Oh, I almost forgot that I found this at the gas station the other day for $9.00. I don't know how to use it but I thought it was pretty.
Welcome to the world of paraphenalia !
That's a pretty little pipe. The bowl is on the left. The mouthpiece is on the right. You probably need a screen for the bottom of the bowl. Screens typically cost les than 50 cents each and are sold most places that sell pipes and rolling papers. The screens need replacing every 4-8 bowls you smoke - depending on the resin in your harvest. We buy them online. Average pipe smokers will use about 100 screens a year.
Cover the hole in the pipe bowl with a screen (which may slide around until the bowl gets a little resiny), then load with ground (or torn) cannabis buds in a layer on top of the screen below the rim of the glass. A grinder is really nice to have. Most grinders are aluminium 4-piece grinders that give you a place to store and carry your ground, ready to smoke, cannabis.
On the left front of your pipe is an air hole known as a carb (short for carburetor.) A finger or thumb over the hole controls whether all air is sucked through the bowl or whether some air is added to the smoke inhaled from the bowl. This pipe is made to be held by the bowl in the left hand with thumb on the carb. With a loaded bowl a lighter such as a bic lighter is held in the right hand and used to light the bowl each time you inhale. (For best results shift the lighter each time you light a bowl, from the edge of the glass at the 10 o;clock posiion, to 12 oclock, 3 oclock, etc around the bowl - this is known as cornering.)
The pattern is:
let out your breath,
cover the carb hole,
put pipe to lips,
inhale slowly while cornering a flame from a lighter for 1-2 seconds,
remove the flame.
continue to inhale while lifting and closing the thumb over the carb hole,
exhale when inhale is finished (no need to hold breath more than 2 seconds, although we used to go about 30 seconds in the 70s.)
Using the carb makes a smoother smoke.
Using a water pipe (a bong or a water hammer) makes a much smoother smoke.
Using a hemp wick to light makes a cooler (smoother) smoke.
Washing your bud immediatley after harvest makes a smoother smoke (and a cleaner light gray ash.)
Notice the trend toward smoother smoke?
Among other things, this allows a person to take big hits and get higher faster

(Clockwise from top left) A small Bong/water pipe, a bent water hammer, a standard water hammer, screens, a 4-piece grinder, bic lighter, and an air pipe like yours (in the center.)
Big bongs encourage big inhales, and thus are for more experienced smokers. You can still take a big hit off a small pipe or bong, so I prefer small bongs and water hammers.
