Random Thoughts: Plants & Genetics

Dankman the Kosher were freebies, they choose me LMAO. I have actually been thinking about running the Kosher Kush this run and then moving up to the Holy Grail Kush after that. We will have to see.

At one time I was pretty short on Og genetics. If Og meant anything anymore. Lets just call it the Kush side. Lots of Og out there with no Kush in it. Which makes me wonder. I am not one to breed backwards but I am going to have too. I have some Double Sour Purple Kush. It is said to have come from Aflphakronik years ago. It is supposed to be a very sour kush. I have been saving it for when I had the right thing to cross with it. It is a regular strain so there is a good chance I can reverse it. I need to grow it out now to find a good female to regenerate. This being a older Kush I don't know how high the THC rating would be. Probably not very high. If I can find a really sour one then at least I could try and add sour flavor to something. This is something I want to do before I grow out ALL the Holy Grail Kush. This should be my strongest kush. Sour Kush aka Headband is one of my favorite strains. Mostly for the high but I love the flavor also. It could be fun to try and make my own version of Sour Kush. Or I just say F**k it and grow the Holy Grail now LMAO.

Everything is going along fine. I noticed a few plants are starting to loose their dark green color so I am starting to add nuits to the ones that want it. 2 weeks into stretch so I went with the Bloom nuits. Some might need more than others. I am sure some will get nothing at all. I am no longer giving everything the same thing at the same time. I grow in single pots so each plant can get just what they need.

Back to the minimalist approach to feeding for me. When I did this before I still gave everything the same stuff at the same time. I just gave them less. I wasn't too sure about my abilities to spot things before they went too wrong back then. I am better at knowing what plants want now. I should use that experience to my advantage. I do need to pay better attention to each plant as I water them now. I tend to start watering first then take time to look at plants. Lots of times missing something before they were fully watered. That leaves them in need of nutrient's for another week. That can slow growth some.

Enough of my rambling. Here is a look at the tent this morning.
While the canopy looks good. All 3 Peyote Critical plants are on booster seats. One has 2 2" x 12" boards under it. The other 2 just have one 2" boost. All the other plants are fine. Nothing looks to be getting to tall for the tent. I still have 4"to go up if I need to. Plants are going to get taller but not to the extent that they could be a problem.

Hairs are starting to show up everywhere. I have been keeping a eye out for the first plant to put out crystal. Nothing yet but the Bubble Gum in the LED tent looks close. Early crystal is great but it really doesn't mean anything. I am just happier when trichomes are in the house LOL. Here is just one of the many fuzzy headed branches.

Today we are going to take a look at the differences between HPS and LED grown plants. It is now around 2 1/2 weeks into stretch. First off we will start with the Choccrit.
When you look at the 2. It would look like the plant grown in the HPS tent was a little stretchy. This is how thy all look at this time. Buds tend to fill all the space between nodes. The plants have a more open structure so lots of light gets to all the branches. You just don't see that in the plant grown under the LED.
LED plant is now starting to show some stretch at least. There is not as many branches on the LED plant. I can only have so many with it and still give them all good light. Looking down I can see plenty of tops in the light for this plant to produce ok. Now we wait to see how they fill out.

Next up is the Bubble Gum. Pretty much the exact same thing going on with these plants.
The main difference is the Plant in the LED tent Isn't opening up enough to get as much light to the lower branches. I don't think it has a chance to produce as much as the HPS light just because of this.

I am doing a pretty good job of nailing down the next grow. It is looking like I am going to run one of my hybrids along with them.
The biggest change is to the fact I am not going to worry about finding a good male. That opens up what regular strains I can grow. I really don't think I will find a better regular strain. Mostly just different. I have a couple in mind.

Here is what I know is going to make it.
Ghost Train Haze
Bag of Oranges
Kosher/Holy Grail Kush
The New/ Banana Sorbet

The simularities are so close on the last 2 strains it really shouldn't matter which one I grow. The Kush is the reason why everything changed. So much indica in these I really don't have to run a berry indica like normal. That's what opened up my regular strains as options. The above strains cover sativa and indica. All that leaves is hybrids left.

Crater Lake from Dynasty seeds is leading the pack right now for regular seeds. It is pretty much a Blue Dream made with different plants. That left me looking for another middle of the road strain. Search as I might I was having trouble matching up the right strain till I thought of Twiller. C-99 x Headband. This strain should be perfect no matter what happens in the hybrid.

No telling what is going to happen with it now. I have mentioned a couple times how dank the Choccrit is becoming. The longer things go the stronger it seems to be getting. Weird as shit. Both parents had wonderful fruity smells in flower before. I don't know where dank came from let alone really dank. I can spot all the Choccrit by smell now. No other plants have much smell at all yet might be the main reason. Pistils on lots of the plants are starting to show trichomes. Can't be long now to see them showing up on the leaves.

