Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures & Photos From The Garden - 2012

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

i managed to find some a lot cheaper by not searching for bubble bags, if i remember right i searched for plain filter bags, people use these for cleaning diesel in engines and stuff like that, so if you search for filter bags you should come across some cheaper ones that do the same thing, its just when they have bubble written in the title or are sold by cannabis sites the prices seem to go up, but on searching got filter bags i found loads on the auction site for a couple of quid, and they was still measured in microns, at least at the lower price you could buy some different sizes or a couple of bags of the same size just in case they didnt last as long, but looking at the bags they look the exact same thing just different advertised use of the bag,

i have also read that its best not to use any machine to stir the trim if your using water and ice as this damages the bag its best juts to use your hands, i think the dry ice method is good as well, but im thinking this, its cheaper to buy the screens than the bags and stretch it over a wooden frame to create a screen, i wonder if it would be easy to turn it into a box and add a section to the bottom sort of under the screen so it collected the hash then you could give it a good shake without worrying about it blowing away or having to collect it over a table,

You can also use "Pollen Bag" when searching.

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

Made some kief hash pucks with my new pollen press today.

Super cool little pucks. Now, what to do with them? I have 2 that are the same size as a penny, twice as thick, that came from the 120 micron screen in my pollen box - and 1 that size from the 100 micron screen. I didn't weigh them or anything, but they sure are cool looking little tan resin pucks.

Other than break off chunks to smoke, what do other people do with these little pucks - anything?

There must be 15 or more strains mixed together in those little pucks. Not sure if that's good or bad, but I'll bet you forget what planet you're from if you smoke some of it!

I'll throw up a couple more pics soon, but here's the gals in the tent: (TOP: Deadhead OG, Super Lemon Haze. BOTTOM: Chocolope, Super Lemon Haze):

Pucks are for storing, or break'em up and put'em on a bowl. Or smoke'em in a pinch hitter/sneak-a-toke to say, "Bubye" to the world for a while.

hehehe mixed strains gets you mixed results. want a little of everything?

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

Looking awesome for the next run X!:high-five:

I love how easy you make everything look :bravo:

If I've had a really really bad day, I'll just break off a piece from a puck, and sprinkle it on a nice bowl ;)

Only have a second, but here's my cute little kief pucks... I think I found the perfect container for them:

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

loving the puks, that press does good job, what you recon each one about an 8th, 3.5g or slightly more, what we do with solids in uk or double zero is burn it and sprinkle it into a nice spliff, the hash or solids we can buy off the street it usually really dark and pressed into 9oz blocks with a tamp on, usually has chunks of plastic in it, sometimes you get some really nice squidgy black that you can play with like blue tack or play dough, then just put a lighter to it till it fluffs up then pinch some off and sprinkle it in like dust, when you burn it slightly it allows you to sprinkle it like dust, but where i am we roll spliffs with tobacco in them it makes the weed go further, instead of just getting 2 blunts out of an 8th so we prefer to make it last and get a long rizla fill with half a cig and spread out then sprinkle some weed or hash on top, what i have found with hash though is thats its more of a night time smoke and mongs you out, but been as yours is not processed with crap like old vinyl records n crap like that, you will probably find it will be the same buzz as smoking the plant, but as its a mixture im sure it will leave you pleasently stoned, give us a smoke report when you get round to trying it, i sure wish i had the chance to try some decent hash instead of all the comercial stuff we get here, ive got a few grows to do before i got enough to make any hash, but it is my goal so ill keep all the trim and make some when i have got enough

damn puks looks yummy :thumb:

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

Thanks buddy! I was blown away by the awesome flowering pics you put up the other day. It was so good to see those things really bulking up nicely for you. You're off to a great start - truly. Thanks a bunch for the well wishes. :thumb:

No problem my good friend!

Some of the plants did really really well like the Urban Poison, AK47 and Headcheese. The lemon kush was the surprise at it came from a hermied seed. 6 colas all 4 to 5 inches in legnth. Everyone has just been blown away by the plant we didn't hold out much hope for. Mojo did pretty well and the BC God Bud did ok. Hawaiian Big Bud was a letdown and the blueberry plants did soo poorly that we will just be making hash from those plants.

So glad to hear your doing better. Ya had me worried

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

Quick update - it's been a bit of a bummer here and I've been in mini crisis mode:

Only have a second, but wanted to share what's up and also post a cool article I found.

First, what's up: I have been hit by bugs. Despite all my precautions, I found root aphids in a couple of my moms. I've been in clean and sterilize and kill bug mode ever since. I trashed all of my clones, moms, etc., with the exception of a few young cuttings that appear to have not been affected and were slightly removed from the ones affected (a Deadhead cutting, SLH and a Jack the Ripper cutting). These cuttings were to be the new moms ironically, and the others were going to get flowered out or trashed anyway. I just hope they didn't get hit, too, though they are getting aggressive treatment with SNS products no matter what, as are the plants in the bloom tent which seem to be okay.

Everything left got drenched and foliared, and will get a second treatment with SNS 203. Thank goodness for the MOTM prize package - I wouldn't have been able to afford to fight this right now as I'd like to otherwise. Additionally, there was a systemic product called SNS 209 that is supposed to having lasting effects as far as prevention. I will be adding the 209 to my reservoir over the course of the next 3 res changes - hypothetically, the SNS 209 makes the plant unappealing to bugs, and stays in the plant for an extended period if run over the course of a couple of weeks.

