Xlr8's "Flo N Gro" Hydro Multiple Strains 2011

All is looking great bro, keep her going, excited to see how things progress.
pos vibes your way bud.:Namaste:

:thankyou: Spike. So glad things are looking up a bit for you - sure hope things continue to look up!

I remember when my 22 gallon saltwater reef tank at work cracked at the base. Now THAT was entertainment! I'll stick with my dirt for the time being, had enough with floods, you know!

Yikes on the tank! Yes, it worries me a bunch, but I really love hydro - makes sense to me and I feel comfortable with it. I can't seem to grow things in dirt either, lol. :)

Hi X,

Wow, talk about falling behind...your journal is zipping right along, and your plants...they look really good. I hope mine are that nice in another week. I don't know if my hempy grow will keep up with the flo n gro like yours. We will see.

The flooding issue is why I don't want to do anything with a reservior to it. The alarm thing sounds like it could be a good investment...but the wire ties are cheap, I'd put some of those on all the connections just to help keep it tight. One of my husbands favorite sayings...

"6 P's"...Prior Planning Prevents Piss Pour Performance!
:circle-of-love:

Great grow X, keep 'em green

Hi Sqwheels!

So far so good on the Flo N Gro - really working nicely so far. Flooding scares me too! Sure hope I don't ever have to deal with that... ;)

I like your husbands "6 P's", so true!! :thumb:

Thanks for popping by and the kind words. Can't wait to see how you do at sogging!

I'll try to beat you Buddy...he deserves it. :) Just so he gets nominated by one of us. Any of us.:)

Tried a quick dry on the Blueberry......vaped it...tasted green but smooth......barely can feel a small buzz. Hope she cures well and gets stronger.
Fingers crossed.:adore: Well, she's kind of creeping now. :high-five:

Mine was definitely a creeper! I forgot about that, it's been a while since I've vaped any (not much left). I hope it cures up wonderfully for you.

Yes, let's get Mr. Krip another nomination. :high-five:

Yep, I think Krip's got MOTM for Sept. wrapped up....

You guys are awesome! :thankyou:

The goal is to have over 100 votes for MOTM, Mr. K gets at least 75% of them!

Congrats Steve - you were genuinely a great MOTM candidate and winner. Very deserving! :bravo:

I wanted to get Mr. Krip on the ballot so that it stayed top of mind, and we'll have to do it again this month. Is it open yet? Wasn't last few times I've checked. ;)

Think these two months will go down in 420 history.....:nicethread:

Thanks GT -

That's a lot of pressure, though! I'll do my best, that's for certain. :)

Small Update:

  • Plants are responding well in the tent due to increased humidity - lot's of new growth and it looks great, they are loving the higher RH. They still seem to totally love the system! (RH is being maintained at about 60%).

  • The Chocolope that I pulled out of the tent is doing much better under the T5's at this stage. I did the right thing, no doubt. That hydro bucket just works so well, and the T5's are so gentle at this stage.

  • Interesting thing with the Blue Planet 3 part - I always have to adjust PH UP when I mix it at first, but chase it back down daily (at this stage - I'm sure it will mellow at some point when PPM's go up). So far, no complaints with the Blue Planet nutes, and I'm very happy with the new growth and health of all of my little girls so far. :cheertwo:

On the topic of fittings and flooding.....anybody w/ a RO system should be wary of the plastic "push to lock" fittings. Walked in one night and the line must have blown off less than five minutes earlier. Just starting to pool on the floor. Line pressure of 45 psi thru even a 1/4" fittings moves a lot of water. The alarms only "work" if you are around at the time of the leak. Floor drains are great. If you make a room from scratch, put down membrane and a shower drain.....Also, if you have any type of hydro system, keep ALL electrical off the floor.....Safety First

Great thoughts - thanks for sharing thise OG13. I try to inspect connections daily, but somethings would be tough to catch. I haven't worried about that one before, but I'll keep an eye on that, too.

With the alarms, you are right. It's when I'm not around that I would worry, as well as calling more "attention" (outside, others) to what might already be a bad situation. It's a tough call - but might be something to seriously consider.

I try to keep all my cords off the floor and/or on the other side of the "other-side" of the removable floor in the tent, which is supposed to be waterproof. All plug ends are up in the air mounted to a pole, etc. You've given me pause to consider this further, because you're definitely right about safety. Thanks for contributing this! :high-five:

Everything is looking great today, and new growth is taking off!

Oh, and here's my little Chocolope seedling who's now under the T5's in my DIY hydro bucket:

Hope you are all having a great weekend! :bong:

Which DIY hydro bucket is that one? Any pics/breakdown or exploded view?

Hi OG13 -

Here's the specifics - let me know if you have any questions. I used a 5 gallon bucket and 8" netpot lid from Hydro store, a $14 waterfarm plumbing kit, $10 air pump and a $2 airstone - works like a Waterfarm, but with a bubbling nutrient reservoir under the net pot. Total cost was about $32 or so (not including Hydroton). I used it to grow a Big Bang Auto-flower over the summer, and it yielded 4.7z dried! Loved how well it worked, and I think those results speak for themselves. I let the drip ring run constantly.

The biggest challenge is to keep the nutrients in the bucket (built in reservoir) cool enough. I go low tech, and I throw a hard plastic icepack in each morning and exchange it each evening to keep it cooler, but it's a challenge. The other challenge was just that the small reservoir needed water top off's almost daily once it got into flowering as it would take up so many nutrients/water. Overall, worked great though, and the plant loved it.

While I thought about how to do this and designed it myself, I did find that I'm not the first person to think of how to do this, and found a Youtube video of a guy doing it pretty much EXACTLY how I did (even got the same "wrong size" netpot lid for his). Found the video after I bought all the stuff, and it sure helped with putting it together! Here's the video (this is NOT me in the video!):