Trichomes are in the building! I thought I would be able to spot the first plant to show trichomes. I was wrong. It seems over night a bunch of them did. Choccrit, Liberty Haze, Bubblisious, are all starting to get frosty. Buds are also starting to get round on top now. At least things in the HPS tent they did. The Timber tent seems to be a few days behind.

Ok now for a question that effects us all. What does everyone do for day light savings time? Pretty sure most do nothing at all. Which hours of the day should not matter as long as they are the same length. I do like that I can now water a hour earlier. Thing is the lights will be shutting off a hour earlier. Right around the time I get up and turn the heat back up. Because of this the tents cool down a little faster. I'm not sure if I will change things today or not.

Limbo time is soon going to be over. I can't wait for picture time to start. Now that the shiny stuff is here it won't be long now. Moving up to a 20 mp camera this year. This is going to help with the close up shots for sure. Thing is it is the whole plant pictures that I need help with. At some point in time my inability to adjust the camera on my own is going to be the problem. Auto settings can only get you so far. I am hoping for at least another year of improvement with factory settings LOL.

I don't do Apple products. The only Iphone I have had was for work and I hated it. I don't know the operating systems. I am sure I could learn but the fact I don't have or use any other Apple products why start. LMAO.

I have tried it but when all your music is on one format changing it all is a bitch. My first Ipod was a total failure.

On a totally different subject. I just figured something out. It is pretty funny actually. The Second Generation Crown Royal I ordered is really Clown Royal LMAO. I just read it at a glace and moved to what was in it. G.G. #4 x Blueberry is what caught my eye. In my defense I did soon realize that it wasn't the same strains. It just took a month to realize that one letter was different.

I am having real trouble deciding which strain I want to try. They are actually very similar. Crater Lake SSH f-2 x Oregon Huckleberry. Or Clown Royal G.G.#4 x Blueberry f-4. Both are basically Blueberry hybrids. I am going to have plenty of indica so I really don't need a Blueberry. Oregon Huckleberry is pretty much a worked over Blueberry clone........I really liked the Glueberry I grew. Clown Royal should at least have a similar pheno. That and the fact I will be getting some very Blueberry pheno's has Clown Royal back on top for now.

I hope to try and reverse a clone for female pollen. That is why I want a regular strain in this run. Then use it for hybrids also. I have decided to run The New with Kosher Kush and the Banana Sorbet with the Holy Grail Kush. They are all so similar I figured to grow a great with a very good of each. Not that they all are not going to be great. Pretty sure all 4 are real winners. So this run will be Banana Sorbet and the Holy Grail Kush.

What I don't know yet is how I am going to get there. The easiest would be to clone them and move on. The only problem with that is that I would be going in blind. Or I would need to keep the clones long enough to find out which the best plants are. Not sure I want to do that. I would have clones for over 2 months. That leaves regeneration. Not all plants will regenerate. Most should but there are not guaranties. I can tell a lot by looks but it is the high and flavor that matters the most. I need to smoke them first to really know them. Hmmm.

Yes Pennywise that is a definite plus. I also like the weird things that can come from S-1 hybrids. The plan is formulated now. I am going to do both. I can take clones pretty early. Get them rooted and try and reverse one of them. All this can be done while the others are flowering. Once I get done flowering I will know the plants I want to regenerate. Then I can do the whole thing all over with the plants I regenerate. Hopefully both projects work. The first will be hit and miss if I chose the right plants. The strains I plan to use are strong enough that any choice may work out fine. I will probably go with one of the stronger strains to reverse because of that.

Plants are far enough into flower things are starting to get interesting. Not to brag, as of now the most impressive plants are the Choccrit. More frost is showing up everyday. I don't remember Chocoloco frosting up this fast or this well. This is one of the things that interests me about breeding. I think I have added more crystal from the Critical. Bigger trichomes and more of them is going to help. What really matters is what is in the trichomes. I may get a stronger version of Chocoloco high or I may get something totally different.

I am headed for the something totally different I think. The fact that all the sweet fruity smells of both parents is gone says something. The plants smell a lot like the Critical tastes. No sweetness from the fruity side at all. Its not dank like a Kush or Haze it is something different. Thing is it tasted nothing like it smelled. As strong as everything smells right now I have a feeling this one is going to give the Charcoal filters a run for their money.

At least now I can start wondering how things are turning out in the tent. My mind can wonder far and wide when plants are not budding. That can be a good thing and a bad thing. My mind is on Marijuana most of my waking hours. It can be tough with all these thoughts and ideas happening constantly as I go through my day.

