Xlr8's "Flo N Gro" Hydro Multiple Strains 2011

Dude Xlr wtf man! 12 pages deep already haha.

Your seedlings are looking great..I'm a bit behind you with mine.

Question for ya: have you ever had to remove a seed's helmet before? At what point would this be necessary. All this seed ish is new to me and makes me feel like a noob all over. It is pretty fun though, can't imagine seeing these ladies all obese and pushing out nugs..they are so small and useless right now, lol!

Take care bud

:peace:

Marley, I remove the helmets, if needed, very soon after she sprouts. Not removing it can cause the cotyledons to rot inside.

There's is a pretty good video in this post, and the last few minutes (starting around 4:40 then again at 6:05) discuss removing the seed casings

and he's still not back yet!!! LOL

Whats good!!! just wanted to put in my 2 cents about the soldier and HER helmet!!! I'm with you X!!! never do what nature wouldn't do!!!! just let it ride it out!!!

Hey Marley!

First, :thankyou: and yes, this journal is flying along -- I love it! Just had a moment, but wanted to get back to you on my thoughts on this. Basically, I remove the helmets, but I hate doing it.

I've had problems from not removing the "helmets" like Mr. Krip says. Having said that, I've also killed seedlings by trying to remove them. So, it's a touchy thing.

Usually I remove them after they've had a fair chance to rid itself of it. Hard to explain, but through experience you get a feel for when this is. My trick to making this work (most of the time) is a drop of water on the seed helmet/husk. Give it 15-20 seconds or so and the moisture loosens it all up. Be sterile and gently grasp the base of the seedling with your fingers while carefully removing the moistened seedhusk with a sterile tweezers. Be very gentle and careful... The reason I gently grasp the base with my fingers is that you can easily pull the seedling right out of the medium while trying to remove the husk. Just my way of doing things -- not necessarily right!

Subscribered up! Now to start reading from the beginning.

Saweeeeet. Nice to have you here buddy, in every sense of that term! :)

Said like the pro you are buddy.....I do the same...the water really makes it easier.:thumb:

Hi GT -

Nothing like a good mystery bag seed to get a person hooked on the hobby. Many a person here got started that way!

So far we have:

  • Xlr8: Snow White (Nirvana) -- Just ran out!
  • Propa Gator: PE & Paki -- Still growing PE
  • OMM: Lemon Skunk/Lucy -- OMM always has Lucy, and sounds like more Lemon Skunk in the future
  • GT: Bag seed of kind bud -- hooked him on the hobby!

Anyone else want to weigh in? :)

Papaya! Makes my eyes bounce around after a day of smoking 3 or 4 bowls of it. Very nice smell, like some wild tropical mango or maybe a PAPAYA..

Hey Ya'll , just dropping by to check on the progress. the seedlings look good. I think I'll pull up my rockin' chair and start a rockin'.:cheertwo:

Cool - nice having you drop by my friend. It should finally start to get a bit more interesting soon. Plan is to transplant into the Flo N Gro tonight. I'll try to get some pictures of the changes. Have been rinsing hydroton all day it seems like! :)

Hi my Buddy xlr8 ;)

You don't have a journal...you have a Rocket for a journal....I was wondering how your health was going.....healing takes soooooo long. I would say take it easy...but you don't understand that. :thumb:

Thanks OMM -

You're right, it's been a rocket - though I've been a little busy with other things last couple of days so it's slowed a little.

I'm finding out about healing taking a long time - I've gotten past the quick progress phase and now I'm in slow progress mode - hard to be patient. :)

You're right, I have a hard time taking it easy. I NEED to fix that - I am working on it.

The guy in the sky listens, you just gotta talk... But tell your wife to take us some pictures! :) :)

Thanks Magic - good advice! I'll get some pictures soon. Hopefully tonight after moving everything into the Flo N Gro. :)

Whassup Sisco!

Don't have any Papaya seeds, but I'm adding it to my future list! They look and sound fantastic. Thanks for weighing in buddy! :high-five:

Hey everyone -

As mentioned scattered in a few replies, tonight I should be moving the seedlings to the Flo N Gro system. Can't wait to get everything transplanted to their final home and get this new system running. Been rinsing hydroton today and got everything as "pre-ready" for the transition as I think I can. Only uncertainty right now is whether my RO system will produce enough water in time to do this tonight.... hopefully!

Oh, and the Chocolope seedling looks perfect so far and is really nice and healthy looking - growing it's first set of leaves already. :)

I'll update with pics as soon as I can. :)

Grow Update - 12 days from germination (Aug 28):

Moved all the seedlings except the Chocolope and the Magic to the Flo N Gro. I didn't want to do 6 Flo N Gro sites and never expected all 6 seedlings to make it. The plan originally was to do 4, but I just couldn't part with them. So in addition to the 5 seedlings in the Flo N Gro (2 Lucy, 2 Skywalker, 1 Lavender) I have the Magic Bud in a little hydro tub with the Chocolope seedling for tonight before I figure out how to proceed. I spent a lot of time on this tonight, and that's where I left it. I did test this thoroughly before and after adding seedlings and everything seems to be working great.

Couple of pictures (top row Lavender, Lucy, Lucy. Bottom row - both Skywalkers):

Just the Skywalkers and the Lucy's:

As I mentioned I also have a little hydro bubble tub in there temporarily, with the Chocolope seedling and the Magic Bud seedling I couldn't part with yet, but I'm sure I'll be changing this soon...?

Here is what I'm using for reservoirs - 30 gallon rubbermaid bins. I have 2 with float valves for filling with RO water, and I just move the lid and pumps from one to the other during a reservoir change. Always have one filled with water ready to go, and one with nutrients running the Flo N Gro system. At least that's the plan! If you look close, you'll see one is outside of the tent with pump hoses running to the tent, and the one to the right has a blue line connected to it filling it with RO water so it's filled for next res. change. Inside the working reservoir is a pump for the flood portion of the process, and a pump that runs 24/7 recirculating nutrients. I do NOT have air-stones in the reservoir, just the pump to circulate the nutrients:

Some of the seedlings look really good, some not as good. Part of the challenge of doing multiple strains for one, and getting used to a new nutrient program. Also the weakest part of my growing stage - getting them from seedling to vegging... We'll see this time - this Ebb N Gro style system is so foreign to me, too -- but I think I'll like it.

Peace, love and take care everyone ~ X
