Fruit tree (cause that’s what I had on hand) and compost
Looking at those 2, I think the combination of the ingredients will give you too much N and not enough K. I use Mega Crop (MC). It has an NPK of 10-7-18. For the sake of discussion that would translate to a low P, a medium N, and a high K. Jack’s make a line of nutes for cannabis that have the type of low P, medium N, and high K. Cannabis like a more acidic soil than an alkaline soil, so they are kind of an acid loving plant. I think if you would want to use a readily available fertilizer, I would use something like a 4-1-6 or 4-1-5 fertilizer made for Hibiscus & Palm. In my 7 gallon pot I mixed in 1/4 cup of 4-1-6 Palm fertilizer. Next time I plan on using some Espoma Palm-tone.

pH isn’t as important as alkalinity
Thanks for the reminder. I remember reading that post, I hadn’t realized there was a difference before this. I’ll have to get it tested but I’ve heard our soil/water out here is high in calcium so I’m guessing the alkalinity will be high as well as the PH

I would transplant that runt PP into some of the Sunshine Mix #4
Yeah I should prob do that, thanks for the nudge. Or maybe I’ll try popping it in the ground and see what happens.
Looking at those 2, I think the combination of the ingredients will give you too much N and not enough K.
Oh no! Well what I did is I looked at everything I had and I looked at the NPK on the Geoflora grow, which is 5-3-4. I figured if I used 1/2 and 1/2 of those 2 Down to Earth products, I’d get an average of 5.5-4-4 which was pretty close to the Geoflora Grow? I mainly wanted to get something cooking in the bed now to give it some time for the microbes to get to work.
Im so confused on what to use in my organic bed. I’ve been reading and researching in my spare time but that’s a deep rabbit hole to fall down, lol. Mega Crops FAQ page says it is organic compatible and does not harm soil life so maybe that would be ok? I could use the Holly tone but was really wanting something that had feeding charts I could follow like the cannabis specific nutes do.
When you use the Holly tone how often do you plan to add additional top dress after mixing in the initial soil amendment? And what would you use in flower?
Will take any and all hints on how to beat the rabbits and ground squirrels from eating every damn thing
Everything in my yard is surrounded by a ring of 18” high 1/4 inch hardware cloth. I constantly fight those bastard ground squirrels. We have outdoor stray cats but they can’t keep up. Sprinkling used urine soaked kitty litter (we have 12 cats at the vet clinic, so never ending supply) around my enclosed garden seemed to slow them down from digging in, but looks unsightly. Pellet guns are prob the best solution I’ve found so far.

Whenever you blend your own soil make sure there is some form of lime in it. It will enable the soil to buffer the pH as well as adding Mg.

Is having 3 journals running simultaneously too much?
Are you asking a grower whose perpetual is 1252 pages? One journal is plenty and makes it easier for us readers to track.
I would use something like a 4-1-6 or 4-1-5 fertilizer
Great idea Big D (of course)! I know that MrSauga aims for 5-1-5 (as am I for the synthetic nutes) these days so that's right in line.
