Xlr8's Quest For The Best - 2012

Actually, to be clear, that chart is NOT mine, it was done by Stevehman documenting one of his grows. But, that being said, if I'm reading it correctly (and doing the math correctly!) he's actually at 29.42% retained, or a 70.58% loss in water weight.

You need to read carefully, because it's not all obvious, but his total wet weight is 1437. For the ACTUAL total dry weight, you need to add 75.6 + 93.512 + 109.431 + 144.359 which equals 422.902 total actual dry weight. And, 422.902/1437 = .29423 (rounded) or 29.42%.
:Namaste:

Thanks for setting the record straight on that one - even if I did vape too much to follow the deets without re-reading several times, lol!

Hey Krip, you know about breeding right? Can you jump over to my journal and check out a few things for me. Im unsure if this plant is a male or not and I may breed with it. But question is will the female plant produce all female seeds?

Coudn't resist a peek myself, Wiz.

That one is still TBD to me brother. I don't think you'll find your first male/female parts at or near that level of the plant, and at least from the pics, you can't definitively tell what you have there.

Mr Krip's responses to you were absolutely spot on, btw!

Okay - I popped some new seeds for next round and future rounds perhaps. Once they veg to size, I'll take cuttings and sex the reg seed cuttings to remove males.

Here are the new seedlings to be:

  • Sweet Deep Grapefruit (Dinafem)
  • Humboldt (CH9)
  • Vortex (TGA Subcool)
  • Jilly Bean (TGA Subcool)
  • Pre - '98 Bubba Kush (Cali Connection)

I'll select some of these to flower in the next round along with some Pineapple Express. Ideally: Pineapple Express, pre 98 Bubba, Jilly Bean and whichever looks most promising amongst the SD Grapefruit, Vortex and Humboldt. We'll see, but that's the starting point!

Good to know, I've been following your progress on this one - your postulation seems plausible to me, thanks for the heads up on your findings so far.

Do you think it could be explained by other reasons... like RH differences during end of grow or proximity to bulb? In other words, are you apples to apples on this, pretty confidently?

Thanks again for sharing your thoughts!

Loss in drying is loss in drying. 2+2=/=5 hehhe. But just in case, to show the differences, I am running this one 12/12 all the way out. Same strains/clones from same mothers, same nutes, same water, lights, temps, CO2 enrichment and all, so we shall see in a few months. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Maybe part of the different ratios wet/dry is due to water weight that varies day to night? Can be healthy at either end of range. i.e. Water tough desert plants and watch them swell, sucking it up. I've been steady with PE at about 20% dry from wet trim to cured.

Cool idea to repeat the experiment with 12/12 to compare. :thumb:

That's the sort of thing I was wondering. For example, I've had buds nearer bulbs that dried much more quickly, seemingly because they were more dry to start with due to proximity to bulbs, etc. So... theoretically, they would have lost less weight, because they were closer to "dry" from the beginning. By that logic, more bud closer to bulbs (at least in my scenario) would produce greater quantities of dryer bud, losing less weight during the drying process. At least that's a theory I've pondered in this... :scratchinghead:

Read a story or watched a video not so long ago of a Cali grape grower who was facing a fire storm heading his way. He pumped some inches of water to his vines in the nick of time and the hungry fireball flew over, leaving him unscathed. "They sucked up tons of water instantly", diluting his grapes but saving his ass.

Harvest dry weight counts, wet weight is for anal retentives.

Drive bye. Seen Mr Krip talking about wieght loss. I had two buds, both wieghted 35 grams to start wet off the plant. My Cripit ended up with 11 grams and a Star-47 ended up with 10 grams. I think alot depends on the density of the bud. Some buds are alot meatier than others. But I lost like 66% off a the Cripit to water loss. Well just wanted to say high and till later Keepem Green

Awesome!

You are a regular Cannabis factory over there! LOL!!

Looking forward to seeing how all these new ones work out for ya! Sorry I haven't been able to check in as often as I would normally prefer, but things are mellowing out here on the home front now, so I plan to be able to keep better forcused on what you are doing here. :)

This is going to be an exciting grow..
All the power to ya X!

Hi everyone! Only have a second, so I'll just update with this: The 5 seedlings are all either "out" of the rooter or nearly peeking out. Looks like they were all viable (was a little nervous a couple were at least 2 years old). Still a chance I could screw them up somehow, but they're all viable at least... Yeah! :yahoo:

I'll try to get caught up tomorrow. Hope everyone has a great weekend - thanks for all the encouraging words! :thanks:

yay!

It's crazy and a little depressing to see how much a nice fat bud really shrinks up as it dries... What once was a beer can size cola becomes a snickers "fun-size". Well, maybe not that bad, lol.

By the way, why are the little Snickers bars called "fun sized"... Everyone knows the big ones are the real fun size. Okay, so I admit it I'm wanting a Snickers bar right now. Damn, I wish we'd have had some leftover Snickers bars after Halloween.

What were we talking about again?!

Oh yeah, shrinkage sucks.

Thanks for dropping by Wood - Hope you have a great weekend!

Hi Goose!

Haha - hardly a cannabis factory! :) I'm just growing a few at a time for me - at a bit of a leisurely pace. If I was really thinking I'd have popped these weeks ago to have them sexed and clones ready for flower in a couple of weeks. Doh! But, I'm not in a huge hurry and not desperate for the meds at the moment.

I'm going to keep maybe 1 or 2 hydro moms going for the things I've been growing, and mine these next seedlings for a long-term keeper (or two) as well.

Ultimately my goal is to find the best strains I can for my aches and pains and potentially cross a few of them to try to get something unique to my specific pains. I've had best luck with sativas so far as far as for nerve pain, but I have a lot of arthritis pain, too, so I'm looking more into indica and indica hybrids again for something to address those aches better. Ideally, to cross the best indica with best sativa would be interesting project for me. Then, selecting best F1 and cloning it? I'm not sure I have the space or patience to do a whole big breeding project, but that would be a way - with a little/lot of luck - to get to a decent place to clone from perhaps.

So far my long term keepers on the sativa-end are Chocolope, and possibly Super Lemon Haze. It's possible that I have another keeper from one of the unique crosses I have in flower now, too. I'm hoping that the OG Ripper (OG Kush x Jack the Ripper) is another keeper.

I'm all chatty today, lol. I'm glad things are mellowing on the home-front for you. Glad to have you drop by whenever you have the time, but I know how important life and family is outside of here too, so it's just good to see you when you do have a moment!

Sounds like a great starting point.

Thanks HMG - :)

See my post to Goose also, my goal is to find another strain to help more with the arthritis aches. The Chocolope, and Super Lemon haze have been great sativas for my nerve pain, but I'm wanting to find a good "aches and pains" arthritis relief indica or something to compliment it or even cross with the good sativas - quest for my own best medicine! You and I have a lot in common with our aches I think -- do you have any really good ones that helped with disc/arthritis pain, or nerve pain? Or both? Would love any good suggestions to consider for the future, though it might be a bit before I can buy new seeds...

always fun to peruse your journal and watch the hapennings

:thankyou: Chronic - Great to see you around again more lately. :)

This is going to be an exciting grow..
All the power to ya X!

Appreciate that Vick, thanks buddy! :thankyou:

Hi fish cake - It's funny that I still get so excited about little seedlings... but they are nothing but perfection and hope at this stage, what's not to love about that?!

WIW!
have a good weekend X!

You too, thanks!
