Re: 4inch PVC Aero/NFT 4x5 SCROG (1200 Watts)
420fied just learning, is there any disadvantages to waiting another 2 weak and is there any upside to starting 12/12 right now. What is your thinking. I would like to learn what is the possible problems with either decision.. Sorry the more Knowledge is obtain know the less mistake I will make when I get my indoor up and running. Thanks again awesome grow...
Good question....
I've never scrogged with aero but I do know that this strain stretches 2 1/2x in soil so I expect a similar stretch here.
The screen is roughly 50% full right now. I wont be able to wait too much longer simply because the back end of my net is going to overgrow if I do.
Therefore, I'm guessing that by the end of the month, I'll flip them to 12/12.
If the net were ideally positioned I'd wait a little longer.
If I flip them on the last day of June that means they will have vegged for 51 days(7 weeks and change) from the time the first roots showed. Today is their 34th day in veg....which amazes me. They've grown so darn fast which I love.
At this point it's a waiting game..... but the timing is going to be critical for sure.
ANYWAYYYYYYY.... to answer your question..... obviously the downside to flipping your plants early will be that your screen doesnt fill out and your yield will suffer.
When I first started growing I tried to scrog and made this error.....
Then if you wait TOO long your plants will overgrow your screen and you have a real mess. An overgrown screen is very hard to manage and you have plants fighting for light. I'm going to push the edge with mine because I want
YIELD baby.
What you want is an even, well ventilated bed of buds. The beauty of the scrog is that all of your buds get the benefit of the light beaming down on them..... there's no popcorn bud....all colas...and every one of your colas will think it's at the top of the plant ....a nice extra. Get rid of the undergrowth a little at a time so that your plants can concentrate on making BUDS up top instead of providing food to those shaded leaves below the net.
You won't grow super large colas but there will be more yield per sqaure foot than any other method if done right.
I do not claim to be an expert but I believe that knowing when to flip your lights has a lot to do with your familiarity with the strain that you're growing and how it stretches.
Some guides you read will say to flip the lights as soon as the plants hit the screen but this is if you're going by the 1 plant per square foot rule... I'd have to have 20 plants since I have a 4x5 net... I only have 9 hence my longer veg cycle.
You'll read guides that tell you to flip your lights when your screen is anywhere from 40 to 80% full.
Personally, all variables being equal I lean towards the 60 -65% full crowd, but that's just me.
I certainly don't claim to be an expert but I'll try and answer as best I can.
