WheelO's - 360#2 - Auto Collection galore

I only dip the bottom 1/4" of the cube, as it turns the water rotates throughout the cube from gravity, and as the water migrates around the cube, it would actually pull fresh air into the cube. Dontcha think? Basic siphon principle? Reverse wicking action? I have no adverse reactions so far... fingers crossed.

I think the siphon principle may come into play here, though I bet even even the makers of the rockwool would not know that answer to this question.

Cheers,
Maxx

perhaps, i would have to see some evidence.
I will do an experiment and let you guys know.
I will put an empty one in when i start her rotating. when it gets to the top i will take it out and keep it the same orientation. i will slice it in half with an electric knife and weigh both sides on my digital scale. if the bottom side is heavier than the top, then I would consider the flood theory a success.

i didnt quite follow you cmx,

capillary action is due to an effect of surface tension. Surface tension pulls a liquid up until there is a sufficient mass of liquid for gravitational forces to overcome the intermolecular forces. So if the properties of the rockwool allow enough wicking to pull water all the way to the top, gravity will no longer have an effect. the water will be held evenly though the block due to surface tension.

So, what we need to find out is if the wockwools wicking capability is greater than 3".
I have a feeling it is.

if you only water it and then let it dry some, when it's drying it should pull air in via the siphon effect mentioned earlier. this should get more oxygen to the roots. . . i think.

I'm not sure about this, it is just how i reasoned it out in my head.

Your head seems to be working just fine lol (I peeked ahead in the book).

+REPs.

[EDIT: "You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to WheeloFortune again."]

When mixing your own loose RW you can vary the ratio of water-holding to water-draining (forget the term). Guess you can't do that with the cubes.

But it smells like someone puked on a dead skunk.

Classic!

Wheel I like the nutridip meters it's to bad that with the number of tanks I do per day I have to have handhelds for now. I am looking at a 16 channel unit I found surplus but finding the probe's has been hard. Rockwool this is a tought one I have found that one soak would take 4hours before I could soak it again thats using an ebb&flow.:grinjoint:
I don't know if that helps at all.;)

I had bought 2 tri meter setups, one for each res (when I was doing aero), but the additional wires were too much for me. I hate wires, lines, ropes, hoses, and anything that trips, tangles, or otherwise complicates life. I like the handhelds if a quality unit was obtained. I tried the cheap ones, and you get what you pay for, but if you're on a budget, start basic, work your way up. Ph is so very important in hydro.

thanks guys,

Tor,
nice try anyways on the rep, its the thought that counts. been a while since you visited. nice to hear from you.

Thanks pan,
so 4 hours? what size cube, and how long of a flood. In my system you are forced to have a 5-8 minute "dip" due to the rotation speed. so i do 1 1/2 hours water to get two full rotations per watering. so 10-15 minutes of touching the water. I am gonna try one feed/day and see how it goes. . . i couldn't imagine trying to keep track of so many res's. . . i guess thats why your the man.

CMX,
yeah, I am so excited, this is my first expensive meter, and yes i realized you get what you pay for. my tds meter isnt so bad, but the ph meter has something funky going on. note: when you spend 3-4 grand on equipment, a good meter should be on the top of the list. . . i didn't want to buy one because i am still planning on getting an intellidose. . . but i just don't have the cash right now, so i needed a good meter for this run.

i still need an RO machine and a dehimidifier.

Wheel I was running 1/2 hour on 4 off on 2" cubes. You will be fine remember you have more of the cube exposed to air. It will get way simple as more of my ebb&flow plants are done.:bong:

my sister just called me to let me know i got a small package. . .

SEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEDS!

woo hoo!

i will update later tonight, after i go golfing.

ahh nice where did you order your seeds from? i just got mine on monday from attitude...only took 6 days very fast

So, I'm a little dissapointed with dope seeds dot com.

I ordered:

1 package of ten Auto Hindu Kush
1 package of ten Bluberry Kush and
2 packages of five of Automatic Lemon Skunk Feminized

These genetics were very carefully chosen because it is very important to me that they are very short. All three of these strains are very short.

however, what i got seems to be:

1 package of ten Auto Hindu Kush
1 package of ten Auto AK47 x Auto Blueberry (too tall)
1 package of ten Auto AK47 x Automatic Lemon Skunk (too tall and NOT FEMINIZED!)

freebie package of 5 shortstuff#1 from short stuff seed bank. me likey. but i am still upset.

thanks oneman,

I have used dope seeds 4 times, and this was the first mistake. . . if they correct it, i will stay loyal. if not, i will change.

It will work out great if they resend me the seeds they messed up, I'll get a bunch of free seeds.

4' T8 flouro i had sitting in my closet. I can move it down a couple more inches, and I want to put another one on the bottom.

eventually i would like to get some leds to supplement from the side.