What drives me crazy, is that the grow room has a Hot Shot pest strip, the reservoirs have mosquito dunks in them (though I guess the dunks don't do much with aphids), I use products that repel/kill bugs in my nutrients like Dutch Master Zone, and Silica additives. I keep an immaculate grow space and take many precautions. But, I have pets, and it's bug season... and who knows. One thing to mention, I DO think my precautions have kept this from being major. I've only seen a few actual living aphids, and a couple that were already dead, but limited to 2 plants. I think at a minimum, they were finding life difficult. None had wings.

The Flo N Gro got a thorough cleaning inside the pots, while the netpots were removed and "soaked" in a SNS 203 solution, drenched right up on the stem, and then soaked with a foliar of the 203 as well. I saw no evidence of living or dead aphids in the Flo N Gro, but I was taking no chances. Interestingly, the plants LOVED the process in the sense that they look so perky and green and happy after all the dousing and drenching with the Sierra Natural Sciences products. SNS 203 wiped out a house plant infestation for me in the past, and it seems to be a good product. I think the world of their products so far, we'll see if they save me again...

I'm going to try to fight this battle, but if I don't seem to win it, I'll scrap everything and take a few months off from growing as I've heard these things can be near impossible to eradicate otherwise. Can't help but try, though!

Wish me luck!!

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

Lastly, I found this article from BigB*ds magazine interesting - the author (Lee Leissett) did a comparison with dark times prior to harvest (Jandre I thought of you). I tried the 48 hours darkness last time, but I didn't like how limp some of the lower branches were, personally:

"One question I have been asked repeatedly by medical marijuana growers is when to harvest in relation to the light cycle. Many growers want to know if harvesting during the light cycle versus the dark cycle makes any difference in the potency of the cannabinoids. There have been many opinions on this subject and also many perpetuated myths. I decided to experiment with harvesting at different periods throughout the light cycle to see if there was a noticeable (measurable) difference in cannabinoid potency.

I decided to harvest three identical plants, all grown in the same room, at different times throughout the room’s light cycle. The first plant was harvested right before the light cycle occurred. The second was harvested right after the light cycle finished. The final plant was moved to a completely dark, temperature and humidity controlled room where it sat for 48 hours and was then harvested.

There was no noticeable difference in cannabinoid potency. We tested three samples from each plant and averaged the results of each plant to compare to one another. The results were virtually identical. There was no difference in potency in relation to the time at which the plants were harvested. Since machines are not always accurate, we also provided a few patients with blind samples to see if they noticed any differences in the samples. No differences were noted.

It is true that resin production on a medical marijuana plant peaks during the dark cycle. Because of this fact, there has been a myth perpetuated that cannabis harvested right before the light cycle begins — or cannabis given 24-72 hours of dark before harvesting — will produce a higher potency medicine than medical cannabis harvested during the light cycle. The problem with this theory is that a typical medical marijuana plant has a blooming period of about 50-60 days. When the overall time of the blooming cycle is taken into consideration, an additional day or two is pretty insignificant. The essential oils and resins are not produced overnight but instead are steadily built up over the entire blooming process. The number of cannabinoids degraded in one light cycle is completely negligible when comparing potency of the final product.

I tend to harvest my medical marijuana plants right before the light cycle begins, but this has always been a matter of convenience over anything else. It allows me to harvest and remove one crop and then bring in the next crop right at the beginning of the light cycle. This gives my next crop twelve hours under the blooming lights to better establish themselves before their flowering period begins (12 hours of darkness). My plants seem to transition better from vegetative to blooming if I start with the light cycle instead of immediately placing them in the dark cycle.

Harvesting during the light or dark cycle should be determined by personal preference and convenience. Growers should not get hung up on harvesting at a particular time in the light cycle. Plants harvested when they are ripe will be potent regardless of the time of day they are cut down".

Peace and love to you all! :)

Amen on wining MOTM.....It gave you the best possible army to fight those little bastards. It will be along battle X, more power to you!

Thank You for the other information on harvest times and conditions. Your the Best X. :bravo:

harvest time and dark cycle read for resin production was very informative thanks for the post X

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

Heya X, time to tell those pets to stay the hell out of the grow area!

You have probably seen me mention this, but just a reminder. As a preventative, I routinely spray my hallway and all areas around my grow with Home Defense. Before I started growing, I sprayed everywhere twice a week for 3 weeks. Since then I spray about once a month. Which reminds me I think I'm overdue and need to do that again today. I bought 1 gal from wally world or Home Despot, can't recall, and it comes with it's own sprayer. In 8 months I haven't used the entire gallon yet.

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

Sorry to hear about the pests Brother! But, somehow I doubt you'll let them win...You're too methodical, and intelligent...(OCD lol)
Kidding buddy you know that. Just do me a favor, though, and don't freak out and pull the whole grow...I think if you took a few months off, it'd be like having my favorite neighbor go to Canada for the summer...A bummer in other words:rofl:
MAN I'm ripped tonight, sorry for wearing the lampshade, but seriously, stay calm, and ride it out. Hell, at least take them into the 4th week of flower, and take notes on the effects. I know its a lot of work for you to do, if they're a lost cause, but I really think you still have a decent yield coming...Hope it gets better for ya my friend:Namaste:

OH, AWESOME pucks man!!:bravo:
