4inch PVC Aero/NFT 4x5 SCROG - 1200 Watts

Re: 4inch PVC Aero/NFT 4x5 SCROG (1200 Watts)

fied, beautiful grow and one of the most complete DIY's I've found. Thanks for sharing. Now I'm having second thoughts on a 15 site recirculating DWC I've been planning cause of nute costs for a 55 gal overall res capacity.

What's your total res size on this system?

Re: 4inch PVC Aero/NFT 4x5 SCROG (1200 Watts)

Wow bro, I just found this thread, only on page 8 and I already have so many things to talk about. Excellent thread so far. I love the DIY grows, no better way to do it for sure. I was just wondering how long u have been growing for and if u have done any hydro b4. Hydro is so much harder than soil. First of all, it is so unforgiving. If one bit of light creeps through or if for some reason 1 root system gets messed up all of your plants will suffer. Once u flower all of your root systems will be so big that they will all intertwine with each other, sometimes leaving a survival of the fittess theme where the plants will be fighting one another for space.
Another thing is ppm and pH. U might find it a little harder to maintain once the plants are larger and having more influence on the amount of water that is in your res, even with the ro system u are using now. PH will fluctuate, and ppm should drop or rise as well over the course of the week. Be sure to check up on that. When growing soil, if u are using a good soil I.e.foxfarm, pH is normally automatically right where it needs to be.
Hydro is so fast! It is really amazing at how much of a difference it makes. But at the same time, u are going to get less tasty buds out of dro. And sometimes they will not be as dense as soil either.
I truly hope that your grow will be hassle free. 30 oz on 9 plants will be something to see. I will be tuning in for sure. Best of luck!
+reps for the DIY brother!

Thank you.

45 gallon tote.... but I only fill it with 15 gallons due to my pipes running through the side of the unit. It works fine.

Thank you for the post. I've been growing for the better part of 4 years in soil. This is indeed my first ever attempt at hydro. I guess you could say I shot for the moon on the first try.....lol

The roots are already exploding...... so I agree that it might get hairy with 57 more days to go.

I check my system 10 x a day. PPM and PH are checked 3x a day at least. The girls are drinking lots of water and eating lots of nutes right now. Explosive growth.

Dense nugs come from the light source not the grow system. I have a friend who harvested 27 OUNCES off of 1 plant with this identical setup. Yes, that's right....27 ounces....lol

Stick around bro. I value your feedback.

Re: 4inch PVC Aero/NFT 4x5 SCROG (1200 Watts)

Update time.... I had a training session this morning and let me tell you there are tops...EVERYWHERE.... it was an hour long westling match but I won.

The roots are exploding.... the tops are exploding...... we are 6 days into the "stretch".

Here's some sequence photos for you guys and gals:

pic 1 is pre-training as they stood.

Here they are after I did a little training. You can see how far they were above the screen. You've got to be very careful at this stage or you'll snap tops off. I actually got through this session without a single break.

Here's a color shot after the session was over. This is going to get exciting so stay tuned.

Re: 4inch PVC Aero/NFT 4x5 SCROG (1200 Watts)

with only 15 gallons of res? is the system that stable? Do you have to adjust it alot? I tried running 30 gallons with 15 plants and it was to finicky. Even now with 30 plants and 55 gallons I still have to monitor it closely. They say you can go up to 48 pots with my system but when it cycles it damn near drains the res.

They eat and drink a lot but remember that I have a 30 gallon RO res right on the other side of the wall that feeds it so I top off the res and adjust PPM/PH daily. So to answer your question,..yes there are a lot of minor adjustments but I stay on top of it at all times.

They do need to be monitored closely for sure.

Re: 4inch PVC Aero/NFT 4x5 SCROG (1200 Watts)

gotcha..thanx

Now you have me curious PV....

I was just thinking about it.... I havent taken notes but I'm guessing the girls are eating my PPM from 400 down to 370 or so in a 24 hr period. Plus they are probably drinking 3 gallons a day.

My PH also will go from 5.6 to 5.7 in that same time period.

I guess I never really thought about it because I monitor the grow so closely.

Tell me about your adjustments. You have piqued my curiosity.

Looking great, I am still amazed at what you can learn from this one journal, Thanks again and keep up the great work. Cant wait to see those thing finish...

Re: 4inch PVC Aero/NFT 4x5 SCROG (1200 Watts)

420 since you have a A/C unit in the room I realized that there's no need to have a squirrel fan exhausting the hot air from your lights.. I'm in a tent and I have to do it that way. Looking at your setup with a A/C in the wall I was thinking about going that route. 1. How's the 600 watt lamp's heat near the canopy of your plants? Can you put your hand at least 12 inches from the light without irritation?

I have a fan blowing directly onto the canopy and that coupled with the AC keeps the room temp at 74 with lights on and I can keep the 600's about 16-18 inches away from the canopy without it getting very hot on the back of my hand at all. In fact, if I needed to, I'm guessing that I could position the lights about 12-14 inches away from the canopy without causing heat stress.

Re: 4inch PVC Aero/NFT 4x5 SCROG (1200 Watts)

You have done a very sweet job my man. Im putting a R/O on the next cycle. I have well water and my ppm runs bout 225. There must be enuf good stuff in them because they grow quite a bit with no nutes. I still would rather start with 0 ppm water though.

Thanks. Earl sold me on the R/O setup. If you have any questions when you install it I'd be glad to help in any way that I can.

I'm intrigued with your well water. I doubt very many grow with well water and obviously it does a great job. I think you'll love the R/O setup though.

Time for the first update on the 2 outdoor plants:

Here's plant 1 on the day that I planted it outside(June 7th)

Here it is today(June 22nd)

Plant 2 was a sickly little thing when I put it out on the 7th

However, she looked fabulous today

I fed both of them some Jack's Classic 30-10-10 Orchid Special. Both plants are about 30inches tall. I was surprised to see that they were in such great shape. Boy what a bonus these two plants are going to make for!!!!
