4inch PVC Aero/NFT 4x5 SCROG - 1200 Watts

Re: 4inch PVC Aero/NFT 4x5 SCROG (1200 Watts)

Looking good 420. When you trim all the underneath growth under the net did you cut off stems that had bud sites on them? I'm just trying to get some knowledge before I get my scrog on. Thanks man

No, the grow has not been switched to 12/12 yet so there are not any bud sites.

Re: 4inch PVC Aero/NFT 4x5 SCROG (1200 Watts)

I was hoping you'd get some replies to this question. I'm always interested in ratios and results.

There's a lot of experienced growers watching this, what are your rules of thumb in this area?

Good question bro.... here's the way I've ran the numbers:

Reports of 2 ounces per squared foot of net are not uncommon. I've seen reports as high as 2.6 ounces per square foot. I believe that grow had 75 watts per sq ft of net. I have 20 sq ft and 1200 watts ....so 1200/20 = 60 watts per square foot of net which is more than enough to get it done. So let's say that I get 2 ounces per square foot? That gives me 40 ounces.

If I get 2.5 ounces per square foot I'd yield 52 ounces. At 1.5 ounces per square foot of net I'll yield 30 ounces. I consider this to be a pretty attainable goal. I've got enough light and a great system. I don't want to set a goal of 45 ounces and then feel like I've missed my goal if I harvest 30 ounces. I'll be tickled if I harvest 30 ounces dried.

Now let's look at the grams /watt scenario.... If I harvest 1 gram per watt I'd net a tad under 43 ounces.

Most things point to a 35+ ounce harvest....however, this is my first Aero scrog.....I have no past data to go on as to how these plants will stretch in this particular system so knowing when to flip my lights is going to be critical to my yield. If I flip early my yield will suffer..... If I wait too long they will overgrow the screen and it will be a mess. Luckily, I've scrogged before so I have an idea abbout what to expect. I doubt my entire net will get filled because of the way it sits. I should have placed it in the middle but I needed space to get behind the grow over by the AC unit. Therefore, I have to depend on the 3 plants nearest the res to fill that end of the screen, that leaves 6 plants on the other end that will overgrow my screen if I'm not careful. See my situation? Hence my 30 ounce goal.

I want my buds to grow 6-8 inches above the net so I won't train them through the entire 2 week stretch period. I'll let them start to go vertical a little earlier. This means I'm going to have to Veg them a little longer. It sucks waiting because I can already see over 80 bud sites on the canopy.

Trus me, patience will be rewarded here. I've decided that the canopy is getting large enough that it warrants the 2nd 600 watter. Tomorrow I'm going to start running it as well because the canopy is stretching a little out of the effective range of just one light.

After some pruning I've realized that the canopy is not as full as originally thought. It looks full because of leaves but in reality there's still a lot of holes that need filled. Maybe by the end of June......

Anyway what are your thoughts on a final weight? I know that I will be more than pleased if I reach my goal of 30 ounces. Anything past that is just icing.

Actually some of the pruning did consist of tops that would have been buds in the end...but these were the really weak ones that never would have made it to the screen and there were only 3 or 4 of them.

Most of the pruning was fan leaves. This promotes better air circulation and prevents any fungus growth. The foliage under the net wasnt getting light anyway.

I made sure not to take a bunch because that would stunt them. They are still growing fine after my prunin the other night. Hope this helps.

Looking good 420fied.:smokin:
How's the roots doing you may want to check your sprayer's from time to time roots tend to grow into them.;)

+rep If I can

Thanks Pan. roots are still tucked into the pipes. Nothing is in the res. The lockout has been resolved. Thank you for your help in the matter.

I check my system 10 times a day bro(everything from ph, ppm, sprayers, temps, etc) so I'm way ahead of ya there. RoorRip

Thanks man. I've got tons to learn but if you have any questions I'll try and answer as best I can.

The neat thing about this journal is that it documents not only the grow but the build. I hope that everyone can take something from it.

Re: 4inch PVC Aero/NFT 4x5 SCROG (1200 Watts)

I have to give you props, man! You got me thinking if I should go Hydro or Aero. I am learning a lot from this journal and will use the knowledge. I look forward to witnessing your success. Good luck!

A word on training for anyone considering a SCROG. Here's a look at the underside.... notice I topped them at about 5 nodes. I wanted to promote branching obviously.

The red arrows shows how I'm training the branches out in all directions. The blue marks are places where you can see horizontal growth. This is where they make contact with the screen and I have to pull them back under.

This is simply to give you guys a view of what's going on.

Now here's my situation. As you can see, the back end of the net is getting full. I've got plenty of room on the front end but only have 3 plants to fill it.

I took a really close look tonight after a small training session and breaking off two tips(f*ck!), and I have deduced that the entire screen is right at 50% full right now.

In the past I have flowered this strain when they reached 16 inches in soil and they ended at just under 40 inches. Knowing this I've got to visualize a 2 1/2 x stretch when I flip them.

What do you guys think?

ahhhahaha, noice. Plants look great as usual. You haven't had any problems with nute lockout? And did you decide a day to switch to 12/12 yet?
