Conradino23 Keeps On Keeping On Outdoor & Indoor Using LOS/High Brix Methods

I hear similar smells are present in GG4. I grew out Show and Tell from Annunaki, which is a GG4 cross, and it smells horrible! It seriously smells like shit while growing. Once it is dried it isnt as bad but it smelt horrible throughout flower. According to Alphakronik these sorts of smells come from thiols instead of terpenes. Here is a short write up they have for one of their strains:

The Darkside Series by Alphakronik Genes is an expression of what is possible when breeding for extreme Thiol production and heavy Terpenes. Thiols are the contrasting flavonoid found within the Cannabis species that makes up the stinky smells throughout nature. Garlic, Fuel, Skunk, Gas, Onion, and Feces smells all come from Thiols rather than Terpenes. Thiols are a carbon chain with a sulfur atom connected at the end of the chain rather than an oxygen atom as found in Terpenes. They are used in the Cannabis plant to attract bugs to catch in their sticky traps (trichomes). They then use drop the dead prey to the ground and use the symbiotic relationship with the soil to feed itself. Alphakronik Genes is proud to be the first breeding team in the world to focus on such focused research, and are now proud to introduce a series dedicated to the “stink” factor found within Cannabis, and are working to develop new research models to advance scientific discoveries throughout the Cannabis genome.

This is extremely interesting info! From what I managed to research thiols would be an effect of a breakdown of alpha-linolenic acid, which cannabis produces during all stages of growth and puts it mostly in seeds. It's a source of omega-3. Thiols are volatile and they have a very strong odour. Very little info about how cannabis produces them though, but I found sth like that on Reddit:

Cannabis contains alpha-Linolenic acid. alpha-Linolenic acid, when exposed to ultraviolet light (think, the sun), breaks down into methyl and butyl thiols, which, surprise, surprise, also exist in the mixture of chemicals produced by the skunk's anal scent gland.

Could be the thing!

I smoked some SSSDH and it's a nice, heady smoke, but with a fair dose of indica. A creeper too :smokin:

Geeze Louise!...you guy's never fail to amaze me with your strain research/knowledge!...:hmmmm:...:thumb:
i know, right? :thumb::love:
Hmm I'm thinking about developing coffee strain in the future. That'd rip the market I suppose :passitleft:
I’m thinking it would. So this cross I’ve just grown out that my mate who made it assures me is Golden Tiger x Northern Lights (not sure which NL), has had a coffee aroma going on all through the last half of flower, and it’s continuing through cure (so far but only a week in). It also has tones of chocolate along with other things. It has an element that I don’t like mixed in with all of that though and I can’t place it. It’s so weird - I keep smelling it and going, ‘mmm coffee, chocolate, bit fuely, and something... awful...’ and then I smell it again and again trying to identify the part I don’t like  ... “aw that’s awful, let me smell it again!” Honestly. I mean it also smells really good... so it’;s a weird circumstance. I mostly bring it up because of the overwhelming coffee thing Conradino. Even folks who’ve been here who do not consume cannabis have smelled it and said “hey - this one smells like coffee!”

Pure guava in the smoke. I finally figured that Taste out! Great stuff.
... maybe it’s guava... I’m going to have to find some to smell so I can see.

There is an overwhelmingly sweet scent to the Money Bush I just grew out. It’s a cross of Afghani x Critical Mass so that’s Skunk 1 as well yes? Honestly the stuff smells like cherry or strawberry cola flavoured bubblegum dipped in petrol. And it’s super super strong - I made some topical oil with it and the oil has this beautiful sweet aroma all on its own. It’s a pretty killer smoke too - knocked me right on my arse! It certainly doesn’t smell like shit. It’s dank and its the most powerfully scented cannabis I’ve ever encountered (even after 2 week cure), but it’s certainly not unpleasant. :) It’s friggin amazing actually!

I’m wanting to try some garlic weed, would be different anyway.
Is that a sign you’ve been at this for too long PW?

Strawberry cola dipped in petrol sounds pretty good :) Critical Mass is a reworked version of Big Bud, so Skunk #1 x Afghani. It's Neville's genetics. And if it's crossed to Afghani again, then it must be a thumper :)

It is pretty good actually. :thumb: It was a freebie and I didn’t know much at the time I got it (ok so I knew almost nothing about ‘strains’) and I was kind of ‘meh’ based on the write up, which is all about money and yield etc. so I didn’t like it’s vibe (man). I planted it to test out a spot really, thinking that what ever I got would be just a nice bonus. But then Radogast pointed me to the details of the genetics and I understood a little better. I’m even thinking about trying to get some more seeds for it because the topical I made from some of it is great for pain! It was almost sickly sweet during the last 2 weeks of flower.

Plants are all looking great C! Nice to see you’re able to give them some sun as well. Must be weird making the transition. SO much to set up! I expect that having a controlled environment is a real plus for the indoor grow though - once it’s ‘dialed in’ (as they say). How are you enjoying it?

:Namaste:

Hey Conrad, I just received my Blueberry F4-F5 bred by DJ Short at Old World Genetics. I got a 5 Bean freebie bred by his son JD. the new cross is XBJ16 (Spacedawg x Blueberry F4) pretty excited! the XBJ16 is a Tester/Promo he did.

Im glad you got your order! The XBJ16 is a promo both old world and second generations have been running for a while. It sounds like an awesome cross. I have to wonder why they seem to be giving them all away. If you run them I would be interested in seeing how they come out. A buddy hooked me up with one of the promo packs of them.

Plants and garden look fantastic Conradino! Question for you on that sunny spot plant. How often do you have to water it and how much do you generally give it? Curious about the differences when they are in the ground. I am wanting to find a couple spots within a few miles of my place and do some guerilla grows. Any info is appreciated.

nice update you got a lot going on there getting ready with your vegetable garden to,me too your plants are looking good that outside auto is growing the way a lot of the ones I grow do kinda of straight up,you have your own bamboo stock to that's nice your set up there looks nice and comfortable have a good one man!

Yeah totally different from my indoor autos. They show mostly ruderalis traits and they both look very similar. I'm thinking if it's enough proof to drop the idea of growing them outdoor. I'm expecting to get 5 gs from a plant :)

Now they're growing without any extra help. But if you want a harvest you need to look after them obviously. Watering and fertilisation depends on your climate. In a rainy one like mine I used to start in July. I worked the soil in February and I fertilised 3-4 times throughout the season.

wow 5 grams that's even less than my 7 gram all time low for an auto,if you want to grow them in the ground and want them to get bigger theres the super autos they get big and take longer to but they would still be done before foul weather,i generally get 1/2-1 oz per plant sometimes those little 20inchers can have an oz of bud on them when you get lucky lol,btw I think most of them look very similar most of them have that rudarelis in em most of my auto buds are leafy!:)
