Weenmeoff's Inside Soil Alien Abduction Grow Journal

No problems changing the schedule from 12-6 to 9-9.

I don't really have much thoughts on the 12/12 vs. 11/13 except that personally, I've always used 12/12 in flower (even when using the GLR in veg!) and, theoretically, the more light the better, so I would never argue with or fault anyone for using 11/13. I don't know if that helps at all, though! :)

EDIT: I'm assuming we're both really talking about 13/11 with 13 hours of light and 11 hours of dark! I believe you should list the number of hours of light first.

No with my clones I did 11/13, someone suggested this would get them to show sex faster. Maybe this is why they are not that impressive, besides being flipped from 2 week old clones.

I may go for tried and true 12/12. Anyone else want to comment on 12/12 vs 11/13?

:hmmmm: Any chance they were listing dark and light backwards and really meant 13 hours of light? The additional hour of light, I would think, should cause them to develop quicker so they would show sex quicker. Not sure how less light would do that? Maybe a more drastic change???

I'll take a stab at answers:

Leaving them in the solo cups is good, better than slowing them down a few days by transplantng

Dome on / dome off doesn't matter. They look happy with dome on.

Considering they are already under a dome, with restricted airflow, you should be fine for ventilation during the dark period.

Sexing them may take longer than a week. From your earlier pictures, the branches are in symetrical pairs. I use alternate branching and preflowers as signs of sexual maturity, and the clones aren't quite there yet.

If you go 11 on / 13 off you are sending a stronger signal to start flowering than 12 on / 12 off.

11/13 always seems to induce flowering faster. I'm a big fan of 11 on / 13 off during flower.

It was radogast and he was specific on the time and Canadian Joe said he is a fan of 11/13.

Change of plans for #3, I notice on the nutes schedule there is a pre harvest solution of cal mag and a a bunch of sugar daddy. I did that for all 3 plants and will do a nice flush in 3-4 days. Then I will put all 3 in the dark box and chop together unless any of them need more time.

One think I've noticed is a lack of frostiness on the leaves, wondering if that will happen in the next week.

Then I will flip the George's and put the seedlings and clones in the dog cage.

I also fed the George's with a mix of veg and bloom which are pretty close except for the bloom, did 1/2 bloom 1/2 grow.

Rock on!

This is my best developed budding clone. 71 days since flip.

I started with bag seed from a friend. He gave me about 12 alien abduction and 30 of Kush in different bags. I planted all AA but am pretty sure one is different from the other two because it's turning purple late on flower while the other two are not, they're leaves are turning yellow.

Im flipping the George's tomorrow at 9 am. The seedlings and clones are now together in the AC box with 4 23w cfls, this is temporary, maybe a week. Once the budding clones are done the seedlings and new clones will go on the dog cage under 1 mars hydro led 96 and supplement with cfls. In less than a month I am building a grow shed!

Looks great, WMO! :goodjob:

How do you transplant from those molded coco bowls? Don't the roots grow into the fibers of the container? Do you transplant the entire container? :hmmmm:

I was thinking transplant the whole container right into its next home but better confirm that with someone.

Edit, I found this, "Coco-coir comes from the inner shell of a coconut. The fibrous material supplies organic matter to seedling soils, and it's also compressed into biodegradable pots. Coir pots don't require removal before you transplant because the coir breaks down naturally in the soil, which minimizes root disturbance at planting."

I need help again. I let my scrogs get out of control, growth is anywhere from 6-8 inches above the screen. I got one under control but the other 2 are much worse (better growth, out of control!) I spent about 1/2 hour tucking and weaving and made little to no progress, I'm not sure where everything should go. It seems like it was better before I started moving things.

I'm guessing I need to suck it up and go spend an hour or two getting the canopy level, correct?

Stupid ideas I was having includ leaving them as is and taking the damn SCROG off all together.

Suck it up right...?

Thanks!

It looks like the container, as-is, would be pretty hydrophobic. I think , if you were going to plant that whole container, you'd need to soak it for quite some time. I've never used those, so can't really be of help, but, I'd check with someone who has used them to make sure you don't need to transplant to another container before the roots get too tangled with a container you (possibly) can't transplant. ;)

For the SCROG, just keep tucking everything you can under and spreading it out...the buds will find there way back to the top. If you need to, you can tie the larger ones you can't bend down to the screen, or you can even top them, as long as you're not going to flip to flower in the next week or two. SCROG does take a good amount of work/maintenance to keep an even canopy.

FYI...they appear to be coco fiber pot liners. Usually, I've seen them used for hanging baskets. I think, if you soak the pot real good and plant, the roots will grow through it and the pot will end up bio-degrading after a few months. I've just never seen them used like that for MMJ (I have seen in some hydroponic applications) and want to make sure you don't end up root-bound or with roots entangled in a pot you can transplant.

Great job Ween:thumb: not sure about the pots.

Thanks Dirt! :passitleft:

Not sure where I got the idea to use them from. I watered a couple days ago by pouring the water in a saucer and they soaked it up. I'll soak em real good before putting them in their next home.

If anyone has experience with coco fiber pots, let me know if it'll be ok or if I should remove the pots and transplant.

Countdown to flip!

And they're off! Flipped em at 9am. I had the switches set the wrong way (I followed directions, down for on, I guess I'm just not that bright, ha!) glad I was standing right there, quickly unplugged it and set it the "right way." Switched to HPS and flipped the LED to bloom.

Stupid question, should the LED (Mars Hydro) be set to bloom and grow or just bloom? I'm thinking just bloom but want to be sure.

Bring on the flowers!

Rock on!

For flowering, BOTH Bloom AND Grow should be ON.

Dag nab it! I guess I should have asked when I put my clones in bloom only, DOH! At least I'll have it right for the big plants. Thanks Krip!

I'm guessing the explains the less than stellar growth.....

Yup, that might do it! I was going to ask what kind of lights you were using and am glad I didn't cuz' if you had told me Mars, I would have been concerned. I just switched to a Reflector 144. I've only been using it the last few weeks, but it seems to be doing the job great. I'm growing some of the densest buds I've ever grown, and while I can't attribute it all to the Mars, it certainly can't be hurting! ;)
