Random Thoughts: Plants & Genetics

Now that everything is pumping out trichomes by the truck load. Peyote Critical is now the frost monster in the tent. All the Critical hybrids are showing lots of trichomes. Choccrit not quite as much as the Peyote.

As this is happening the T2 doesn't look near as frosty LOL. I would hate to have to walk back all the good things I said about the JC 2 male LMAO. Still T2 is a bit more frosty than Tangiloe and there is still lots of time. It was just the supper frosty Peyote Critical would make anything look bad LOL.

Buds on Tangiloe are the hardest at this point. As dense as they are feeling now this plant looks to going to have rock hard buds. Not something you see a lot in sativas.

Thanks Dankman.

Not really figureing anything out yet Dankman. Getting better yes. I still can't decide which one I like the best so I have to use them both right now. I thought I would use one for one thing and the other for other things. I can only do that if I know what they do best LMAO.

I really like the Ricoh camera for close ups. I don't even need to crop them and they fill the frame. Thing is I am getting some damn good pictures from the Minolta also. I need to crop them but after I do they are as good as the Ricoh camera pics.

Dankman I am not sure yet. I have plenty of the Tiresias Mist left. Someone mentioned Ultra Colloidal Silver Concentrate so I got a bottle of it. I just started wondering what the hell I was going to use LMAO. I have got a few seeds with the TM. My mentor has got tons of seeds with it. So I am not sure I want to switch just yet. I am thinking of trying to self The New when I reverse a SSH clone. I may try 2 different ways this time.

Thanks Pennywise. I guess I am getting better with the new camera. I say camera because all the shots today came from the Minolta. Figure it is best to work with one at a time. The Minolta does seem to be able to do anything the high dollar Ricoh camera does but more.

Today we take a look at the tall boys again. All of a sudden I am liking the tall Choccrit pheno again. What used to be small Thai buds are really starting to thicken up. I see both parents in this plant. I guess that is what you want from a hybrid. I don't see any Thai genetics in the other plants. The pine Pheno's might be a little frostier but not by much.

What is really interesting is the hairs on it are already starting to turn red. At 30 days or so that is pretty fast. The other phenos are starting to do the same thing. I know the original Critical had some very fast pheno's. Maybe it got carried over to this hybrid. Or they could turn red early and it still takes 45 more days for the trichomes to cloud up LOL.

Next up we have the tall Liberty Haze. This is the plant that looks like it is going to have long spear buds. Still does they are just longer LOL. Here is a look at the whole plant.

When I say the buds are long. I mean long. I don't know I have had a cola as long as this one. It is over 20" now. The other's vary between 15" and 18"

The buds are long but are not as fat as the other pheno's. Still as frosty as you can tell from the last 2 pictures.

I had to take a picture of the top of one of the smaller branches for the close up. My tripod does not go high enough to take a picture of the tall branches LOL

Looking good brother :high-five: I'm considering buying some STS and have no clue on what brand is good or not. I'm sure they are all probably same. Nothing better than bud porn with morning coffee :nomo:

I started with the tiresias mist because my mentor used it. It is pricey at 60 bucks for a 4 oz bottle. You can probably make your own cheaper. Maybe better. I just wanted to start with the pre mixed stuff. From what I have seen it is not hard to make your own.

I'm same way of thinking as you are. I'm thinking I'll be buying some for the first time :) Thanks

First off. T2 is still changing. A couple of days ago I smelled some pine coming from the T2 plant. Mostly I figured I just had some of the Choccrit resin plastered to my nose lol. Later that day I started wondering. Lemon and pine is what Jacks Cleaner is supposed to smell like. Tested the smell last night and it was still there. Looks like Jacks Cleaner traits are more prevalent than I thought. To tell the truth I am kind of bummed. I wanted just lemon. Whats funny is I may be bummed about something that is better LMAO. Watching what happens as I grow out my own hybrids is really interesting. It seems I like more than just making them LOL. I am really wanting to include one of my hybrids in the next grow. Maybe.

I worked with a couple different bulbs for lighting with pictures. At one time I thought I needed tons of light. I do if I want to do any extreme close ups. Other photos don't need near the light. Looking at different wattage's and different colors of normal light. I am trying cool white and old fashion bulbs this time. I really need to find a way to diffuse some of the light. Not only are some of them to bright. The color seems to white. I am trying to bring the right amount of color to it. I have a great photo program that could do lots to these photos. It is Photoshop LOL. I don't want to Photoshop pictures I want to take them. Cropping is all I want to do. I was doing Auto adjust. Now every time I do it changes the picture to where I don't like it. So now all I do is crop them to frame what I really want to capture.

I guess I am getting better with the new camera. More pictures are coming out clear and nice. I am just disliking different things about them nowadays. Color being the main thing now. I also need to figure out how I want to photograph the trichomes. I tried to crop them today and did not get the clarity I wanted from them. I used Peyote Critical for last night's photo shoot. It is short and frosty both things make for better pictures. This page is already slowing down because of all the pictures. Might as well add a few more pictures LMAO.
Last year I would have been real happy with this whole plant picture. This year it is just ok.

The bud picture came out really nice but I'm still not overly excite about it.

Now we get to the close up. This is about as far as I could crop this photo and still keep some clarity. I am going to need to do lots better before buds start finishing.

I feel I am getting closer to where I want to be with my pictures. This year I am finding new ways to try and improve photos. Some work some don't. At least I am still learning. I am at a wall now. I hope it is not to hard to find my way around it.

My stepdaughter got the catch of the week and noticed a hint of purple showing up at the edges of the leaves on the close up photo right above this post. I am not surprised that Peyote Critical has purple. I was way surprised when she pointed it out. As I mentioned I am using different light bulbs but nothing with color. I have never seen anything like this. Going to be interesting to see if and how much it progresses.

