Hey LN, I just checked out Crystal Springs web site and it says that pH in Distilled Water is 5-7. I guess it varies from batch to batch.
De-ionized distilled water should be 7.0 but otherwise yeah, you taught me something (and a bit of googling, but you put the bug in my brain)
Maybe I am wrong or the pH color card kit that I have been using is a piece of shit like my Burpee, imagine that... two of my pH testers are in cahoots.
If that's so just be damn sure you don't let them breed! The color card kit should get you close enough that you can tell if your Burpee is very far off.
I need to check on that hydrated lyme tomorrow. I am going to a bigger town tomorrow so I'll hit a greenhouse or two on the way back. Thanks again for the info.
Be vewy vewy careful with that hydrated lime...you saw what happened with the tiny bit I used in my soil mix the first time around in my journal lol. A teeny tiny amount goes a LOOOONG way. To be sure you don't waste any water I would start with 1/2 teaspoon per gallon and add in 1/2 tsp increments...that's me though. Honestly, I wouldn't even mess with it again. The potential for major pH swings with it are too high with this kind of crop. If you already have the pH Up and Down just use them until you get a chance to transplant or start new seeds. At that point mix your dolomite lime in with your soil before you plant anything and you should be golden
