Random Thoughts: Plants & Genetics

The podcast I listen to about genetics has had a bunch of big breeders who all said DJs new blueberry work has no blueberry terps. I can’t remember exactly which breeders said it but I’m almost 100% sure Matt Riot was one. He popped a bunch of DJs blueberry looking for that old school blueberry smell and high, but didn’t find 1 pheno that had the terps he wanted or expected.
So if I were to guess after everything I’ve read and heard I’d say he was breeding her more towards potency.
Your ladies are looking amazingmy friend, keep up the hard work!!!

I agree. It has been a long time since I have had any Blueberry with Blueberry flavor. Actually it was only one time and I didn't grow it. The Blueberry really came through on the exhale. Since that time, what I associate with Blueberry now is more of a certain dankness I can't explain. Blueberry or not it still very good. Thing is there are multiple good flavors.

I really don't care if it doesn't have Blueberry flavor. Stronger would be nice though. Maybe he is not breeding for either. Maybe he is just making them because he knows they will sell. That is why I bought the Flo F-5

I wouldn't be surprised if the original male was gone after all this time. Thing is to get to F-5 they don't need it. It would explain why they don't just re-release it as the original Blueberry.

As much as I cuss breeders for doing it. I mostly have Blueberry for breeding because it is stable. If I am going to use male pollen from anything it is going to be from a basically stable strain. It is my most stable indica strain.

I couldn't stand the pressure. I had to put in a Seedsman order just for the black Friday deal. Not so much because I needed them as we all know I don't. I liked the deal they had going. All the freebies I chose were auto flower. I have been wanting some but didn't want to buy them LOL. I also got to choose which ones which cinched it for me.

It was easy enough to find a couple feminized strains I couldn't live without. One I am real excited about. Sorbet #4. Some one I trust finally came out with Cookies x G.G. #4. Not quite Cookies but close lol. Still it sound's great. I also added Strawberry Diesel x Cinderella 99 from Grimm. Plus a Rare Dankness feminized sativa strain I forget the name of. All this for Auto Flower strains I may never grow LMAO.

Pineapple Express was the strain I was thinking about trying. What every that mystery plant Greenhouse sent me as a SLH I would like to know. It had a great sweetness to it and it was grown badly. I bred it to JC 2 so I might find something nice in those seeds.

That's a understatement Pennywise LOL. The fact that I have been following strains for so long. I have seen some of the lineage. That makes it easier for me to pick strains. In most case's I knew their parents or grand parents.

Pretty sure that same thing also limits me. I mostly stick with stuff I know of.

My guess is that I am pushing the limits of this tent. Everything is bushy and packing on the bud. I have 1 less plant then I did last year and the tent is still way full. Pretty sure everything will be fine. It is close though.

I am doing things exactly the same as last grow. Except the over feeding part. Temperature was really holding last years plants back more than I ever noticed. They shelved one of my old journals today. I went back and glanced through it. I guess my production per plant is going up. Still a far cry from the 5 oz Em Dawg though.

When watering everything gets moved around a lot. Today's photos show how to fill a tent all the way up.

In the pictures you can see the new clamp on fans I got. They are the shit. Best 6" fan I have got yet. Mostly because of the new clamp they put on it. It is made to clamp onto tent poles. I have never had a plant get hurt but I have had fans fall on lots of them. No more problems with that plus they rotate so much better.

It is amazing how close you can pack them in and keep them happy. This same tent somewhere else might have humidity problems. I can get away with it here.

The tent with the little 100 watt Cob led. Has the plants growing wall to wall so much the branches bent in because of it. I have to admit I am amazed how much bud a 100 watts can make. They don't compare at all to the HPS plants but they were grown with a 10th of the power.

