Xlr8's "Flo N Gro" Hydro Multiple Strains 2011

Well, we'll just say its a good thing you dont have any more blue buckets to aide you. They're all in your tent!! Definitely not a bad thing. I agree. If the roots are already forming a jungle, just play it safe til you can.

Thanks forvthe REPs!

Grow Update - Sept 19

Veg day 23, day 34 from seed (Flo N Gro)
Veg day 16, Day 26 from seed (Chocolope)

Well, plants are looking great. I'm already a big fan of the Flo N Gro/Ebb N Gro style of growing. I am getting great veg development, and the roots look amazing. I pulled the pots up on each bucket to look at the roots, and they're all nearly bone white, healthy looking and abundant. They all have a fair amount of roots coming out of the inner net-pot bucket sides and bottom. I'm thrilled with how great they look.

Plant sizes vary - The tallest is a Lucy that's about 9" at the moment, the rest are between 4-6". Aside from the one Lucy, there isn't a lot of height difference, though there is quite a difference in bushiness (some of this is how they were topped). The UBT plants are coming along great and are all working on their 4 main tops. Some are more uniform and even than others, but they're all developing nicely. Skywalker number 2 was topped one node higher, and you can really tell by how bushy it looks.

Picture of Skywalker #2's roots - not the best photo, as it doesn't quite capture how thick the roots are near and at the bottom - 4 gallon buckets:

Blue Planet Nutrients was kind enough to send me the ingredients to mix up a Cal/Mag supplement:

I took the powdered ingredients, and I mixed it up in a clear container until there was no visible particulate, and followed the instructions he gave me to the letter. After it was all mixed I put it into a cleaned and sterilized 1 liter (former) nutrient container that I had saved. It looks the color of urine, but doesn't have a bad smell. Blue Planet advised that I use 4-5 ml. per gallon.

According to Blue Planet: "...guaranteed analysis of 2% N, 1.2% Mg, 2% Ca, and .1% Fe. I used some stuff that Botanicare doesnt add to theirs. I included both calcium and magnesium chelate. The calcium of the mix I gave to you has only 2% Ca compared to 3% in the Botanicare but I think that is a better ratio (2% Ca). Too much Ca can interfere with Mg and you will do good with this."

Also, I had just done a reservoir/nutrient change a day earlier so I added about 20ml of this to the solution afterwards, and the PPM's went from 760 ppm (20 gal res.) to 820ppm using only a quarter of the recommended amount - so at least for this res. change, I'm going to leave it at that... After putting the first 20 ml in, I was afraid of the PPM jump putting more in might cause. I'm sure I could go higher with PPM's but I'm a little hesitant to make too big of a jump at the moment as they look so great right now.

Finally, here's a group shot of the gals - they're loving they're Blue Planet Nutrients 3 part diet!:

Finally sorry I haven't been around much last few days, super busy at home right now, and still having some health issues, but I feel great today so I'll focus on that! :)

You're welcome - thanks for the great idea.

Yes, I planned to only do 4, but I can't let go of a plant unless it goes male/hermie. So... it's crowded and no "shuffle" bucket. ;)

Thanks again, MB. :thumb:

You have to love BPN for all he's doing. I think there's a serious market for dry-mix-your-own nutes. Lower shipping costs and lower nutrient costs. Just have to make sure you're mixing them as directed.

Agreed, and I have to laugh as I was posting in your journal as you were posting here. ;)

It was awesome of (Blue Planet) to pull those ingredients together to mix that up - really nice guy, great sponsor and I hope it all really takes off for him/them.

Sisco! Whadup brother?! Hope you are well. Thanks for the encouragement! :high-five:

Things are good my friend, I've decided to put all the cylinders to work in the closet.

You have got some picture perfect young'ns there, with some great sponsor to customer assistance. All this information will be very helpful to future growers and it counts more than you think... Great stuff!

:bravo::420: and BPN

Thanks buddy! Yes, Blue Planet has been really great. Can't wait to see your closet bursting with bud. ;)

@ Crower -- Agreed! Blue Planet has been great to deal with, and my plants like life in veg so far, so... so good! :)

Plants are the picture of health Buddy. :grinjoint:

Sorry your still feeling the effects of your surgery. Must me continuous hell. :yikes::yikes:

Check out my new journal if you have time. :peace:

OMM -

:thanks: the plants are really looking good and I'm really pleased. I took Magic Beans advice and had my wife help me shuffle some plants around that weren't getting as much light. He had a great idea I think.

Yes, a lot of nerve damage I'm dealing with - no telling how long it takes to heal I guess, but just keep plowing ahead! I don't let it get me down so much, but it's a bit frustrating not being able to do what I want. I'm still optimistic this will get a lot better. I sure hope so. :yikes:

Your new journal rocks! Great start. I'm pumped that you are going to be doing some outside stuff again, and I love that the Greece story continues...

Hope you and Jo are well. Take care buddy. :high-five:

So far... Wait 'til peeps see some ginormous colas and frosty buds going on all over the 420 magazine community -- you'll be boosting up your staffing levels in no time - at least that's my wish for you. :goodluck:

Man X, those plants are growing super fast! If you dont switch to 12/12 soon, you'll be overcrowded like my last grow was! Keep it up!

Hi Magic beans -

Yes, I'm going to switch it over soon I think. I want to top the Chocolope first, give it a little recovery time and make the switch...

Oh, and I had my wife help me move a couple of things around so that my Lavender and Magic Bud are now getting a bit better light for a while. Thanks again for the inspiration on that one. :thumb:

Hi all - a little update:

This morning I decided to top the Chocolope UBT style, and I topped a couple of the longer Lucy tops on the Lucy that I UBT'd. In a perfect world, I'd have liked to have waited longer on the Chocolope, but my Indica hybrids are getting bigger fast in veg and I don't want to outgrow my space. Lucy's tops were growing like mad, and I didn't want her to get too far ahead of the other plants height-wise. So, now I'm not only a topper I'm a top topper. I think I'm addicted to topping, it's so much easier than LST. ;)

I mentioned this in a reply to Magic Beans, but I took up his idea and had my wife help me move a couple of plants around so that they get the prime light for a little while.

My plan is to wait until I see secondary grow shoots starting to take off a little with the Chocolope, and then kick 'em into flower - I need her to stay short so I'm okay if I'm giving up some height - she's a Sativa... I'm new to topping, does this sound like an okay plan? I'm concerned that if I let them veg too much the height will be out of control.
