Fanleaf's Huge 42 COB Array Build Plus Other Builds

Look at your car, that's a hundred year old tech, combustible engine.

Very true. If that is right and engines haven't changed at all since then thats crazy, just goes to show people were just as clever all that long ago, and they didn't even have the technology of today either. Strange little fact that though, maybe something to do with them still wanting us to run our engines on petrol/gas, if they invent new technology our cars might be running on water or another free energy source, imagine how many billions that would lose in profits.

The combustible engine is basically the same. There are some batteries that can run a car for 1000 miles. Problem is the oil companies buy up the patents. If we invented a new battery, it would never see the light of day, exxon mobile would give us mega dollars to buy the patent. Its a shame that the oil and pharmaceutical companies control the everything. That's why there will never be a cure for cancer or aids, no money in cure, the money is in treatment

Hundred percent agree mate, and its sickening. The real medicine growers are being jailed while the real drug dealers are making legal billions. How we as people allow these criminals to rule over us and control everything we do is insane :(

I will probably only be using the 2 lights (4 COB's) for veg might stick my mars reflector in there with them as well, so should be enough for what they will be used for, as i say as long as its better than the way they are now i'l be happy. In a few weeks time i will try to build a proper light with the Vero's 18 & 29's and a few Cree's too, for flowering.

I like the Digikey site you recommend, but they have such a huge selection of chips. Which ones (18's) would you suggest would be best for vegging, that would be ok going on to my cheapo light ? Im going to order them as soon as i get the go ahead from my light sensei (lol) on which ones are best for vegging :D

:thumb:

For vegging the best chips are in the 4000-5000k. The 4000k is the most popular in the Vero29. Its spectrum leans a little to the red so it's good for both veg and flower. My entire Grow was done under 4000k Vero 29's. (Except for some various light testing where other lights were briefly used).
The BXRC-40E-10K0-D-73-SE is Vero's most popular Grow chip. It's a plug and play solderless connection too.

I bought 10 ac 20A displays month ago, I used 5, I grabbed another and it turned out to be a 100a. Turns out they sent 3 100a instead of 20. It doesn't matter, but I wasn't planning on mounting a separate ct. Debating on using, I only need 1 more to finish build, it's dimensions are same just an outside ct(current transformer), instead of internal

Im learnin, im learnin :D

Ok. Looking at your pictures I would recommend two Vero 29's C series.
The product number is
BXRC-40E-10K0-C-73-SE.
These are the 70v chips that run around 100w each. They are insanely bright. But, because your driver's are limited to only 700ma you will be running these chips at 50w each and around 8000 lumens per COB. Still...much better than the crappy Epistar chips that are in there now. If you don't like the drivers or the drivers fail you can remove them and install a single HLG-185H-1400 that will run both chips at 100w or 13,000 lumens each.
To install simply cut the red and black wires at the old chips. Tin the tips of the wires or add a short 20 gauge pigtail (recommended) and use the poke-in connectors on the SE. The whole installation can be done in under 20 minutes and should cost 50£ for both chips. When you order the chips don't forget to order some TIM pads(Thermal interface material), also from digikey or future electronics. The chips are much cheaper at future electronics but I'm not sure if they have offices in the U.K.
My only question is ...do you have a dimmer on that light?

Thanks mate. Made up to know i can get the 29's now, my plants are gonna lurrrrvv me :D
Great step by step instructions how to do it to, even i should be able to follow them.

I was just about to complete my order on digikey literally minutes ago, but came back here first before i completed the purchase. I got up to the point where it was asking me what am i using them for and is it a personal order or business lol. Good job something stopped me before i put my card number in, now i will go back and order the 29's and the thermal pads.

I dont have a dimmer on the light, i was thinking jus to use them at full power all the time, or is that a no-no ?

Full power is fine. It's a very low 700ma so you'll be diving the chips at less than half the test current and exactly half the recommended current (1400ma)
Plus. Those drivers will probably fail within the year. The HLG driver has 3 in 1 dimming. You just need a 100k linear potentiometer and to drill a hole in the case somewhere.
Easy.

If they last me a year i will be satisfied, these will hopefully be temporary. If i didnt have these 2 ebay lights i would just start from scratch and try my luck at building a light, but i mite as well put these ones to some use and if they only last a year then i suppose they did ok, plus i learned a lesson about buying lights on ebay, and also the most important thing out of buying them cheap lights, it brought me to this thread with has given me invaluable information and knowledge.

Also the white surround of the current cob's on the light now measure at 39mm x 39mm and the vero 29's are 49mm. Will this be a problem ?

I actually tried to message you. Your messaging is set to "don't accept".
Yes. That will be a problem. You can either drill them out to fit or order some ledil vero 29 holders from digikey. Digikey part number 711-1307-ND. I know a guy in the UK that sells the ledil Angelina reflectors that fit that cob holder. That is...if the widening of the existing reflectors doesn't work in your favour.

Dont understand why you wasnt able to message me, my "visitor messages" are set to on (accept), i will check againt to check why that is.
Dont think it will be a problem to widen the reflectors, or just leave them off ?!

[Edit] just seen your above post. Them reflectors would be a great idea too.