Agent Orange has taken over the regular strain spot for a few days. I started thinking what strains I really wanted to self. Agent Orange tops that list. I also wanted to have a good regular strain to reverse. I don't know what kind of pheno's I am going to get yet. I should like this strain at least if not love it. This will also give me a chance to use a male if one shows up. I still don't know anything about Bag of Oranges yet. It is still is a perfect choice for a regular hybrid. If the male doesn't carry a bunch of orange it will have lemon from the JTR.

The last TGA strain I grew had 2 males and a freaky female. I hope that was a fluke and I actually get a female to reverse this time. It is going to be a one and done thing so I better use all the plants. When I do it I will probably have a Holy Grail and a Banana Sorbet with it.

That is about all that is on my mind today. Ice fishing better start soon, I need a distraction.

Smell has now hit the flower tent. Of course there has been smell up to this point. It was just normal plant smells. While the Choccrit started with a dank smell in general. One of the pheno's has started pumping out a wonderful Pine smell. It is the only one with any noticeable difference. This same pheno is also carrying tons of crystal like the Critical did. I say nothing else had any smell. To tell the truth I REALLY don't know. The Choccrit plant was the first plant I smelled. Everything after that smelled like the first plant. LMAO

I said that this hybrid was going to teach me a lot. It is already starting. The third Choccrit plant is in the LED tent so I don't know what pheno it s like. Of the 2 in the HPS tent. It looks like I have 2 different growth patterns. The taller pheno has the same bud structure as the Chocoloco. At least from the looks so far. This is a much taller plant than the one I grew first so I can't tell the true difference. The plants before were grown under a totally different light schedule. They went to 12/12 at 10" tall. Internode spacing is much closer on the second plant. Not just short internodes. It is all about how the buds are going to be formed. This one should have long cola's. All 3 plants had real similar growth structure during veg. All 3 are different 3 weeks into flower.

I was surprised to notice that Choccrit had such a strong dank smell during veg. I was totally blind sided by the pine smell. It is still early in trichome production so the terpene profiles will keep changing as we go along. At this time I can only imagine what they will end up like. With both plants smelling sweet and fruity before I am really surprised that it didn't stay. I was hoping for fruity lol.

Now that smell has changed I really wonder what else will change. As terpenes change so do the highs. I bred this just to be fun happy weed. Pine shouldn't change this but it might. So now we wait.

New camera showed up yesterday. Just in time to try and get a few pictures of the Choccrit I am talking about. Today's task is to set up the photo booth and snap a few pics. I stepped up to a photography back drop. No more black sheet for this guy LMAO. Whats weird is they look the same to the naked eye. I am hoping the look is different in the photo's.

What's real funny is I spend very little time in the Here and Now while growing. Because of growth rates. There are times it is all I have. Later in flower I will be more centered on the buds themselves. 3 weeks into flower all I can really do is wonder "What if". When you add in the time I spend thinking of the next grow it gets worse. At least I am not living in the past all the time. Still it makes me wonder. I see myself as well grounded in most things. In normal life it is all about the Here and Now. Totally different than the grower me. Weird.

Pennywise. I agree. That is why I am so surprised this one started smelling so much so fast. I noticed the plant in the LED tent has the same pine smell. There is a sweetness to it. I have no idea of where this strain will end up but I really like what I see as of now.

Whats funny. If someone had given me these seeds and said they were White Widow I would believe it. The pine is that strong.

Here is a quick peak at the whole tent. Lots of frost is now showing up. Peyote Critical is frosting up nicely too. I was almost surprised till I realized they both have Critical in them. That is where all the frost is coming from.
The Peyote Critical with the fat indica leaves is easy to spot. It is totally different that its sisters.

I am noticing a big difference in the bud size between Tangiloe and T-2. Tangiloe's Tahoe influence is causing this I am pretty sure. I will try and get comparison pictures tomorrow.

First pictures with the new camera last night. I ran into a bit of a learning curve changing camera brands. Only a couple came out right. Once I figure it out pictures should improve. They still show the early frost fine.
I mentioned that Choccrit looks like it is going to have huge colas. You can tell from this picture just how close the internodes are and how the cola is forming. The tallest pheno of Choccrit doesn't have the same traits.

Close ups was where I had real trouble getting pictures that were not blurry. One did come out ok.
I really like the 20 mp above the 16 mp I had before. It is going to help me get better pictures like this. Any REALLY close shots are going to come from the other new camera I have coming. I did some research and it kept popping up when I searched for macro cameras. Between these 2 cameras I am hoping to get my pictures where I want them.

Pics came out killer, I’m gonna have to give the ChocCrit a run now lol. Out of all the plants I’ve i still have yet to hit a plant with pine terps.
Your gonna love that Tangieloe for sure, it’s all the old man has been smoking lol. The terps on her are out of this world, she has a soft citrus with a strong mint on the nose. It reminds me of those little Andes mints in the green wrapper. I will get some nug shots of her for you if I ever get all this trimming done lol.
Have a good day guys!!!

