Fanleaf's Huge 42 COB Array Build Plus Other Builds

Check Digikey U.K. For Vero prices and Cutter electronics in Australia too. Cutter carries Cree, citi and Vero as well as the 1700k meatchip in the Vero 29 platform.
I have 2-3 weeks of flower left before harvest. I'm running the 1700k chips alone for the last 3 weeks. Gonna see if those deep reds (650-670nm)cause the buds to explode. As far as I know I'm the first person to PAR test these chips on YouTube in real world applications.

I might just stop trying to do things the easy way and do as you suggest and install the Meanwell HLG's. I just wish i had have read this thread before i bought these and i probably would have tried to build a little one from scratch with the better equipment, having the extra £230 in my pocket.

I will probably install 2 Vero's into each of the lights i have, would 2 vero's be better than a mars reflector series ? Im gonna take a guess and say well better ?

I will take a look at the video on the last page. :thumb: :420:

Hey jimmie , did get frame finished

Is there any way to give good rep. to someone on here ?

I really do apreciate your help and advice Jimmy, Thank you very much. Will take a look at your Youtube page now.

:thanks:

lol just had a quick look and relised i was on watching your videos on youtube last night without knowing it was yours, through just searching COB grow lights :D

They make a Vero 29 in the 1700k as well. It's 2.5x more powerful.
I've ordered 50 but manufacturer wait time is 6 weeks. But the good news is, they're made at the Bridgelux plant in California. 100% US made.

You could put 2 Vero 29 C series 68v in that case of yours. Not sure how the driver's will hold up over time. But if the driver's fail you can easily replace with a HLG-185h-C1400. That will drive 2 C class Vero's at 100w each.
Need cooling though. Got a shot of the inside of the case?

Sorry for the long response time, i have just been watching Phil Hellmuth blow-ups on youtube hahaha never get tired of watching them hahaha.

:O wow 2.5 times stronger than 916 PAR 12" (as in your video) :O thats unreal, haha and your looking to buy 50 of them hahahah, your my kind of guy haha your buds are gonna love you. Dont know if it works that way but that wud be around 2760 PAR at 12", surely thats more than a 600W HPS and probably even more than a 1000W, looks like the future is certainly all about COB's and HPS will soon be a thing of the past, i enjoy and apreciate your help its amazing. You should think about making them and selling them on ebay or somewhere before China starts making them and says they are the superior craftsmen haha.

To tell you the truth i would be more than happy with the Vero 18's for now just so i can replace these crappy ones i have now and get them hanging, then in 6 weeks or so when the 29's are available i will hopefully be ready to build one from scratch and will use the 29's, i still cant believe how good these COB lights can be and for a fraction of the electricity costs of HPS. Im going to order the 4 Vero's tomorrow for my 2 lights i bought, and will keep you updated how things are going.

I have the pics of the inside of them on my phone but not sure how to upload onto here (im not usually this braindead) i will have a look how to do it now and get them uploaded. Thanks again my mate. (dont mean to keep saying thanks all the time but i really am excited about what you have told me and thought i would just have to throw them crappy lights away, now iv found out it will probably all work out better in the end anyway so am feeling a lot more positive about it all than i was yesterday) :high-five:

It wouldn't be 2760 micromoles of par. It would be an even 900-1400 micromoles across the whole canopy. My testing with six Vero 18 1700k shows one thing so far....you need 10 to 12 v18 COBs to get full coverage in a 2x4 tent. I'm still running tests and making a video. I'll likely buy 6 more "meatchips" and test the tent again by Wednesday. I'll order 6 BXRC-17E-4000-D chips from future electronics. They are considerably healer than Digikey. The good news with the Vero 18 is that you can run them hot. Up to 2 x the nominal drive current up to 105°C

A side note on Sodim based lighting.
Did you know that the sodium bulb was invented in 1932? And that the first High pressure sodium bulb was invented in 1967?

I was growing in the 80s under 1000w metal halides and hps was pretty new. I became aware of it from ads in high times, but it was spendier and unknown so we stuck with MH.

We coulda been cultivation gods with what we know now.

I will probably only be using the 2 lights (4 COB's) for veg might stick my mars reflector in there with them as well, so should be enough for what they will be used for, as i say as long as its better than the way they are now i'l be happy. In a few weeks time i will try to build a proper light with the Vero's 18 & 29's and a few Cree's too, for flowering.

I like the Digikey site you recommend, but they have such a huge selection of chips. Which ones (18's) would you suggest would be best for vegging, that would be ok going on to my cheapo light ? Im going to order them as soon as i get the go ahead from my light sensei (lol) on which ones are best for vegging :D

I have often wondered why these lights that have been around for so long and use so much energy (electricity) have not been replaced by something better and more efficient, but i suppose we are finally getting to that point now with COB's, i can only imagine what will take over COB's in the next 10 years :O

I had a feeling sodium and HPS bulbs had been around for a long time but didnt think it would be almost 100 years hahaha. Hopefully soon they will be like the original video VHS cassettes just a distant memory lol

Lol. Here's my video on the BXRC-17E-4000-F chip.
I'll order more chips and do a follow up video in a few weeks at harvest. Testing horticultural stuff takes forever. I need 7 more tents. Lol.

Hahahaha great video and some nice buds in that tent, seems as though they are all proper cola type buds and no straggle popcorn type buds, was they flowered under that one light the whole way ? impressed indeed.
And if i ever doesn't work out for you in the growing/light building business, you could always go into the film making/short movie producing industry hahaha, your a natural, looking forward to the next in the series :D

Just relised as well you said you have a few weeks left to go until harvest, so they still have quite a bit of bulk to put on, just by looking at that video seems like they are going to be some heavy tight cola's :thumb:
