Autos v. Photos - A 5x5 No Rules Fight for Yield: A Jon & NickHardy Gig

They don't blur for me anymore!

Its an old school spoiler alert from my poker days but nicer! Our hosts maybe watch us - the blurry looks awesome but the change is more impactful! 🙏🏼

Very cool.

Oh jeez 😂

Its like the time I told my Mum her iPhone X camera had a zoom function 🤣

It was like her 5th iphone and she was like, who knew? 🤷🏽

Everyone Mum! Everyone! 🤣
Still not me Boo!

Interesting, and yes, there is obvious anecdotal evidence to that end with every plant I grow. My girls tend to start “preparing for lights out” a long time before it happens. I believe it’s cuz at that point the light has become redundant. I’ve noticed this again and again. I’m going to try next time a lower ppfd flower in one tent as an experiment and try to adjust the light and hours until the plants pray from sunup to sundown. If they do that, I believe they are using all that light. As soon as the begin to droop they’re full. If I understand you correctly this should support your point, yes? My memory is terrible but someone here just recently asserted a lower flower ppfd and that anything over 800 is wasted. While I disagreed, it’s worth an experiment. All I had was anecdotal stuff to reply to him with, so an experiment is in order.
And there's me lowering ppfd to get mine to stop praying 🤦‍♂️ dawn till dusk they won't stop.. I was at 1500ppfd then 1300pfd and now under 1000ppfd.

They were like this.

I'm in the same boat! I think in terms of a lower high optimal and then work towards efficiency!

Less is more!
As with nutes I’m learning this too.

One exception is Co2 - having run it in hot air temps and cool. Normal lights (480w in 4x4) and extreme light (1000w in 4x4) there you need the light to get the yield benefit. But that’s not a typical home growers concern!

This is just one plant? I’ve had those phenos. I don’t even think its light related. One was a plant Shed described as “not even looking like s cannabis plant” or similar. Had two others and big, tall and ultra low yield.

Its worth remembering/trying to guess the light levels that the breeders grew under and did their pheno hunting under. They were choosing the best phenos under their light.

For the big breeders we all typically use Barney’s, Sweet Seeds, Serious Seeds. Blimburn, Herbies own brand, they all breed in greenhouses in Spain. Its worth bearing that in mind - your smaller batch breeders might be more under lights for their stuff, Anesia Seeds producing some ultra high THC strains I think are more indoor specific breeders.

But yeah that pray’y pray’y plant I just think is of a type and hope ai’m wrong but I’d be sighing I saw one like that.

Maybe. Not true in coco imo. In coco, feeding max all the time is the whole point. Otherwise just grow soil, it’s way easier and cheaper.

Hiya @NickHardy - hope your grow is going as you wish. You sure tweak like a madman, lol. Me, I just grow. I just do a whole bunch of simple, basic, growing shit. No magic whatsoever. Just the basics. I’m just half decent at the basics. And yeah, I don’t necessarily disagree on your LST vs not as it relates to yield. Personally I find that to be quite strain specific. You’ve seen I’ll train differently depending on the strain and what the plant does initially. One of the advantages of training as I do, where I basically do nothing until the fifth node is up, is obviously larger plants. But to this point, doing it that way allows you to read the plant at that point, and then decide what you think is best for that plant. The answer imo is not always a flat canopy.

However, for this grow, flat was the way to go. Here’s how I’m looking as the plants as a group are all not even at budlets yet! Amazing set of genetics I got this time. That’s where I tend to get lucky - genetics.

Remo girls are all on week 2 of flower, although my flower never changes with Remo. I’ve learned they prefer it if you never go to the 10 ml and stay at 8 the whole time. I no longer burn a plant with Remo for that reason.

The two Cyco girls are both insane and on week 2 of Cyco flower by the book, all advanced feed chart at this point. Cyco is amazing. These two are way bigger than the rest except maybe the beastly Trizkit. No blemishes. No curl. No burn. Amazing rate of growth. Huge perfectly green plants. What’s not to love?

Organics are rocking, and I don’t see any difference between the California Super Soil plants and the Jon Soil Mix plants. We’ll see what they do in flower, but all look super solid.

I put the second AC unit on and now am running both ACs with half ambient doorage. This keeps my rh in this super dense canopy at a mere 48%. With all my moving air, (4 oscillators on the corner from above, four more below the canopy in the corners, plus on big boy oscillator outside the tent blowing on the whole), I can easily live at that number. After I defol a bit in a week or so, the rh will come down a few more points. They’ll be fine. I even remembered to spread out the Cherry Pie so her colas are not all smashed together. All good in the jungle.

Too funny! No bs I was gonna post something on the exact same topic!

So yeah since my idiot sorry about lack of stretch they’re now at 10cm - 3” growrh in 3 days.

Noooow I can read the room.

In a couple of days I’ll had another layer of trellis and likely defol for the penultimate time. All about that light and yep my too soon on flip - just a bit panicky. It looks like yeah timed perfect.

I’m gonna get my 120cm manageable beauties.

The solo girls droopy, yes?

You have to water then 3-4 times a day. They missed their lunch. Get insta droopy.

Its not so much the pot size that controls their growth but the availability of food. In hydro/coco (in soil probably different) its just how often you feed them. They don’t need mega amounts - just more frequent amounts.
