My First Time: AK47 & Gold Bar Kush

this is what I use to trim.

my friend worked at a junk yard and some crack head came in and scrapped a bunch of assorted stainless steel medical equipment.

I got scissors and hemostats, i still have a few left after giving a bunch away.
They can get a little crampy on the fingers after about 3 or 4 hours.
but they really can get in there and nip off small fans. non frosty of course,

I'll probably have to use the scissors I have for harvest tomorrow evening unless I can get away from work long enough to try another store tomorrow. I did find the ones Rad described online and will probably order straight and curved if I don't find them locally tomorrow. I used to have some scissors similar to those Hash Hound, but I think the ex took them. I think they were hers anyway from when she was a dental assistant. I have small hands so it usually isn't a problem using small scissors.

I'm getting excited and nervous. Just had a peek in all three tents and I'm planning what's next. I think I need to drop 2 or 3 more seeds soon.

Oh, I almost forgot that I found this at the gas station the other day for $9.00. I don't know how to use it but I thought it was pretty.

Welcome to the world of paraphenalia !

That's a pretty little pipe. The bowl is on the left. The mouthpiece is on the right. You probably need a screen for the bottom of the bowl. Screens typically cost les than 50 cents each and are sold most places that sell pipes and rolling papers. The screens need replacing every 4-8 bowls you smoke - depending on the resin in your harvest. We buy them online. Average pipe smokers will use about 100 screens a year.

Cover the hole in the pipe bowl with a screen (which may slide around until the bowl gets a little resiny), then load with ground (or torn) cannabis buds in a layer on top of the screen below the rim of the glass. A grinder is really nice to have. Most grinders are aluminium 4-piece grinders that give you a place to store and carry your ground, ready to smoke, cannabis.

On the left front of your pipe is an air hole known as a carb (short for carburetor.) A finger or thumb over the hole controls whether all air is sucked through the bowl or whether some air is added to the smoke inhaled from the bowl. This pipe is made to be held by the bowl in the left hand with thumb on the carb. With a loaded bowl a lighter such as a bic lighter is held in the right hand and used to light the bowl each time you inhale. (For best results shift the lighter each time you light a bowl, from the edge of the glass at the 10 o;clock posiion, to 12 oclock, 3 oclock, etc around the bowl - this is known as cornering.)

The pattern is:
let out your breath,
cover the carb hole,
put pipe to lips,
inhale slowly while cornering a flame from a lighter for 1-2 seconds,
remove the flame.
continue to inhale while lifting and closing the thumb over the carb hole,
exhale when inhale is finished (no need to hold breath more than 2 seconds, although we used to go about 30 seconds in the 70s.)

Using the carb makes a smoother smoke.
Using a water pipe (a bong or a water hammer) makes a much smoother smoke.
Using a hemp wick to light makes a cooler (smoother) smoke.
Washing your bud immediatley after harvest makes a smoother smoke (and a cleaner light gray ash.)

Notice the trend toward smoother smoke?
Among other things, this allows a person to take big hits and get higher faster :)

Big bongs encourage big inhales, and thus are for more experienced smokers. You can still take a big hit off a small pipe or bong, so I prefer small bongs and water hammers.

Reminder: Fast dry a portion in 230 degree oven for 110 minutes before trying to grind and smoke it :)

I just came in from visiting with the neighbors and will turn on the oven as soon as I post this. Thanks for the reminder. I plan to smoke some tonight.

I read the low and slow drying thread earlier and decided to make a couple of shelves for the mini fridge before I got started. I think they turned out pretty good. This will be the fridge for the green things.

This time I'm really going to start the harvest. Be back in a little while with a weight.

AK47 has been chopped. I want to thank everybody for all the help. I'm not sure if I could have done this without all the help. I'd like to especially thank Radogast for always being here and watching after me. You've been a blessing to me. :thankyou::hugs::hugs::hugs:

The AK clone should be finished in the oven in just a few minutes. I can't wait.

I wonder if this is the second most popular harvest day after 4/20. Did you realize that today is mutual oral day? 6/9

I have her chopped and weighed but haven't trimmed yet. Came up with a weight right now of 838.3 grams. I'll try to update the weight after trimming.

The AK clone is in the oven and the timer is set. I probably didn't trim quite enough. I couldn't find my oven bags so decided that aluminum foil will have to be ok this time. The rest will get hung or put in the fridge. 35.1 grams wet.

I just dry on a cookie sheet - but my house always smells like weed anyway :)

Gold Bar kush would have been many times as big. - sigh.

You've got the basic growing skills. Now you need to get fortuitous with your seeds !

My house for sure smells like weed right now with all the trimming going on and the clone in the oven.

I would have loved to see GBK flower and stretch. He was ready to fill that 3' x 3' tent.

I'll be dropping a couple more seeds in the next couple days. With CBD in mind and needing help getting to sleep, I've narrowed it down to 3 choices. Might drop all three. I waiting to make the final decision until I smoke some of AK.

Have yourself a great 6/9 trimming day. I'm off to be with the Moon, the Mississippi, and whatever else the night brings to the wife and I.

Have a great night with the wife. I'm sitting here with most of my body tingling, a ringing in my ears, it's hard to focus, and I feel like I'm swaying back and forth. I think that was a little less than half a bowl because of fiddling with the screen. I keep finding myself forgetting to type for a minute. This took a while to type. :cheesygrinsmiley:

That was a busy evening. Got all the big leaves off and trimmed it well enough to go on the drying racks. Ended up having to make a third one for the fridge and still ran out of room. This morning the temp is 8c/46F and humidity is 63%. Put the last little bit on a scrap of the rack and put it above the lights in the tent with C99.

The 32" tent is empty now. I forgot to unplug the UV light and it came on just as I was finishing up.

This was what was left of the first try with the pipe and it got me feeling great. Did just a tiny bit more before calling it a night. My whole body was tingling and I kept catching myself just sitting here staring and swaying. I had a feeling of motivation that was very minor compared to everything else. It was close to 2am and being tired could have been why there wasn't much motivation. I woke up after sleeping 10 hours and feel like I have a hangover.

Very nice job with the racks.

Waking up with a hangover is an unusual symptom - curious.

Thanks Rad. I just used what I found in the garage and it worked out.

I hadn't eaten since 6 last night and got up at noon. I wasn't hungry but I just ate anyway and I'm hoping the headache is from forgetting to eat and not hangover. It's hard to tell the difference sometimes.
