Cerdito's Soil Autocheese Closet Grow

Hey Hey and Good Morning,

All is good - well, it is at this very moment, who know what it will be in the next moment.

I am very stupid. Heat rises.

I was attempting to partition my wardrobe so that I didn't use all of it for 2 plants and I got more value from my light - but I kept using the top half, and blocking off the bottom half.

What I have done this morning, is open the bottom half, and hang the light on ropes, so it is all in the bottom of the closet where the cold air comes in, and the heat rises to the top and goes out of the fan without cooking my plants!

Like I said, very sometimes stupid!

Now I have the light 8 inches vertical over my plants, this makes it around 9-10 inches on diagonal from each one - which according to King John's diagram, means that I am getting 100% tropical sun, and around 13-15000 lumens, which I think is happy good and it means I am keeping the plant temperature at 82-85.

I can get below 80 if I move the light back to 12-14 inches - but that halves my lumens to 8000ish - which is the best compromise in your opinions? Slightly higher than ideal temp, or slightly further than ideal light?

Here are the pics of how I rigged my light - if you are easily offended by DIY, or have perfectionist traits - look away now.

the light from above, over the plants nicely.

When I first put it in - this is about 13 inches high here - I can go a bit closer with the door open

ggg_012.JPG

The rope and wire on the hanger - I have made it now so there are three loops of wire so if one breaks - there is always a safe back to take it - and I will check them regular.

ggg_007.JPG

The rope, wrapped and knotted around the clothes rail in the cupboard, so I can rotate it up and down - and you can see in other pic it goes down to nail in the side of the wood so I can double tie it off for safety - I don't want crashed plants!

ggg_013.JPG

I have also sealed some holes better, using compost bags from the planting - it will not be good enough for doing photostrains, I will need to make a new cabinet with no light leaking for that.

ggg_004.JPG

Better seals everywhere for vacuum for sucking air - that is bags and bubble paper stuffed into gaps around fan (I only have a straight wood saw and a hammer, so things aren't straight and nice and good.

And sides taped for vacuum pressure

And the plants!

Do you think they look normal for 8 days from seed? Some people seem to have monsters by now - this is 10 percent of the total grow time already!

Thanks, xx

Lots of growth today, Iļl get pics up shortly.

One thing, my little ladies seem to be very stunted comparing to others. I'm getting spread, but no height - is this because I have sat the light literally right on top of them?

They seem to be very happy, and still quite damp below the soil - even though the light and fan seem to have been on them for days and they weren't that wet to start with - I've not watered them since transplant on day 6 - and it is day 10 now. Or is it 11? Either way, I was thinking of hitting them with some water and a little snifter of lovely urine this everning to give them a treat.

Things get freaky in the --l--nov household - this is how we rock out in the evenings, with a little bit of an after apple crumble cooking urine feed.

xx

Im glad ive visited your journal as I'm pretty much at the same time and size!
Im worried as hell but I've got my fingers crossed for some raid growth in the next weeks!
Subd and reps!

Can't wait for the pics!

Me too, fingers and toes is crossed all together!

I was doing long term planning today - it is meant to be heavy snow this week - so before snow comes I went out and dug and manured and composted my plot for the summer season ;)

No harm in being prepared. I am like a boy scout. Summers are short here though, so needs a glasshouse first, but I should finish this grow first :d

xx

So here are the pics showing where we are at Day 10 from seed.

There is a bit of a difference in the two - but the major difference I see with other people''s plants is they are SHORT!

Wide but short.

There we go, Day 10, only 50 or 60 more to go :d

They look nice and healthy to me, I'm no expert but i can tell when a plant isn't doing good thats for sure.
mine are also short its a good thing from what I've learned, plants are taller at this stage due to stretching.
your plants should just grow short and busy like mine i hope!

No ma'am you don't have to go topless, lol, I'm here, and the other subscribers are lurking, I'm sure. Since you have already done it, I hope all is well with these autos, but usually transplanting autos is not a good idea. Most experienced auto growers will plant the seed directly into it's final container, to avoid potential shock from the transplant, this may be why the babies are growing slowly. As for the temps, my first grow was autos, and I had similar issues with temps rising to close to triple digits. My grow turned out okay, really disappointing yields, and one hermie. I think you will be fine, one of my mistakes was waiting until flower to start a journal, so you took a good step there!I've seen you around the site a little, and I applaud you for that, and for sharing your grow with us!
What does a girl have to do to spark up some interest around here? Do I need to resort to topless gardening?

x

Btw short or tall plants are pretty much just a personal preference so if you want slight taller plants you can just simply raise your light a little bit ...

