First Ever Closet Grow Using a 300 Watt CFL - a Bit of Skill and a Lot of Luck!

Re: First ever closet grow using a 300 watt CFL, a bit of skill and a lot of luck!

if you are showing 2 or 3 sets of leaves then yes give her some food, but start lite maybe 1/4 or 1/2 strength and see how they like it:)

Thanks fishcake, nice to see your still following my grow. It's reassuring :)
Could you explain what 1/4 strength actually means because i don't really understand dude.

Pretty sure the white marks are from minerals in the water, like limescale in your kettle, I think chlorine is dispersed as a gas(?)`They look good and healthy and so full of future delight:thumb:

Ah right! That makes sense mate. I am getting a water filter and TDS meter soon so hopefully i can stop it happening. I hope it isn't causing them any harm :(
That's great news to hear, i was thinking they were looking a bit odd shape and colour?!

I don't know why my last three posts were removed or if they just didn't appear but to say again what i already said which was, thanks for that reassurance; I though they looked an odd shape and colour but if you say they look fine i'll go with that.

Hey thought id give you my 2 cents on everything, The white on the leaves (from my experience) will be 1 of 2 things, either calcium build up on the leaves or beginning signs of thripes. If you can find an 8X or higher jewelers loupe or microscope then you can clarify if you have thripes or not, youll see very small grub like larvae crawling around.

I'd also recomend fallowing fish cake's suggestion of starting with 1/2 to 1/4 strength nutes.

good luck with your grow, i'll be around trying my best to help. :high-five:

Thank you Delocated420 i will certainly be buying one of those. Can you please explain to me what you mean EXACTLY by 1/2, 1/4 nutes. How much is this in millilitres if i am using 100ml of water when watering

Re: First ever closet grow using a 300 watt CFL, a bit of skill and a lot of luck!

if you were to mix your nutes by directions on the mfgr recomendations, say it called for a tablespoon per gallon of water then you would only add just a little less then a teaspoon full to a gallon and so on:) if you dont know how much to use go to the FAQs and check out the nutes and how to use them thread. I am pretty sure there is a guide in there with your brand of nutes recomendations. hope that helps:)

Re: First ever closet grow using a 300 watt CFL, a bit of skill and a lot of luck!

Hi everyone, just a quick update. I'm getting really into this now. I've NEVER had any type of hobby that i have stuck to so i think i have found my calling in life, lol.
Just checked my babies, the second one has sprouted and has started to stand proud :)
I though what the hell and germinated another 3 seeds because i was worried that the 2 that i planted were knackered (how wrong i was), they look very happy!

Response to the pics not being available, i believe they have to be verified before able to be viewed publicly, so seeing as i only uploaded them today i guess they will be view-able tomorrow???! I don't know.
Much love guys, peace out for today.

Oh yeah i forgot to ask, i am having trouble keeping the humidity between 50 and 60%, seems to peak at 49 :(
Help please.
I have tried adding a bowl of hot water to the room, turned fan off, moved fan, opened door, everything and nothings working, should i be worried?
Cheers guys.
hey newbiedude :welcome: to:420::) you can hang a large wet bath towel behind your fan to bring the humidity up until your girls start creating they're own humidity I do it in my veg room all the time it works great and doesnt cost a dime.I just keep a bucket of water in there and soak the towel a couple times a day.im subbed:goodluck:

Hey fishcake thanks for your post, i still do not know how much fert to use. I'm using biobizz and the schedule on the FAQ's page says 1tsp of grow for week 1, so if i am to use half of that dosage as the plants are still only very small; how much grow do i need to add to 300mls of water that i use for my 3 plants?? I don't understand why i would want to mix a gallon of water when i'm only going to be using 300ml, unless that is what i have to do? Please try to explain, many thanks.

Hey jon thanks for your post, i have started spraying water around the room every half hour or so and that seems to work very nicely but thanks for your suggestion and i hope you enjoy following my thread. :thumb::high-five:

Re: First ever closet grow using a 300 watt CFL, a bit of skill and a lot of luck!

well I am not real good with the metric system, I would say that all you need to do is the math. or mix a a gallon and store it in a dark cool place maybe the fridge till you need some more.:)I am guessing that 300mls is near a pint so you would need 1/8tsp for a pint at full strength then half that or quarter it. maybe someone will chime in with proper ratios.

300ml is equivalent to .68US pints, divide the dosage for a gallon by 8 (change to pints) so you need .085 of the gallon dosage.
½ a teaspoon dose needs multiplying by 0.085, so you need 0.0425 of a teaspoon.

I think this is why it is suggested you make a gallon at a time, or you could dissolve a measured ½ teaspoon in 100ml and use a syringe to measure 4.25ml to add to your 300ml of water.

I dilute all my Nutes with 6l water and keep a bubbler in it to keep it ‘fresh’, not sure this is ideal but it is working for me as far as I’m aware.

Hope the Maths is correct and good luck:goodluck:

Re: First ever closet grow using a 300 watt CFL, a bit of skill and a lot of luck!

Hi guys just a quick update. I have took the plunge and used a very small amount of grow nute for the 2 biggest plants. The third one doesn't look like she needs any just yet. I used just 3 drops per 300mls of water, used 100mls of the water/nute solution on the biggest plant, 50mls of nute solution plus 50mls of plain ph'ed water on the second biggest and on the third baby just 100mls of ph'ed water. Let's see what tomorrow brings :) happy growing.

Re: First ever closet grow using a 300 watt CFL, a bit of skill and a lot of luck!

Hey guys, I've just realised what "subbed" means, lol. I'm just posting a pic to show you all the improved growth of my 3 babies.
Check out the little guy, it's second set of leaves have doubled in size since I DROPPED IT! I tell you what i nearly cried seeing it rolling around the floor, soil everywhere and stuff. Now it's looking really healthy and i'm really proud. The other 2 larger ones have also started showing their 3rd and 4th set of leaves if i'm not mistaken. Looking good although I still think the leaves look "droopy". Peace guys, thanks for subscribing.
