Who Let The Dogs Out? Chem Comparison Grow!

Happy days, everyone,

Here are my two chems. It is DAY 16 since germination. They got upsized to 3-gallon fabric pots a couple of days ago. Older leaves on the chem 91 not looking good, and also getting some slight variegation on new leaves. I suspect still not enough cal/mag, so will be increasing that again.

Hope everyone's grows are going well!

Way to go Bard. Bard, when you transplanted to 3 gals, did you put the stem deeper in the soil? What are you using for a medium? So, far I have 5 plants. I think they are stretching to much. The tem runs 81. The lights are 15 in. away for plant.

So, far, there is a slight shade of yellow on cotyledons, I don't think there is anything to worry about at this time. Although, I did let the seed dry out with the tap root at the beginning of it's life. They are 8 days old and I see no root growth in solo cup yet. Time will tell. News about Chem. My seeds are not coming any time soon. It will not be until the end of Sept. before I know anything about buying the old Chem. seeds.:smokin2:

Your two plants look just fine to me. I do not see any signs of cal-mag deficiency from what I can see in your photos. Variegation is not something I worry about. As always, that is just my personal opinion. See what PW thinks.

Thanks everyone,

Yes, the pics I posted make it hard to see the problem I was mentioning. It is definitely not serious at this point, and I want to keep it that way! :)

"Variegation" was a poor choice of words, as it suggests a nature colour difference in the leaves. Perhaps a better word would be "mottled," as in some small patches are a lighter green than others. If the problem persists, or gets worse (boo), I will try to get a better pic.

Thanks again, @beez0404 and @ChefDGreen for the nice reassurance.

Hey Bean!

Thanks for the nice comments. In my last grow, the little seedlings were quite leggy and stretched out, and so when I did the transplant, I did bury them a bit deeper, with the stem in the medium (I am using coco). I didn't have that problem this time around. The stems were fairly short, and quite strong. I attribute this progress to:

1) my lights are better quality this time versus last (QBs versus cheap purple LEDs), and a bit closer (about 24").
2) I had an oscillating fan moving air around quite a bit, from even before then germinated. Not blowing directly on them, but enough that the stem jiggled a bit every few seconds. I think that this helps strengthen the stem, and made them less stretched out.

Bean, nice that you have sprouts above ground!! To me, they also look a little leggy. You mentioned that the light is 15" above, which should be plenty close. What kind of light is it? Do they have any air movement around them? 81F should be ok, a bit warm when they get a little older, but as small seedlings I think that should be fine. Do you know what your humidity is? I've been targeting 75F with RH at 65%.

Bummer about the delay on your chem seeds. You can't catch a chem-break these days. Hoping that they show up sooner rather than later.

Hope that this helps a bit. I'm sure others will add some further advice.

Bard, I am using 8, 4 feet T5 replacement. The only thing that, I remember is 6500 K. Full color spectrum LED's. And, they are on there last legs. Time to upgrade. I have two fan's running, My Hum. says that it's 35% but that is wrong. Because it stay at 35 all the time.
No, doesn't seem like I'm getting any breaks. Mice and I found out what went wrong with the 1st run or should I say 2nd run. Bad water. My water well is out. So, Joe got water across the street at a crop watering system. One of those ones that extend more than two foot ball fields and spray all over the place. He told me there wasn't any fertilizer in the water. That is the only thing, I can think of that burn those seedling up like that. Now, we go to a friends house and fill up tanks of well water. Hopefully, I'll have better luck in flowering.
I've got 2 Happy Frogs (Frog) and 3 Fox Farm Ocean Frost (Fox) growing.:bong::surf:

Lots of tough breaks. :(

Hopefully things improve with the new water source. Well water can sometimes have a lot of minerals in it. Not necessarily a bad thing, but can throw off your nutrient dosing if you aren't sure what you are starting with.

On the stretched out plants, the only thing I can think of is that they aren't getting enough light. Your light distance sounds plenty close, so it might be that the lights aren't putting out enough. Hopefully some more experienced growers can add some addition opinions to help out?