I'm not known to the strain but if its an Auto I'm pretty sure they'll grow VERY fast ... Hold on a while and they'll get taller my friend :)

your seedlings look typical for 10 days, they should grow faster with the light lowered. there is an easy way to place your light above your plants at the right level. place your hand underneath the light bulb and move it tot he point you can not feel any heat from the light and move it above the plants at that level, raise the light as your plants grow. I use aluminum foil duct tape commonly found in the heating and cooling section of home improvement stores to seal my cabinets.

Thanks Mr Danklover, it is a pleasure to share with you - we have nobody here we can share it with and we are like proud parents who want to talk to everyone about it! Not sure what people down the market would think about our new hobby.

Interestingly though, a lot of old people here grow it for eating - you can even buy in the supermarket Cannabutter that has no THC in. Ruderalis grows wild quite a lot, and if you are lucky in summer you can find some on the side of the road - not high quality - but it is possible. After all, I believe Ruduralis is innate to the Baltic countries. Near Riga and Talinn there are official farms where people grow eating plants but you need a special license.

I know (now) I shouldn't have used little pots to start, but we live and we learn! I saw alot of conflicting info about pots, but my choice came down to the simple fact I wanted to get them in the dirt immediately and I didn't have enough potting soil for my big ones! Impatience - not a virtue :)

Thanks John, I've seen how you grow, so your advice and interest is definitely valued. I am using regular ducting taping (100 mph tape they call it in England.) But I have plans to make a big cabinet for the other room, which I can properly light seal. I will blog that too because I think it will be (ghetto) interesting. We don't have proper 2 by 4 kind of wood, me and the boyf will have to cut everything from trees to make it - so it could be a little different to most peoples. This is only our first dangle toe into trying growing - the net grow should be a little more proffessional - this is a learning exsperience (why I though the Autofems were a good idea - more forgiving for our retardenness.)

And thanks for the reps! I am not quite sure what they are, but I know they are good and I know they are my first ones, so I am a very happy piglet.

Thanks

Oh, and I have a thermometer on the cupboard door, with a long wire that goes inside (it is meant to be out of a window for outside temps) which is measuring temp at exactly the leaf level.

It goes up and down, and I think because it is a black wire, it reads a bit higher than real temp - I try your method, and at 12 inches with my fan over the plants, there is almost no feelable heat on the back of my hand. So although guage reads over 80, I am happy that the plants are happy - they isn't curling or yellowing, so I think they like the light as low as it is - and I see more growth now. They are not strethcing, so all seems good.

Good to see there is some interest in the topless gardening, I had faith in the red blood men of the fourtwenty world. May have to make some kind of wager, if I am helped to get an ounce a plant......? Lol

Hi Cerdito,
Looking mighty fine, they start off slow and will soon explode into growth for you I'm sure. Well done with the wardrobe setup. I would not worry about the light being super close at this stage, when your flowering, the light can be used to its full potential, but they are only young veglings at the moment and a cooler temperature is more important than all that light. The plant can't absorb all that light yet anyway as it has tiny leaves and most of the light is falling on the soil surface drying it out.
You say you have a cooler room next door, can you maybe suck the cooler air in from that room or vent the warm air into it, that would considerably lower your heat problem.
Good luck with the grow, I'm sure people will soon find your journal. It helps if you put a link to your grow in your signature, that way everytime you post a comment somewhere on the site everyone can see you have a journal and easily find it to take a look.

Thanks for the advice Mr Dutch Dragon (I love Holland - I worked in Delft and Veenhuizen for a few months each and really got to like people and country)

If there was a very much like button I would press it. I have now moved my lights back up to 14 inches (ish) and the temp sits at a lovely 75. I did wonder with very little leaves if there was a need to have big 250 strength right on their heads.

Iļl put the link in thanks! Good idea. I am venting air from under the outside door, which is very chilly!

Thanks x

And hello back Mr Pepper!

thanks for the ''hi''

It is much appreciated.

I have no action on my thread today, because I am letting my ladies do their thing for a day, while this lady does her thing and gets nicely drunk :)

I may have had no action with the little ladies, but I almost posted a picture of some rye dough pizza I made earlier, after you started posting food porn.

Thankyou Mother Russia. We are a nation of drunks.