I am getting to like the new feeding plan. I started putting a piece of duct tape on each pot so I can record what and when nuits are given to a plant. Last year I still treated all strains mostly the same. I just recorded what everything got. The difference this year is I give them all the same thing just at different times. I know for sure the plants are going to like this better. I also use different color sharpies for each type of nuits. For fast recognition.

I am back to the keep them in hungry mode. Or close. I now give them food when the ask for it. In stead of trying to have it there for them before they need it. I don't know how much production I will loose doing it this way. I won't see any losses this grow for sure. Last year I am pretty sure I lost production when the plants had to much Nitrogen in the last month. My guess is that is why they really didn't bulk up the last couple weeks.

All that was hurt by last years crop was my Bic lighter budget LMAO. Weed was plenty strong it just doesn't burn well. If I had the temps I have right now last year I don't think the plants would have been over fed. The plants looked to be doing great when they really weren't. From the looks now the buds from this grow are going to be lots bigger than last years.

The plan is still to swap to Fox Farm soil again. I am going to stock up on it so maybe I can use it continuously. I don't mind a trip a year but having to drive for soil every time I need it is a pain in the ass. Miracle Grow soil is the only soil I can get when ever I need it.

After the remodel I will be switching to a inert soil and just feed plants as needed. Fertilome Ultimate potting soil is a great as is inert soil. My mentor use's it exclusively and orders it by the pallet. Basically using this soil is a drain to waste hydro set up. It is cheaper by the bag and if done right the plants will do better. The IF it is done right being the KEY LMAO.

I've been using FFOF soil for years with good results. Last couple of rounds of flower I've used subcools super soil recipe and man it's been so much better than before. Maybe a little bit less weight but far better quality. I only mixed up a half batch, big mistake cause I'm out. LMAO. Next spring I'll be mixing up a full batch for sure. Water only, no tea's or pH water. Resinous erbs that are smoothest I've had in a long time. So far I've put six strains thru it so far. One hermed in the end, a 818 headband. It was in a tent with 5 other strains all doing well and fining up. Ok I'm done with the super soil rant

I have thought about using Super Soil myself. Before I really didn't have a place to let it cook. It still may be in my future. Planning a trip for multiple reasons so I may as well grab enough soil to last a bit.

People seem to rave about it or hate it. Since it is a make your own product that is no surprise. Made right or wrong it is the soils fault LOL.

God I love growing. I got a wonderful surprise yesterday. While walking away after looking at and smelling the Choccrit plant in the Timber tent. I had expected the pine so much the new sweetness to it almost got by me. The smell of both the pine smelling Choccrit plants is changing once again. One is showing a little more fruity than the other. Both have become sweeter smelling. It is hard to explain the smell. The mix of pine and fruit on one is incredible. The fact that smells are changing on me so much. I have no idea what it is going to end up like in the end. What ever it is now would be really cool. I did get a couple pictures. The plant I am talking about is on the left.

The main tent also had some surprises. Buds are just now starting to show character. Premature buds have that same cone shaped top bud. When those buds start to flatten out or start getting wider things start to get interesting. You get to really see what they are going to look like. T2 looks like it might have dread locks lol. Here is a pic of the whole tent. It is going to be a bit before I post more plant and bud shots. I want these differences to be noticeable when I do.

I had to piss the other day. This is what I saw when I came back. For some reason I really like this picture

No new news on the plants today. Everything seems to be doing ok. Pretty sure weed is going to burn a lot better this year. I am loosing lots of fan leaves to yellowing on the lower parts of the plant. This never really happened to this extent last year. Buds are growing daily so I know they still have enough nuits to get work done.

This time on the 2 grows last year things were not the same as they are now. One grow I timed the nuits so bad they lost a lot of growth in that 3 weeks after stretch had finished. They build a lot of bud at that time. Basically it didn't grow enough bud to bulk up. When I tried to catch up all at once the plants ended up with too many nuits. The grow after that I fed them more after stretch. When I tried to be sure they would not run out of food I over fed. The main problem being I used a guano mix tilled into the soil on top of the pot. It used lots of it in time but not enough. Again I was left with weed that burned better but not good. No top dressing this year at all. Any guano added anymore will be made into teas.

My main goal this grow was to get back to good burning weed. I never had a problem with this before. I tried to make the plants do to much. Production has never been a major goal for me. It was easy to not worry about it this time. In doing this it looks like they are going to produce more. Always hard for me to tell how plants will come out. Most the time I guess wrong LOL. Still everything is looking really good right now. As of now I don't see a problem with hitting 1 oz per plant. How much more I don't know. So things will be at least what I have did before. I am not going backwards, that's a good thing. It is mostly a pheno thing now. Some plants are putting out lots more bud than there sisters are. There might be a plant or 2 that never would produce more than a ounce the way I do things.

Nothing else to do right now but guess LMAO. Another interesting point. Going to make a trip for soil. Might as well pick up some store bought stuff to see how my weed is keeping up. I was doing ok last time I checked. That was 3 years ago. Store bought weed has got better. Has mine?

I got it from a clone brought to me from Oregon. Like a idiot I brought it into my flower tent with out quarantining it first. That was the root cause. After that. My environmental's were perfect for it to thrive. My problem was highs in the 80's and temps in the 50's at night.

My problems continued because I was not spraying the plants well enough when I was treating them. I sprayed mostly the tops of the plants and leaves. I pretty well soaked them down but it still never went away. The next year I sprayed the whole plant top and bottom plus the stems. After that I finally got it under control.