Ok here we go. This

This.
Last plant of the previous grow. 6 other strains are in week 6 of flower and are doing well. Some got water some didn't. Wow! interesting stuff LMAO.
I learned early on plants don't need a whole lot of help from me. I find it best to leave them alone though I have been known to stare at them for long periods. So while I can do now more for then today I will turn my attention to the task at hand.
I have clones from this plant

The plan is to reverse one to self this and one other set of Purple Betty clones. This is one of my favorite strains so I am going to make female seeds for simplicity. So that means I am going to have female pollen. The pollenated plants will be grown along with my next grow. That is the problem. If I have the opportunity to make a hybrid if one arises what do I want that grow to be.
I know of and hate mediocre weed and strains. So I will not just make some random hybrid. The plants have to be worth the time and energy. Every strain has its special plants. Its those special plants that you want for breeding. Its what plants do I want to give a chance to show me something special. There are so many things to consider when you dealing with 10 or 20 strains. It gets a little overwhelming when you have over a hundred to choose from. Lots of people think it is great to have tons of strains. With ownership comes responsibility. So having them is nothing if they are not used.
Here is where I sit as of now. My favorite strain is Blueberry Headband. I have finally got some so that one is a shoe in. Now I must choose strains that will fit my needs and also give me chance to find a special plant for a hybrid. 9 plants is all there is going to be. 3 will be sativa and mostly sativa the rest will be hybrids and indica. I am torn between finding like type strains that would blend well. Or finding radicle terpene profiles to blend.
It seems this line up is changing daily and will tell the day I get seeds wet. If the line up started today here is what it would be.
Sativa
2 Super Silver Haze
1 C-99 ( Grim Brothers )
Others
2 Blueberry Headband
2 Chem
1 M.O.B.
1 Misc. to be named later
The hard part is that these greats strains are on the bench and sound pretty good also. Tangalope, Afgooie, Acapulco Gold, Bubblegum
Love the Indiana Bubblegum...would love to see someone do a Miracle Alien Cookies. One of my new favorites and I very rarely stay too far. Cherry Headband is also a newer strain for me that I enjoyed. Good luck and high vibes. The MAC has an interesting terpene build. dominant terpenes are caryophyllene and limonene.

Well I finally went through my genetics and logged them. Still need to list them by breeder and sex yet. Holy crap do I have a addiction! I ended up with 136 strains of just store bought genetics. That is after dumping a few strains I knew I would never grow. That is 136 strains that are solid. Some are older for sure but that doesn't matter, they are still great strains.

I did figure out one thing. I had gaps in my genetics for a while. That has all been solved now. I have some extra cash now so might as well stock up for the long haul. At one time I needed to make a lot of seeds for variety. I no longer need to do that. The seeds I have now will run out someday and I will have plenty of seeds to grow by then. I just need to do a few of my own here and there. These I can do because I want too not need too. Lots of what I have will be just selfed and grown. I don't know how that makes me feel LMAO.

Back to the new grow. All new seeds are through the soil and forming roots. Pretty damn good. Out of all the seeds I germinated only one didn't pop. Then all that popped came through the soil fine. I am pretty sure that is the first for me. Still a little early to say they will all be fine. The replacement seed of Bag of Oranges I germinated has popped and will be planted today. This is going to be a cool run.

Yeah I really can't wait for that one. Tangie had too much of a artificial orange flavor. Orange Hill Special was a total fail. I know I like Agent Orange from dispensary weed. I still need to try grow it for myself.

If this S-1 is like they say I am going to like it a lot. The fact that it is a selfed plant will cut down on the amount of pheno's. This strain was no where near stable. That means there is going to be variety. I see that as a good thing. This way I can keep my favorite orange pheno. Then what? Is the Question. I am going to try and self it. Selfing a selfed strain has not proved easy for me. It has worked though. I do know I have had great luck with selfed plants. I only know of one failer and lots of success's

Through this orange search I did find Tangie. While I was not big on the flavor. I loved everything else about the strain. The strain itself seemed pretty stable as far as I can tell. The only difference I saw in the females was flavor. This strain was strong and frosty as f**k. I plan to use Tangie in hybrids just to pass on all the things I like about it. If some flavor goes along no big deal the trichome production is worth it.
