Random Thoughts: Plants & Genetics

Still not sold on this new camera yet. Photos are coming out ok but not quite the way I want them. I need to work on lighting I think. In ways these new pics are better. I am still not getting the shots I want yet. The Ricoh camera I have coming might change all of this. I know it will do better for Macro. It is made for them.

I am fixing to make a run for soil. I am going to try the Fox Farm thing again. I have to make a road trip to get it is the reason I don't use it all the time. I may try and buy a pallet of it someday.

I am really needing to decide what to grow this next run. It is about time to start seeds and get them on their way so they have some veg time before they go into the big tent. I need to figure out a new starting time for seeds now that I am going to run a veg tent and a flower tent. I would like to have then close to flower time when the big tent opens up.

So that means I need to decide on a regular strain. SSH is on top now. No regeneration this year because of projects this summer. If I am going to make some feminized seeds I am going to have to do it with clones and in the dark. They sent me Cataract Kush not the Kosher Kush as freebies. From all I have read about Cataract Kush I am going to run it. That means The New is back on the ticket. Between all the strains I am going to have. I am going to have good if not great candidates for hybrids. Even with the fact I know nothing about them. That is where the SSH comes in. Even a bad one would have some interesting traits to add to a hybrid. Clown Royal's Blueberry father is keeping it in the running though. Now that Twiller is in as a hybrid. All I have left to choose is the strain I am going to try and reverse. I could try any of them. From past history. I have did better with regular strains so that is where I am going to start.

Girls are gorgeous Jack! Stacking up nicely too. Hard to believe that you are this far along. Seems like you just fired the garden back up. Time flies

Seems fast to me too LMAO...... Speaking of stacking up. Here are the plants in the COB led tent. They really look like they are stacking it on with their short stature. We will start with Choccrit. (With all this pine I am going to have to change the name of this hybrid LOL)

You can really see both parents in this plant. Thin leaves from the Thai side and those full frosty buds of the Critical. I am not sure if the frost is different between the 2 tents or not. It could just be I see them better in the HPS tent. This plant is plenty frosty as of now.

Bubblisious is looking pretty much the same growth wise. It is only a inch or 2 shorter than the Choccrit. It is also frosting up nicely.

This last picture is finally a whole plant picture I like. Problem is I GOT this picture I didn't Take it. I kind of remember what happened so I might be able to start recreating more and better pictures like this.

I need to add a couple things. First I am getting used to the new camera as you can tell.

Next you all will hate. Still looking to find the perfect line up. As it sits now it is.

Super Silver Haze
Cataract Kush
The New
Bag of Oranges
Ghost Train Haze
Twiller
Great line up you would think. One problem. No Berry! That should matter but it does. I have lots of Kush/Og genetics in this run. Some of each hybrid with have that terpene profile. Between it and Haze I am going to have lots of the types of flavor profiles I like. Nothing in the berry range though. Since all my hybrids are leaning hard one way or the other. Now that I have added Super Silver Haze everything changed. Thinking of dropping Twiller for Blue Gelato 41. That would give me 3 sativa dom and 3 indica/indica dom.

And it is done. The line up is finished. No genetics of my own this time. No big deal I guess I have lots of time to go through all of them. Plus the ones I will be making this time I will be looking at strains for a long time to come. I also need to make room and build a 4 x 4 tent for veg today. The new place will be a whole new learning curve. I may be running lights 24/7 just to keep warmth in the room. We will see. Today's project is just to get it built.

Here is the line up. It is going to have some damn good genetics in it.

Super Silver Haze, Mr Nice Reg.
The New, Humboldt Fem.
Cataract Kush DNA Fem.
Ghost Train Haze, Rare Dankness Fem.
Bag of Oranges. Usefull seeds Fem.
Blue Gelato 41 Barney's Farm. Fem.

Males will be looked at if and when they show up. SSH is as good a strain to breed blindly with as any. It was made that good to start. I may or may not like the mothers I pollinate with it. I won't know till I am done. I also plan on taking clones and reversing one of the SSH clones to pollinate GTH, The New and maybe BOO. If I get lucky I will have great SSH feminized seeds and hybrids. Even if I don't get a great S-1 I should at least get a good one.

When you consider that some of each strain may not be great or strong. I am hoping this will give me weed in the middle range for mid day and morning use. This will be my spring and summer weed. I don't want to much couch potato weed after a long winter LOL.

That's what I was thinking. So good I don't see it changing much. Catching myself looking right past the grow I have going now just thinking about it LMAO. There are a few old school strains I really want to grow. Super Silver Haze by Mr Nice is one of those. I am a huge Haze fan so it won't get dropped like Blueberry did. Still need to grow that one someday LMAO.

I managed to get room made for a new tent to go up. Only so much I can do in a day these days. My back has still not recovered from the move yet. It should work out perfectly. The plan is to start the new seeds next week. Earlier than normal but i'm not sure if it is timed right. Going to be a bit of a learning curve trying to get 2 tents to work together.

I did manage to make lots of room. Plants will be able to get pretty good size in it if I have it timed right. All this will be handy next year when I try and go year round. With the way things will be. I will have a veg tent, flower tent, over flow tent, and a selfing/breeding chamber. Just what I have always wanted.

Since I can't seem to quit making seeds. I might as well set myself up so I can do it right. I can't wait to see what the future will bring

When I bought this place I knew there would be room to do everything. I just needed time to figure it out. Had to spread everything out farther than I wanted to to get it done. As of now I can only have 1 tent per room. That means I will even have the smallest tent in my bedroom lol. The room where the last tent went up would be a killer full room grow set up. I could run 2 big lights in it. If I ever needed to expand it is doable. It is better insulated and has better power to it. Hmmmm lol.

Peyote Critical got it's 15 minutes of fame yesterday. The new camera takes great close ups but I'm not sure about cropping them yet. While the PC are not very tall they are covered in frost. 2 are at least. The third is a fat leafed Kush pheno I don't know about yet. Here are a couple whole plant pictures. They are better but still not like the great pic I took of the Bubblicious.

Like I mentioned each camera has its own learning curve. The new Ricoh 50 is a bit worse. Only one place to get this camera. It came from Japan with 20 different dialects in Japanese instructions. Nothing in English LMAO. While it seems to take better close ups. I don't know if will be able to crop them like before for good trichome pictures. Here are a few of the close ups I liked.

Any suggestions of what looks better would be helpful.

Photography experience would sure help. Sure miss my dad he would have been able to help a lot. He did wedding and shit in his younger years. Trying to get great pictures with just auto and macro modes is tough. If I knew to adjust this to that and that to there it would do wonders LMAO. Nothing wrong with hit and miss when you can just delete them. While I may not be able to take a great picture. I know one when I see it. Take and delete till I'm happy LOL.

Finally got the tops of everything looking green and happy. Can't say so much for the lower parts though LMAO. I am loosing more lower leaves than I like to yellowing. The plan was to feed sparingly so I am sticking to it. I should have poured more nitrogen to them during veg. Next grow with FF soil it will all be new and I will have to start over lol.

With the new overflow tent I am going to start a couple extra seeds. Not sure yet if they will be freebies or Twiller. The overflow also gives me the chance to start a few more SSH seeds. Now if they are all or mostly female I will be ok. That also means if I get 50/50 like normal I should get a couple of males and will be able to choose the best one. There is not many strains that can't be improved with SSH. Having more than one male improves those odds a lot.

Now to talk about the tall boys in the crowd. Liberty haze still gets the prize for huge. It looks to be making long fox tail buds. The light is now wired to the top of the tent. I can't go up no father. It will be fine but it is pushing it. Not much smell from it yet. Frost looks good on all the Liberty Haze as you would expect. Lots of differences in each of them too. Probably is G-13 Haze as the father and not just G-13 as stated. I really like the tallest 2 plants so far.