Might also be worth taking a look at a hygrometer to keep an eye on humidity. They are pretty inexpensive, and worth having, I think.

Anyhow, here's hoping that things start going your way soon!

I was told that there was Ca in the water, come from a nice clean spring. I been meaning to get the water tested. There is so much to learn. Thank you, guys for helping me climb the ladder. There is a ?. I'm growing in FFOF, this soil has a balance of nutrient in them, I take it. When, do, I start feeding my MC feeding scheme? My notes say 1g to gal. to start. I got to go look at these babies again, about this yellowing.

Today is Sunday right? I hadn't done an update on my Chem 91 X Aliendog Cherry clone in over a week so though I would get one done today as I'm stuck inside due to rain. In one of the photos I have a picture of a Chem 91 clone the size of the bigger girl right before I up-potted her. This should give you an idea of how much she's grown since I up-potted her. She is growing nicely albeit a bit slowly and that is on purpose. I need to hold off up-potting her from her current .6 gallon pot into a 2 gallon pot because once I do she'll take off and I don't have a place for her yet if she gets too big. Anyway, here are a few photos of her taken today.

I grew a handful of plants in FFOF and did not feed my plants anything until probably the second week of flowering. The FFOF has a good bit of nutrients built in, more then enough for vegging. Well, I guess unless you're vegging for a very long time. I think you'll find Bean that less is more when growing cannabis plants especially at the seedling stage. They don't like to be fed much in the way of nutrients and prefer their soil moist but not wet. And be sure there is excellent drainage in the bottom of the cups/pots they're in for drainage.

@Bean 7175 Beez is a really talented, experienced grower. Knows way more than me about soil (and most other things). I think he will give you great advice!

Thank you Bard. I have hope. Happy gardening.:yummy:

I think so to beez. I'm watching them like a hawk. It's the waiting game. Have a good day.:smokin2:

Pretty pictures beez. I have clone a few grows back. You cloning making me think if I should clone or not. Much to think about.

Today was up-pot day for my Black Cherry Punch plant. I've been trying to slow down her growing as I won't have anywhere in which to flower her for about 4 weeks. Looking at her today I could tell she was in need of a bigger pot. So I moved her up from a 1/2 gallon pot up to a 2 gallon pot. Her next up-potting she should hopefully look just like this with a bountiful, healthy root system. She is loving my homemade organic soil. Her final home will be a 4 gallon pot.

She looks super healthy! Might need a 7 gal pot by the time you can flower her out!

Seriously that is an insane root ball! She’s gonna explode in her next pot.

Hey everyone! I just wanted to post a quick update so you guys can see how things are coming along. Everybody is stretching really good now and starting to put out button tops. I did a little defoliation in hopes that the lower down tops will come up near canopy height.
I hung my other LED panel which is 203w actual.. putting my grand total of power draw at 445w. My tent is ~7 sqft so adding that extra panel puts my watts/sqft just over 60. With my portable AC I’m still able to maintain ~77F daytime temps. Hopefully I can get close to 1g/w. Here’s a photo

Also, last night all 3 Cookies n Chem girls got their first dynagro feed. This morning everybody looks nice and happy without any burn or deficiencies so that’s a big breath of relief for me.

Hope everyone is having an excellent Friday!

Wow, that is a chit ton of button buds! Looks like a darn nice even canopy. Should fill a lot of jars for you!

Thanks Beez! That even canopy was not an easy task.. every plant in there is on stilts except for the big tall girl in the back right.. now when I have to do maintenance on one plant I almost always have to take out every plant.. This is gonna be a laborious flower cycle.. good thing I’m happy to do it! And I hope you’re right about that lot-o jars! I’ll be happy with like 10 oz, but in my head I’m dreaming of a full pound:D

More and more I'm considering just dropping 4 fem seeds of the same strain, vegging them to a good size, and flowering them together. Provided they all grow similarly it should make a grow such as that a bit easier.

I am bound and determined to learn how to set up and run a scrog grow in my little 2' x 2' breeding tent. Veg long enough to fill the net entirely then flip it right into flowering.
