Xlr8's "Flo N Gro" Hydro Multiple Strains 2011

X, man you really do have a way of setting the bar my friend!! You have done a phenomenal job of making sure your journal is top notch, as well as making your rounds and being supportive to others. Not to mention all the work you've put into your grow, and just all around maintaining yourself!! Really hoping you're able to find some relief in the coming days and weeks, and that your health finds its way back to comfortable!!
Great job with everything youre donig, but keep yourself feeling well my friend!!

Looking good, X. Theyre off to a healthy start. I bet you cant wait for the growth spurt. Wont even have to veg too long and youre gonna have that tentat full capacity by the en of the great 12/12 stretch

Like the clean environment you got going on. Those things going to explode in 2 weeks. I think you're the only person on this site with this system. Are you running any other grow beside this one which are not documented? What's the pro/con using this grow method thus far?

Geez Twelve12, already forgot about me? Im sad :( just kidding my friend its the good meds lol

Thanks buddy, that means a lot to me. I appreciate all of that - though I wish I had more energy and time lately. I'm where I should be with my health at the moment, but it should get better. I sure appreciate your kindness my friend! :high-five:

Thanks MB -

I'm so impatient at this stage! You're right, I don't think I'll have to veg long to fill it up. I'm probably going to veg fairly short until I have a better feel for capacity with this new tent and grow set-up. Probably take me a while before I get dialed into how I want to best use the system and tent, but fun experimenting! It's pretty cool that we have such similar equipment - hopefully it will help us both get an idea for how different approaches work. :high-five:

First of all, :thankyou: Twelve12 -

No other grows going on - just this one. Magic Beans has same system in same tent, but he's doing more buckets in the tent and really filling it up nicely. I grow just for my own needs, so it's always pretty modest on my end, but I am a bit jealous and excited to see how much MB can get from filling it up so well.

So far all I can say is that the results I'm seeing match what I would expect a healthy DWC system (what I've used in the past) to this stage. From the moment they've been in the Flo N Gro, they've been perky and happy. They're loving it, honestly. No doubt about it - always perky and happy. One thing that throws a curveball a bit for comparison and review purposes, is this is both my first grow in this system and with these nutrients. So I'm in a lot of new territory for me on all fronts frankly. So far so good though!

So far, not seeing any cons - except for potential malfunctions that could come up like (disconnected hose, pump failure, leakage). Everything is working great, but the repeated flooding and draining process always worries me with the water being literally being pumped in and out of the tent to the outside reservoir. It's all worked flawlessly so far, but there do seem to be ways for a pretty catastrophic failure to happen that could:

  • flood the tent, or outer room
  • drown the roots
  • starve the roots

Having said that I've had no problems yet, though, after unplugging and replugging a particular pump within the system, I luckily (accidentally) discovered that I had to unplug and replug the entire system before it would work again. Had I missed that it would not have been doing flood/drains and eventually the plants would have suffered.

So far so good, but just a few vulnerabilities I need to stay on top of I think.

Right after posting this, I got caught up on Magic Beans journal (also Flo N Gro), and he had a hose become disconnected causing his apartment to flood. There is your potential "con" to this system, frankly. It's something he and I, and I'm sure Ebb N Gro growers, always have to guard for due to all the water pumping/movement with this type of system... Loving it otherwise!

That sucks! Zip ties at every junction and some silicone would be all over my E+F now that you point this out..

Sorry MB, we all learn something from others mistakes though...

Yeow! That certainly sucks!

Talk about drawing attention to your growing activities! :(

Never considered that potential scenario with your rig. At least you have been forewarned! :thumb:

Hey XL,

Been out for a bit, back now and I'll be watching your journal :)

Thanks X for the detail thoughts on the system. Taking preventative measure will put you on the safe side. I've been over to MB journal and noticed the flood too. Doh! So you're not the only one with this system, glad to know there are more growers with it so we can see how each use the system and the nutes.

I guess to really have a peace of mind would need to put each of those bucket under a large tray and the rez inside a bigger rez, lol. Or put tiles in the grow room on the floor and couple feet up on the wall, like a public restrooms and have water seal so if there is a leak it would just stay in there or have a drainage area for easy clean up when hose down the place after each grow. I think that's my future grow, tile up the room with white tiles.

One of these may be a good investment for you guys:

Yeah, my system is pretty small, but I'm pumping 15 gallons back and forth on a regular basis - I wouldn't want that all over my floor! I'm guessing MB had more than that as he's running more grow sites, but I'm not sure. Yikes - but I can so see how easy it could happen, it kept falling off on me prior to testing and I realized right away this could be a huge problem.

Definitely. I already had this worry and know exactly what happened as I've been really paranoid about that particular connection. I've had similar things happen with my last system - it's one of the worst feelings ever to walk into a flooded or partially flooded room(s).