Next tallest as of now is the tall Choccrit pheno. It is the only one that doesn't have the pine smell. Not a lot of smell from it yet. What is there seems to be on the sweet side that I expected. It looks to be making Golf ball sized buds like the mother did. They just seem to be bigger and frostier than the Chocoloco had. This could be a winner. While the pine is nice and really strong. There is a generic factor to that type of smell. Lots will change in the next month so it is way to early to make any claims. Fun watching things develop that is for sure.

The 2 other plants I am monitoring smells from are the Tangiloe and the T2. I have mentioned that they have different growth patterns and different smells. T2 is straight up fresh lemons. Tangiloe on the other hand is forming Tahoe thick buds. They smell a bit of citrus and something else. It is to early to tell if it is lemon, orange, or tangerines but there is a citrus part to the smell. The other is kind of metallic or fuel smell. I won't even guess where this one is headed.

Now I should mention the step children I guess. (Blip Burn/Expert are the breeders lol) They are actually looking ok considering how later they were to the game. The Gorilla Widow has tons of huge hairs. You can really see the White Widow in her. No smell yet but the buds are impressive so far. The Blue Dream also managed to get a few branches up in the canopy. No Blueberry so far but it has a fruity smell to it. Maybe it will form later. Not the smell I would expect from a Blue Dream but the plant is growing well. Maybe I will feature them tomorrow on photo day.

I am getting real excited about the prospects of what that Jacks Cleaner 2 male added to these hybrids. I never knew how to crop and get really close up pictures when I had it. The only way I had to spot the trichomes on the male was with a little scope. There were shiny things on it that were not on the other male. If I had that same plant today I would know for sure what it was.

Thing is. It is showing what it I would expect from a solid male in this 1 plant. Jack the Ripper traits, lemon smell, and more trichomes than the Tangilope and Tangiloe did. If this T2 plant comes out like I expect. What are all the other hybrids going to be like. I crossed that same male too.

Headband
Glueberry
Genius
Mystery Plant

They all produced between 30 and 100 seeds. Plus along the way my sloppiness has given me T2, Purple Tahoe, Menthol Purps, Basic 99, and RKS seeds. If that JC 2 male was a great one. What are all these hybrids going to give. They were all good to great mothers. Thing is if this is a great male and it adds crystal it should also improve everything. Hmmmmmmm.

Rumor has it that someone might be giving the Mystery Cleaner a run. It was my #1 choice after harvest. Judging only the mothers. I ran the T2 just to see the difference between it and Tangiloe. If I had wanted to try the best it would have been the Mystery Cleaner. Hopefully I will soon have even more info on what that JC 2 male did.

It is nice that plants are in the really interactive stage. Changes are happening fast now. This gives me lots more to think about other than what seeds to grow next LMAO. The line up is set with A+ genetics so whats to change LOL.

Not only pheno hunting. Having all the places I wanted is also going to make any breeding projects better. Mostly because of the pheno hunting part. But for other reasons also.

The best thing is I now have a place to put any plant I decide I want to save clone or what ever. I have had incredible plants before. At those times I wasn't set up to save them.

I spent some time getting pictures of the Gorilla Widow. Pictures are ok. Just ok. I did learn why I can't get good plant pictures. Most plants are to tall. I never get the right angle on them. I was told this before but thought it was the other way around. At that time plants were shorter and I could have did it right. That is why the Bubblicious pic came out so well. They are the only short plants I have this grow.

Now for Gorilla Widow.

Here are the whole plant pictures. One from each camera LOL. Pictures didn't do it justice. This is a pretty cool looking plant with all them wild hairs going everywhere. Buds are forming up good so far. If the continue there should be some big ones.

The cola and bud pictures show a little of all the hairs and how the bud formations are.

Smells are more leaning to White Widow as of now. No pine but it is definitely not Gorilla Glue. The next month will tell the story.
