Grape Ape & Golden Tiger Hit the Shower - DBHBB & 600W HPS - Winter 2016

Evenin major, was just re reading your post talking of raised beds and so on,...if i was you i would look into using "Rootbuilder" sheets! You can choose the size brotha. When it's time , ya just cut a few ties, and unwrap the 100 ? gal. pot. They use them alot over seas in the larger nurseries for their ease of transplanting. All they do is cut of the wrap and put another pc . in, fill up the void with new soil...done .It would look like my 26ers but 5 times as large....yowsa ! Lottsa soil....big plants, plus , like you say, if they like the soil below , great, if not, doesn't matter much. Anyhow , just a thought for ya pal! Cheers.

Thanks duggan! That does sound like an ideal solution. I'll check 'em out. Being a cheap SOB, I'm afraid the price may scare me off, but definitely worth a look. :thanks:

Good day friend! I just looked up "Rootbuilder" pots and sheets for ya....it comes in various sized pot kits or 100 foot long sheets X 17" for 435 bones! That's a lot of biiiig pots Major! It sounds like a lot of cash but it would last indefinetly and you can choose your size! Not sure how many , or how big you'de make them but 100 feet would be enough for your outdoor AND indoor grows. You would have to specify how many bottoms (for indoor grows)you would need. The biggest pre-made ones come with a 12" round bottom pc.That would be for the 7 gal. size. That's the size I started using them, then I just figured...why not just use two pcs. and make a huge pot with my own homemade bottom. Cheers pal!

:adore: How awesome of you to look that up! Thanks much!
I did look into them and if I thought I'd make enough pots to justify it, I would consider going that route. As it is, I only use 4 big pots at any one time. I did come up with something simple and CHEAP :cheesygrinsmiley: I'm going to try (I can't help myself). Once I get them made and tested I'll give you a peek, assuming they work.

Nice to see the girls recovering pita :thumb:
:thanks: GC!

Major, have you done all your transplanting yet....into the bigger pots. Was wondering if they're "hooked up" yet! Bet they look a whole lot better eh?
I do have them all in their final 7 gal pots. They look a lot better but I'll never get the loss of two weeks of veg back. :hmmmm: They are going to be small and, as such, have a low yield. That's OK. I have plenty already and I will get to try a couple of new strains. I also have one of each I'm trying to keep until summer. We'll see how that goes...

I was going to wait until this coming weekend to do an update since there isn't much new to see, but here are some photos from last Saturday, the 23rd. These were taken 5 and 6 days after their transplant. It is 18 days since I flipped them and about 9 days since first pistils on GASS. Pic's were taken right at lights-out so they look a little sleepy. I need to get in there and clean up their skirts but didn't want to do it until they recovered. Not a single good-sized fan on them. WTF? :loopy:

They hooked up with the soil in the bigger pots and I want to give them a drench. It's been 9 days so far but the pots still have plenty of water weight in them. Probably another several days before they need anything. They have NOT had a GE drench. The rescue drench helped a lot but that was in the 1 gal pots. My concern is whether the big pots need a rescue drench as well to get this soil kick-started.

That's where I'm at. :allgood:

Major, ya,....i see . It's ok , they'le be a lil small...the quality will still be there , and ,like you said , you'le get to try out something new. They all still have a ways to go , so they will grow like mad , pretty soon. I would not give a "rescue drench" , just give them a chance to hook up to what's there. You said 9 days from water, but pots still feel like they're ok....don't water, not yet. They are most definetly sending and building roots right now, into all that good soil. If it was me , i would spray alot , but with a much weaker mix, with both , De-Stress and Brix. Don't take off ANY leaves right now either bud. Leave the hair cuts for a couple weeks from now, ...let them use those leaves for fuel to "get goin", will only slow down the process if ya take those off. Anyhow Major, lookin forward to seein your outdoor experiment! Cheers my brotha!:high-five:

Hey major great job getting these back on track, looking much better :high-five: I have a feeling for some reason your soil never finished cooking, its the only thing I can think of.

Remember you don't want them to go completely dry now that you have started flowering them. If they haven't had any GE for a while I would give them a normal strength GE drench plus 25% Transplant mixed in and then do a pure Transplant drench in a week to week and a half and then back to the GE next time and so on until CD time. :thumb:

Have a good night bud :passitleft:

@ duggan & Smokey-
You guys both nailed it. I agree with what you said and that is my plan.
I believe/hope they are still filling the pots with roots and might still grow once they've done it.
I am giving them one each of 1/2 strength foliars each week.
I don't plan on trimming them up until I feel good about the above-soil growth.
I plan on GE for the next drench and I always use 1/4 Trans with each drench. That will happen in the next couple of days. The pots still won't be completely dry, but dry enough.

:ciao:

My light timing sucks in order to keep temperatures in line. By the time I'm up and at it, the lights are about to turn off. Then, by the time the lights are back on, I'm bagged. I need to spend more time with them either very early or late.

I grabbed a couple of quick pic's this morning as the lights were about to go out. They are petite but GASS are just beginning to show a little frost. I believe this is day 10 since I was able to sex them from the first pistils showing.

It appears GT(+) are going to be true-to-form and run many weeks longer. This is my first grow with such a Sativa-dominant strain. I hope I have time to finish them properly.

Have a great, green day, all! :circle-of-love:

major, you're running them at 12/12? or different?
whats your hopeful time of finishing?

Yep - 12/12.
I can be a little flexible in how much time I give them. Here is my planned timeline for the next round:
I want them outside about June 1st. To give them a good veg in 7 gal pots I'd like to start seeds in the next week, or so. I think I have some clones I may use as well. If I start seeds in a week, I can easily keep them in cups for a month and 1 gal pots for another month. At that point, I'm out of room and will need to move them into the shower for veg in 7 gal. That puts me about 9-10 weeks out from now, or 11 weeks since the Tigers began flowering. I can hold them a little longer in 1 gal pots. I'm assuming the GT(+) are going to want 12 - 15 weeks. Does that sound about right?

yes...give or take a week or so on that light schedule. Even 1/2 hr less may take more time off the final time. :)

yep. you could even work it down to 10 on / 14 off. this is usually what i do with my long sativas. at week 10 of 12/12 i drop 1/2 a week. never had anything take longer than 14 weeks.

Thanks guys.
I'm going to keep them at 12/12 for a while to see if I can coax a little more out of the GASS. In a few weeks, once they are farther along, I'll drop the lights-on down to 11/13 or 10/14 to finish. That should give the GT(+) 6 - 8 weeks with the reduced light schedule.

Great save on those plants, young man.

Did you containerize that "hill" of soil you had, or tarp it?

:thanks:
Neither. :thedoubletake: :loopy:
I used some of it to make a batch of amendment for summer's raised beds or pots. The rest is still sitting there. My plan is to let it hang out until needed. As I plant and up-pot, I grab more, mix it with my amendment and let it cook for a while. I have enough cooking now to get me through germination and the 1 gallon pots. I'll be mixing more soon to cover the 7 gal pots. I'd mix it all but I'm still experimenting with it and want to test it on a few plants before I commit to the entire amount. I need to wait until mid-February to do my first test.

I just dropped my light to 9 1/2 hours on for my Tikal since it's so close to the lights. I might drop it another thirty min next week depending on how she looks.

I promise your GTs are not done growing yet :MoreNutes:
