Boo’s Perpetual Grow Journal

Happy Friday! Need to go check on the girls but wanted to get a question written down before I forget.

@InTheShed - I’m preparing my ingredients for my first salve making Using your recipe/directions. :cheesygrinsmiley:
There are a couple of points I would like to clarify to ensure I have my shite together.
I ended up with 25g beeswax/cup of oil, but I might go with 30g/cup for slightly stiffer product at room
The quote above is from your May 2019 demo showing how you make salve.
Which means that either the infusion process itself or the LSL lowers the temperature at which it becomes solid again. That might explain why my salve needs more beeswax than I thought to make it stable at room temps. I think it took 100 grams/cup total when I remixed it last time.
The quote above is from earlier this week when you showed us how to make oil in the oven. I don’t see the LSL listed as part of the salve recipe so I’m assuming you mean that the infusion process wrt the salve making lowers the temperature at which it becomes stable at room temps. Correct? Which is the best/correct ratio of beeswax/oil? I do want my salve to be room temperature solid and I plan to put it in 2-4 ounce round tins. :thanks:

She was born on July 25th and has been in flower for 7 1/2 weeks. I took her top a few days ago. Hope all are having a great Friday leading into a great Fall weekend! :ciao:

Correct. When I did the original salve I went with 25g of beeswax/8oz of oil, but those needed to stay in the fridge when not in use. For regular "room temperature" (which I think is 72º) I'd go with 100g/8oz. In warmer weather that will still probably get soft, but that would be okay in a tin.

As I mentioned, this would be using coconut oil that is solid at room temps. If you're going with something liquid at room temps it would need more wax.

Gotcha! I do have an 84 oz container of coconut oil that is solid at room temps along with 2 pounds of beeswax:

I'm thinking I could melt the oil first and then add the grappa-like ingredients to it to ensure I've got a good ratio of oil to dried stuff.? Then cook it down like you describe, and after all the pressing see how much oil I have vs beeswax and mix accordingly? I still need the containers, so I'm just getting prepared! Sound like a plan so far? :thanks:

That will work. Keep in mind the the oil covers more as the ingredients absorb it, as you can see from my progression pics.

I would make the oil the standard way, measure it, and add any grams of beeswax you like. Then pour it in a jar and let it cool overnight. If it needs more beeswax, you can just heat it in the microwave and melt in a measured amount of additional wax until you get the room-temp consistency you're happy with.

Whatever you're using, make sure it's completely dry, as any water in the final mix will be a pain to have to remove.

That's an impressive record Shed! Great Job! Just hit me up if you are ready for a next run!
I quoted this from your journal and didn’t want to delete it..... sounds like you’ve got an “open invitation” for more seeds. Did you buy them or are you doing a sponsored grow? (Sorry for not knowing!)
Time to milk the cows soon.

Yes! I won’t scrimp, just want to try to get the ratios right of oil to dried goods and then figure out the beeswax at the second half.

Yes. I think we are on the same page!

Using - like the crockpot, mixing bowl, jars, etc. correct? THANK YOU! I’m excited to do this.

Sorry, laughing at the BrownChickenBrownCow reply!

They offered me the original seeds as a sponsored grow, so I always made sure to mention them and link to their site in return. That did sound like an open invitation but I haven't followed up as I have no idea what to grow for the spring. It seems like years away!

Sounds like you have this covered! Use as much as you can possibly fit in the crock pot under the oil. The more the material, the stronger the salve. Worst case scenario you can pick up another jar of coconut oil locally.

Not sure many people get that... :laughtwo:

oooooh! I was planning to make Weedseedsexpress my next seed purchase so I’m going to bug you with suggestions all winter! :high-five:

Cool! I think I will go ahead and pickup another container of the coconut - I ordered the one I have Thru Amazon and turns out it’s a Kirkland brand. I think a I could have gotten it for about $10 cheaper at Costco (if it is in stock at mine!).

Segue into another, but related topic. From what I’m understanding, in order to make pain oil or gummies, I need to use ground up bud that is decarbed. From there, I can either go pain oil or gummies but I should decide upon a carrier oil first - either Grape seed, Pumpkin, or coconut. Correct? And each carrier oil has different advantages based upon what I want to use it for in my end product. Does that sound halfway right? At the moment (and knock on wood) I don’t really need pain oil so I’m looking towards gummies and butter for the Big Momma C-99 harvest. :thanks:

They have great customer service and a friend of my son's has already ordered and received some autos from them. And from what I've seen here, the plants all seem to be solid producers.

I'm sure you can make gummies from coconut oil but I'm not sure if it changes the recipe. Coconut oil is very greasy and not well absorbed as a topical, so I think it's best to decide the end use of the coconut oil before you start. With grapeseed oil you can use it as both though. Only downside to grapeseed as an edible is the high is not as fast acting as coconut because of how coconut oil is processed by the liver.

This is the post I used for my gummies.