Today we are going to take a look at Liberty Haze and Peyote Critical. It is not like the Choccrit plant is the only one doing good. It is just the one that surprises me the most.

Liberty Haze plants are pretty much all different pheno's. The tallest is going to form buds similar to the G-13 Haze I grew. The smallest is doing ok but is nothing special yet. It is the plant in the middle that is the most impressive. Growth wise this plant is amazing.
It has good branching and they all seem to have the same growth rate. All branches have long buds forming. I have heard of a bushy type growth pattern that forms spear type buds. This looks like it has been explained to me. All the buds are forming like the 2 in the next picture
When you add in the frost this plant is putting out. This might be a real keeper at a different time. I have more Liberty Haze so I might find another one. Probably won't if this is the plant I think it is. I just have to much planned to keep a plant to regenerate out of this crop. Here is the close up

At one time 2 of the Peyote Critical and the Choccrit looked just a like. After turning the lights back all that changed. Peyote Critical didn't stretch at all. 2 out of the 3 are on booster seats. The only plants that need them. Still they are some very interesting plants with plenty of frost.
2 pheno's look just like this one. The third has massive indica/Kush leaves. I mention Kush because they have had the most massive leaves I have seen. Some indicas don't compare. It is going to be a interesting plant. It is not pumping out the trichomes like the 2 others though. All that can change at any time. Here is a close up a the Peyote Critical

Cool I was wondering about it. Really wondering how this crop will come out. Strains were rated good but they were all chose because this was a new grow not because they were my best. Mostly it is the fact I can't wait to smoke the weed from the next crop LMAO. Haven't even popped the seeds yet. The only reason to doubt the plants flowering now is because they were not #1 choices LOL.

You never know what you are going to get till you grow it. It is not all about strength. High THC helps but it doesn't do everything. Up or down I like my weed to make me smile. Not all strains will do that for me no matter how good or strong they are. So the fact that I am looking forward to the high THC run makes no sense LMAO.

And now there is Lemon in the tent. T-2 is putting off a nice lemon smell. Not hints of lemon. This is full on lemon like I got from Jack the Ripper and SLH. I was hoping to be able to tell the differences between Tangiloe and T-2. So far it has been easy. Different plant growth and different smells is making this simple. I really didn't have a clue what the male I used smelled like. I used it because of signs of crystal and its resemblance to JTR while growing. The fact that it's offspring are showing lemon terps is good sign.

Tangy and Tangilope have citrus terps in them but they are nothing like lemon. I am sure it didn't take a whole lot of influence to get lemon lol. Thing is at least this time I know. If I had gotten the same outcome as the Choccrit I never would have known. Just because plant A smells one way and plant B smells the same. The offspring don't have to have those same smells. With T-2 it is easier to see what happened.

The tall Liberty Haze is now too tall to water on the table anymore. I water everything outside the tent so I can check the plants out real well. (This is when hermies are spotted) With them at eye level it makes it easier to see whats going on with all the lower branches and junctions. Won't be happening with that L.H. anymore lol.

Buds are blooming hard now. Everything is showing a nice frosty layer. Buds are just now starting to grow together forming colas and top buds. Everything is looking great. The kind a great that is always followed by a oh shit LMAO.

Light fixture can no longer go up with the ratchet hangers. Stretch is over so I should be good. All else fails I have 2 more inches if I need them. Last year I never even came close to height limits. Growth is so much better this year than it was last year. This year I am wondering if the buds will fill in. Last year I was wondering if they would get bigger. It sounds the same but its not. Last years colas were 4" to 6". This year some look to be twice that size. At this time I thought last year I thought things were going great. Looking at things this year I can see how it wasn't as great as I thought.

And just so every one knows. I still have not figured out which regular strain I am going to add to the next grow. Everything else is chosen but it LMAO.

Today we take a look at the 2 different Tangilope hybrids. The differences are amazing considering they are from the same mother. One branch was pollinated with female Tahoe Og pollen. The rest of the seeds were made by JC 2 pollen floating around the tent. From the lemon smell I am getting from T2 I am glad they decided to join the crowd.

We will start with T-2.

So far I really like this plant. Had to tell with pictures but it is a lot more open. Lots more light gets to the lower buds. Even with the open structure. It looks like the internodes are tight enough to make some decent colas.

Next up is Tangiloe. This plant looks and acts just like the Tangilope mother. Even the fact that it doesn't like much nutrients till it is short on them. It was the last plant to be fed so it is still greening up again. You can't tell by looking at the buds. They are forming up nice and there are lots of them. The mother plant made pretty good lower buds even with little light getting down into the canopy. I hope this one does the same. Hard to tell by pictures. The buds on the Tangiloe are thicker looking than the T2. This has to have something to do with the Tahoe influance.
